The home was so comfortable and had everything we needed!!! The bed was so comfortable!

We loved our stay in this renovated shotgun! What a perfect place for our honeymoon! Susan has made sure everything you might need is available. The king-size bed was amazing, so comfortable. We were close to everything and really enjoyed all the books about New Orleans that were available in the house. It was cold the entire time we were there, and my husband said he wished he had brought slippers as the floor was cold!! The temperature was not typical for NOLA for sure!! We will definitely recommend this awesome house to our family and friends! What a great first experience with a VRBO! Just wish it had been warmer so we could enjoy the beautiful back yard!! Thank you, Susan!! Your house is awesome!

Adorable home for a wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time to visit New Orleans and this beautiful home made us feel welcome from the moment we got there. It is in an area that is seeing a lot of revitalization and is close to a lot of cute restaurants and shops. Unfortunately, we were there for New Years' weekend, when it was quite cold, and while we were able to easily find parking in front of the house (and across the street) we ended up driving to most of the places we went. But you could easily walk to all the cool attractions! The neighborhood was very quiet, even on NYE, which surprised me.The bed is very comfortable, the kitchen had everything we needed, and the decor and detail is what I wanted to see in a New Orleans shotgun. I love the half-bath floor! Don't pass up a chance to stay here!

Cozy, Practical Home

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. The Good: Owner was very proactive and helpful. Responded almost immediately to some things we couldnt find (they were there, we just hadn't looked hard enough). The location was excellent, quiet but easy to find the areas we wanted to see. We loved that we could park our car right in front of the house and walk, bus or take a streetcar. Very close to Magazine street which has everything - shopping, restaurants, etc. Kitchen very well equipped which allowed us to prepare meals when we didn't feel like going out. The King bed was very comfy. The Bad: none. We were there before Christmas and there was a cold front that swept through the area, so the back bathroom which has no heating was freezing but we liked the other bathroom in the middle of the house better anyway.

Lovely property

  • 5 of 5

We had always wanted to experience staying in a traditional shotgun home: This was perfect for us. In a great location, close to Magazine Street, this home was meticulous and thoughtfully outfitted. There was coffee, spices et. al including lovely linens, towels and soap. We felt very welcome and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We would recommend this property to anyone who is looking for an easy walk to restaurants and who is also looking for a lovely home away.

I fell in love with this restored shotgun house that has been put together with TLC. Every room was a treat to be in even the bathrooms. The ceiling fans in each room were used and assisted in making the rooms comfortable in the stifling heat even though there is an excellent central air conditioning. I loved the wide plank wooden floors and the tile in the back bathroom. The little beautiful backyard was a real treasure too. It is 5 miles from the French Quarter. I loved my walks in the Garden District neighborhood and visiting the funky shops on Magazine Street. A few more blocks up was the delightful St Charles Avenue. It was quiet. I highly recommend staying at this little jewel.

Better than the French Quarters

  • 5 of 5

This was the most relaxing and entertaining vacation I have had in a long while. This place is close to some of the greatest places to eat (without lines you have to wait in), like the Red Dog Café (amazing breakfasts), Rum House (amazing drinks), Frankie & Johnnies (crawfish). Be sure and check out the Black information book in the house - lots of great suggestions for dining, etc. The fact that we got to park literally a few steps from the front door was amazing and it was free, saved us tons of parking fees if we stayed somewhere else. AND the bed was amazing - so comfortable and it was so quiet! There is a step stool for those of us that are vertically challenged, because the bed is quite high. There are 2 bathrooms - a washer and drier and the backyard was amazing too. I can't say enough good things about this place. We decided to spend our entire time in the Garden District because of all the cute shops and fantastic Dining. THANK you Susan for an amazing place to stay!!

About Susan Gurley

We are mid westerners who fell in love with New Orleans. Of course it doesn't hurt that our daughter and family live a few blocks away. She told us we must buy this house, and we did! Everything has been replaced or restored, from the piers, to the siding, insulation and wiring, those things no one can see but that make the house very comfortable. We had a blast decorating the interior, and hope you like the artwork and our small but significant and growing library of books on the area's history.

Susan Gurley purchased this house in 2013

Why Susan Gurley chose East Riverside

We wanted a comfortable home close to our family. This shotgun double is perfect for us. There is a long-term tenant next door. Our 900 square foot side is spacious enough to stretch out in, yet small enough to be manageable.
