Come and discover Nani Kamani Kai, a blissful hideaway that spans three generations of Hawaiian beachside living. The sound of waves and trade winds will surround you from every room of this spacious second story suite, boasting views of the crystal blue Pacific and soaring peaks of the Ko’olau mountains.
Our home is tucked away at the end of a private cul-de-sac, just a house off the beach, with its own access to the world renowned Kailua Beach. This very large upstairs suite can accommodate 2 – 4 guests via King Bed or Queen Hikie’e (day bed). A full kitchen and dining room offers alternative in-suite dining and complements a bevy of great restaurants and shopping just minutes away in charming Kailua Town.
Once a vacation spot for early Hawaiian Royalty, Kailua beach now plays host to our country’s “first family' for their annual holiday break. The 2.5 mile stretch of white sand accommodates a myriad of watersports from world class windsurfing and kite-sailing, to leisurely paddles on a canoe, kayak or standup paddle board. The absence of rocks and coral, gentle waves, non-existent currents and windward perspective makes Kailua bay one of the safest in the islands.
This gorgeous suite is literally “steps away” from one of the quieter stretches of the beach and makes for a perfect location to take-in all that beachside living has to offer. From long walks to long naps, sunrise to sunset, everyone will find new ways to decompress, relax and recharge.
Corinne and Guy grew up just three blocks away from each other in Kailua yet never met until work brought them together in the early 80's. They were soon married and now have three wonderful children who were born in Hawaii but raised abroad. Work took the family to Australia and Virginia for several years yet their deep Hawaiian roots, family and closest friends beckoned their return to Kailua in 2002. Nani Kamani Kai continues to be their little slice of Heaven on earth.
Corinne Souza purchased this house in 1986
Corinne's Father, well known real estate developer and local artist, Rudy Brilhante, turned this once vacant beachside property into the neighborhood known today as Kamani Kai Place. The guest unit is situated in one of the original homes on what was basically a grove of coconut trees and flowering plants. The home was built in 1935 and belonged to Corinne's dear Granny Denis, it has been in the family for three generations.
Corinne and Guy purchased the home in 1986 and have lovingly renovated the home over time, keeping many of its unique architectural features and original charm.
Kailua is tucked away between one of the most pristine beaches in the world and the majestic Ko'olau mountain range which was formed by ancient volcanoes. Its northeast facing point on the compass is perfect for catching year round cool trade winds and breathtaking sunrises. Sound of the rolling surf is a constant reminder that you are less than 100 yards from the ocean...the former playground of Hawaiian royalty.
Beachside living means long strolls on the beach with a cup of coffee in your hand followed by a full day of every imaginable water sport and activity on one of the safest bays in the islands.
The 'View from our Window' was one of the last paintings that Corinne's father, Rudy was near completing before passing away in 2013. The view from his perch is one of the most endearing features of this property. A picture that is sure to be one of the many souvenirs you will take home with you, and one that will bring you back.
We loved our stay. The place was perfect and Coreen and her family couldn't have been nicer to us. We hope we can go again. Mahalo.
We really enjoyed our time in Kailua. Guy and Corrine were excellent hosts. The location was perfect. The beach access was just a 2 minute walk from our door. The view of the mountains and the ocean was priceless. The apartment was equipped with everything you could need. Thanks for making our holidays in Hawaii so special.
Corinne and Guy are the most gracious hosts. This spacious rental has wonderful views of the beach and mountains in a very nice neighborhood. We were on our first vacation with our infant twins and they loved the soft carpet and toys left out especially for them. The heat was too much for the babies, so Guy installed air conditioning in the bedroom so they could sleep. If you want to avoid crowds or hotels, this is a great option. It felt like staying with family. We loved walking to the beach.
We rented this property for a week in August to bring my daughter to UH. Corinne was there to greet us and give us a quick tour when we arrived. The house has beautiful views of the ocean and mountains. The beach is just a quick walk down a path and it is BEAUTIFUL! The two queen size beds fit four adults comfortably. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and condiments. The house did get hot during the day without A/C but the evening breeze and fans made it fine at night. There were beach chairs, boogie boards, an umbrella and other goodies for us to use at the beach. The house is a short 3 minute drive to main town of Kailua and about 35 minutes to Honolulu. We were glad to be staying away from the hustle and bustle of the big city to be in a more small town atmosphere and less crowed beach of Kailua. One of the best features of the property is the hospitality of Corinne and Guy. They were so pleasant and helpful. Just truly great people that we enjoyed meeting.
My husband and I booked this rental for the week of July 27th, but unfortunately wasn't able to make it. Our daughter ruptured her eardrum the night before we were to travel. We were all devastated as we had been looking forward to this trip for so long. We called Corinne immediately and she was so understanding and accommodating. When you're going through such a stressful situation with a sick child and having to call and cancel all flights and accommodations - having someone be so kind and helpful really eased some of that stress. We called back to rebook our stay after our daughter recovered, but our preferred dates were taken by other renters. Corinne offered to help us get into her friend's rental that was nearby, and advice on any other areas we were looking into.
This would have been our sixth time using VRBO and we have dealt with many different temperaments in managers. You would be lucky to rent from Corinne - the entire VRBO experience is more than just what the property has to offer... it is also the warmth of the reception and the kind people who welcome you into their home.
Thank you again, Corinne! We'll hopefully be able to come stay one of these days :)
There's really not much to say other than it's a perfect location with great hosts which will ensure that you've got an unforgettable stay. There are two comfortable double beds which sleeps 4 easily and there's a small private path to the stunningly beautiful beach (about a minute walk) with all the beach gear you'll need. The house is at the end of a very quite dead-end road and it took us about 3 to 5 minutes per car to get to the centre of Kailua and about 25 to 30 minutes to the centre of Honolulu. This was our third Oahu holiday and although we stayed in larger and newer houses in both Kailua and the North Shore this is our favourite spot now and it will be certainly our preferred and first choice for our next Oahu trip.
