About Bob Branscum

I was born in Walla Walla and my wife also grew up in Walla Walla. We both went through the local schools graduating from Wa-Hi. We returned to Walla Walla 32 years ago to enjoy our families and this special community. I am a retired banker and she is a retired nurse.

Bob Branscum purchased this chateau / country house in 2003

Why Bob Branscum chose South Central

This site is a prime Southside Walla Walla location on a bluff of pure loam created by the Great Montana Flood. It is close to several wineries, ten minutes from downtown Walla Walla and has great views of the Walla Walla Valley. Not visible from the street entrance, it is secluded. There are a great many varieties of birds to watch and the occasional deer or wild turkeys passing though and our neighbors zeebu. Some of Walla Walla's history is also in the building with the doors coming from an old bank building in downtown Walla Walla and the wine counter from the Whitehouse Crawford Planning Mill.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

There is an outside fire pit that is just far enough out of town that the city light does not interfere with star and satellite watching. And in season there are shooting stars to watch. There is also a road around the property that a guest can walk to get exercise and stay within the property confines. A large deck on the back of the building over looks the amphitheater and provides for great sunset and bird watching. Each bedroom has its own bathroom.

Beautiful place to stay with extended family!

  • 5 of 5

Had a fabulous weekend at Solo Rosso! Rooms were spacious, comfortable and clean and each came with it's own bathroom. Great kitchen (well stocked) and gas grill outside for steaks and salmon! Was definitely worth the price. Bob was a great host and made us feel very welcome. Will definitely stay again.

Great Location, Great Facilities, Great Owner!

  • 5 of 5

We just got home from our Walla Walla trip and had an amazing time, in large part to Bob and Sole Rosso! Upon arriving Bob was very helpful and invited us downstairs to share a glass of wine, give us the lay of the land and tour the property. The house worked out just perfect, location could not have been better. Rooms were all very large and comfortable, each with its own bathroom was a plus. I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Walla Walla. We traveled with a 2 year old and 3 month old, the house worked out great for everyone from the kids to adults. Outside of the facilities Bob was more than generous as a host, the kitchen/bathrooms and bedrooms were fully stocked and the house was very clean.

Great home-base for anyone planning a Walla Walla trip.

Thanks again, Bob!

If you like animals do not stay here

  • 1 of 5

Home was as described...nothing more, nothing less. The disturbing part of our stay was Maggie the "Vine Yard" dog, she is a sweet mix of some sort that is very friendly and loves to be pet. While eating dinner on the patio one night she came over to the table; myself and friends noticed she has hair falling out, constantly would sit down dig at her belly, is completely mal-nourished to the point her ribs are very much visible, and her teeth are worn so much that the roots are visible to the naked eye. The situation is bad enough that myself and friends lost appetite for the steaks and salmon we prepared and instead fed the remainder of our dinner to Maggie.

While eating dinner Bob (the owner) came out to ask how our stay was going, we explained our concern for Maggie, that she needed serious attention quickly; we were told that Bob's son lives on the property an that Maggie is his, Bob explained that his son has had "some issues" and doesn't take care of her, Bob stated that he feeds her when he can.

My friends and I are all dog lovers, we decided at dinner that Maggie could home with us, taken to our local vet to start rehabilitation then placed with a family, we explained this to Bob and offered to pay for her; his response was "I will talk with my son". We were also told she is often picked up on the highway directly behind the property. For the following two days of our stay we did not see Maggie again, we feel she was kept away because of our concern.

If you are an animal lover I would not recommend staying at this property.

Owner's Response: I would not recommend these travelers. They left the kitchen a mess. They claimed Maggie (not my dog) had mange and was not being taken care of properly according to them. She is and has been fed daily. She is 10 years old and has a skin condition caused by food alergies. She has had food alergy problems in the past and her food is then changed until it causes problems. The local Animal Control officer visited and said she did not have mange, and was alert and moved well for her age. She was taken to a local vet for a Senior Check. She does not have mange and has a food alergy, with a recommendation made for a change in her diet again. The vet said her teeth are fine for her age. Again, these people are not welcome to come back.

Great layout, location - close to the wineries

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this home because of it's layout - 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Perfect for three couples! We were celebrating my dad's 70th birthday and it was the perfect getaway for six adults looking to hang out together but have total privacy when you need it. The bedrooms and bathrooms are situated together so you can close the door to your bedroom and it's like a private hotel room. Quiet, peaceful and included the advertised amenities. Bob was a great host and made sure we had everything we needed, and even helped us with finding a great dinner spot. I would recommend this place for people looking to get out of town and explore wineries. In addition to Sole Rosso's wines, we were really close to several other wineries on the south side of town. I'd definitely stay there again.

Perfect base of operations

  • 5 of 5

Sole Rosso was a perfect spot to stay. It's minutes away from the Southern Walla Walla wine region and 10 minutes from down town. Three cuples were comfortable and had ample room to lounge in the evenings. Bob the property owner was a great host our first night there and welcomed us with several tastings of his wine.

Nice house good location friendly owner

  • 4 of 5

Enjoyed our stay. The house is close to many wineries that are South of Walla Walla. Easy drive into town. The bedrooms were adequate and the grounds were very nice. Enjoyed having wine in the afternoon with Bob (the owner).
