Overview

About the property

Perfect Wooded Retreat Backing To Parkland, Creek And A Nature Trail.

Smoke Rise is located in the Sequoyah Village area of Laurel Valley.

From the moment you pull into the drive, you'll know you've come to a special place. Once inside, you'll notice that everything is just a cut above what you expected. From the leather furniture and primitive decor to the high thread-count linens and luxurious towels, and right down to all the little things you'll find that will make this experience one you'll always remember.

It is our goal to create a tranquil and serene setting that will help our guests unplug and enjoy the spirit of the mountains and the wildlife that lives here. Don't worry...we have provided you with cable TV, CD player, telephone and Wi-Fi just in case you can't totally give up the gadgets.

The cabin is decorated in a primitive theme to match the beautiful interior of hand hewn logs. Nothing says mountain cabin, like a warm evening by a crackling fire; so, when in season, enjoy the warmth and sounds of a real wood burning stacked stone fireplace.

The kitchen has all the comforts of home with everything you might need to cook full meals, or nuke a burger.

If you love to grill out, we have furnished you with a gas grill to handle those steaks you'll find at the local IGA!

The huge indoor jetted tub will pamper you before slipping into the King Size bed for a great night's sleep. Luxury linens and towels, pillows, and blankets are all supplied. There is a washer and dryer and a walk-in closet to stow away the suitcases and extra STUFF you may have brought along.

Smoke Rise backs to Park land; and if you walk down to the creek behind the cabin, you will enjoy the stream and the nature walk that follows the stream. Moss covered rocks line the stream side and make for wonderful photos, especially after a hard rain!

Smoke Rise is VERY motorcycle friendly. The access is easy and paved. There is plenty of flat driveway parking. If you are a rider, you'll find Townsend to be a Paradise! Every year thousands visit this area to take advantage of these mountains and the day trips they offer and Smoke Rise offers a terrific location to take advantage of these trips. We built a small bike shed on the property and you just might get a glimpse of us getting our own bikes if the weather is right and we have time for a ride.

From Smoke Rise you are only a few short miles from the Cades Cove entrance to the National Park. While staying here, the Park is your play ground.

No matter what you like to do during the day, we hope you will enjoy retreating to the peace and warmth of the cabin at day's end.

It is our hope that you will come to consider Smoke Rise YOUR home away in the Great Smoky Mountains!

We hope to see you soon.

About Cyndie Cornelius

We arrived in the Smokies over eight years ago. Our first trip was a fly fishing adventure. Until then, my only Smokies adventure had been to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.

Townsend proved to be an oasis in the mountains. The setting is serene and peaceful and without the trappings of the more recognized areas. Trout were not the only things hooked that weekend... we were as well. Just one year later, we arrived in Townsend to live full time. It took a year to make it happen, but we were determined to make the Smokies our home.

We surely can not imagine living anywhere else. Waking every morning to the sunrise over the mountains, and the sights and sounds of the birds and other wild life living in the area, is an unbelievable experience.

We have in the years since our arrival, started a Real Estate Sales Firm appropriately named, Why the Smokies.

It has been our objective to educate others about the wonders of living here in this beautiful place and if the fit is right, to help them with their goal to move here on a permanent basis, or to find their perfect getaway home here in the Smokies. Since that time, we have purchased two additional cabins and have made the same commitment to our guests that we have strived to provide to those who have visited Smoke Rise.

If Smoke Rise is NOT available for the dates you are interested in, check out The Cove and Wildwood. All our cabins are available through VRBO.

Cyndie Cornelius purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Cyndie Cornelius chose East

As you would expect, my career takes me in and out of hundreds of cabins, both for sale and for rent.

We knew that if we ever purchased a cabin, we would likely handle the rental ourselves, so we wanted something close by. We also knew we wanted a cabin that we could decorate in a way that would lend itself to what we like and enjoy. The hewn log interior was warm and the stacked stone REAL wood burning fireplace was exactly what we enjoy.

Next the location backs to Park land. During visits there, we have seen every critter we go to Cades Cove to see!

It is a park-like, wooded, private setting with a creek that runs through it...that was perfect for us.

The last requirement was that it had flat paved access and space to park a motorcycle hauler if needed. We ride, and know that finding appropriate accommodations for your bikes can be difficult. This is a breeze. We keep our own bikes in a small shed on the property as well.

It needed some TLC but had great bones. It was a natural for us to choose. In mid November we purchased it, and set about making our vision of a perfect get away come true.

What makes this cabin unique

It is our mission to maintain our cabins in a manner that will never disappoint. We are VERY local owners and we keep a watchful eye over our retreats. We have stayed in them a number of times ourselves, just to be sure we have not forgotten anything that guests may need to make their stay perfect.

