About John Stoltzfus

Ruthie was born in the village of Intercourse. Her parents were brought up in the Amish church but left the Amish church when she was two years old and joined a Mennonite church. She has four siblings. John was also brought up in a Amish family of nine children, his dad was a farmer on a dairy farm. John left the Amish church at age 21 and joined the same Mennonite church that Ruthie attended. We now attend Keystone Evangelical Free Church. We have two children and five beautiful grandchildren.

John Stoltzfus purchased this cottage in 2006

Why John Stoltzfus chose Intercourse

We bought this property to provide our guests with a clean, cozy 'home away from home' that they can come to relax and be refreshed from all the busyness of life. You can sit on the porch and enjoy the garden and listen to the Amish buggies go by.

What makes this cottage unique

Lancaster County is a unique area to take sight seeing drives in the surrounding country side and see the Amish farmers working their fields. Within walking distance are approx. 50 shops. There are a number of Amish stores to visit, gift shops on Amish farms and buggy rides. There are a number of covered bridges that make beautiful pictures.John does some private tours in your vehicle to Amish farms. We also have a self guided tour available.

A cozy and quaint cottage

  • 5 of 5

My mother, sister-in-law and I stayed here for two nights this past December as part of a Christmas gift girl's getaway weekend. We absolutely loved the cottage and the surrounding areas. John and Ruth were on their way out on vacation when we arrived, but John still took the time to stop by and meet us. He went over the basics with us as well. He gave us a little history of the area and a review of some local restaurants. The cottage was very clean and had everything we needed. The beds and pillows were comfortable as well as the sofa. The locally made bread and jam was a nice touch, as well as the boxes of cereal and milk, coffee, etc. The guest house was right next door, but we wouldn't have even known anyone was staying there if we didn't see their truck parked in the driveway. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for an affordable and cozy place to stay. We can't wait to return. Although next time I think we will come in warmer weather.

Great stay in Amish country!

  • 5 of 5

John met us when we checked in and gave us lots of tips for the area! The place is well located in Intercourse within walking distance to Kitchen Kettle Village. Well decorated and spacious enough for our family of five for a couple of nights! Breakfast cereals, bread, coffee, tea, and milk were provided. We loved sitting out on the porch after a day of sight seeing. Thanks for the great stay!

Perfect weekend retreat!

  • 5 of 5

My family, including 2 teen daughters, had the BEST time in the Amish Guest House Cottage! The cottage was absolutely perfect: clean, open, light, and comfortable and had everything including delicious bread and jam, and milk in the fridge for coffee and cereal. It is centrally located in the little town, and we sat for hours on the front porch rocking on the porch swing and the rocking stand, watching and listening to the clip-clop of the buggies passing by on 3 sides ! So peaceful, even our teens enjoyed themselves! We loved visiting the farms and talking to the people, and the food was amazing! John was a gracious host, thank you!

We are located in the heart of the Amish people and you will see and hear their horse and buggy's as they come into town to do business at the stores and use one of the three banks.

The Cottage is within easy walking distance of approx. 50 shops including Kitchen Kettle where you can take buggy rides to Amish farms.

Our desire is to make the Cottage a 'home away from home' where you can come to relax.