We want you to consider 'Smoke Rise' or 'The Cove' .... your home away from home in the Great Smoky Mountains!!

Web pics were enticing, being at the cabin was even better, WOW!

This home was picture perfect, what a great place to vacation, rest, relax, & recharge. Easy to find, yet off the beaten path enough to be secluded. Close to all the sights we could find, super scenic drives (Foothills Parkway, Cherahola Parkway, Blue Ridge Parkway, DragonTail) shopping, hikes, waterfalls, wildlife, Townsend, Cade's Cove, Gatlinburg, Pigeons Forge, & Maryville; so much to see & do that you must make choices.

The cabin itself had everything we could think of, plenty of cook & serving ware, terrific lighting, parking, bath & jacuzzi; (lots of towels, thanks!), plenty of places to sit back & relax (sofa/chair, deck chairs & table, kitchen table & chairs, did I mention the jacuzzi?), laundry w/iron & board, & a comfortable king bed to finally call it a day; a well thought out and very usable place to stay.

If you are asking would we come back, without a moment's hesitation, YES! Now we just need to get the time...this was a summer trip, next time we want to try the fall, we bet it is even more beautiful.

A big thank you for Cyndie & Warren for providing a perfect place to call home if even for only a week.

Awesome. Very clean. Very peaceful and secluded. It was comfortable and felt like home away from home. Very homey. The wifi always worked well even outside on the deck. Also enjoyed sitting on the deck and listening to the birds. Will definitely stay there again!

Cozy, clean, and charming.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent 3 nights here and loved it. The location is perfect for exploring the smoky mountains and the local caverns. Being on a very strict diet this place had it all when it comes to utensils for cooking. Clean, quite, and secluded. Would most definitely return again.

Great little getaway cabin

  • 5 of 5

This is a nice, small cabin una quiet area of Townsend. Although it is in a development, the location seems isolated. It is in a convenient area that is close to the National Park and just a short 10 minute drive to Pigeon Forge via Weres Valley road. We really want to stay here again.

Townsend Tennessee is a gateway community to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Visitors to Townsend enjoy the Peaceful Side of the Smokies.

Townsend is rich in wildlife. Most visitors come with hopes of seeing the ever popular Black Bear that inhabit the park and surrounding areas.

Smoke Rise is nestled into the woods and private. If you walk down the hill behind the cabin you will find a wonderful creek, moss covered rocks, and a nature path that follows the stream. Here too, you can anticipate the possibility of a critter sighting. There is an abundance of wildlife including Black Bear, Deer, Wild Turkey, Hawks and Owls to name a few. Our property backs to parkland and the results are an abundance of surprises.

You can spend your days critter watching at the cabin or in Cades Cove. You can hike the trails, ride your bike, take photos, fly fish or tube down the Little River. There are a number of tubing providers on the river. Most outfitters will hook you up with a tube and river access. You can float down the river for an hour or so. They will pick you and your tube up and take you back to the starting point, only to do it all again. WOW! what a way to cool off in the hot summer days.

If you ride a motorcycle you will find that Townsend is the BOMB!

There are dozens of day rides from Townsend.

One of our favorites is to leave Townsend through the Park and ride to Gatlinburg. Take a right at Sugarland's Visitors Center and you can ride to Cherokee N.C. Enjoy lunch and head back...time to burn. Don't forget to stop at Newfound Gap and Clingman's Dome and DON'T leave without your camera.

The Foothills Parkway is closer to home. Only a couple of miles from Townsend, this ride takes you across the ridge of the mountain with spectacular overlooks to Chilhowee Lake. From the end of the Parkway, you can take a left and ride the Tail of the Dragon! 318 curves in 11 miles. Not for the faint of heart. If you are not up to that ride, take a right at the end of the Parkway and visit the 129 Harley shop.

A longer ride from that location will take you to Tellico Plains and the Tellico Grains bakery. A great place to enjoy a meal before heading back to Townsend or across the Cherohala Skyway! I could spend hours talking about this so just ask when you call....we may go with you!

Our Cabin is Motorcycle Friendly! Easy access and paved all the way!

A short 30 minute ride from Townsend will land you in Pigeon Forge. A great place to visit, but NOT the quiet side by any stretch of the imagination. It is the center for entertainment and shopping in the Smokies. Home to the Tanger outlets, countless entertainment spots, restaurants and the ever popular Dollywood!

Come join us in Townsend! On the Peaceful side of the Smokies.

We will look forward to hearing from you.
