Stunning riverfront location and well appointed cabin

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time. Place is killer and we'd totally go back.

First the negatives: This did not get five stars for two reasons. 1. On our last night, the hot tub broke down and stopped being hot. When I wrote to the property, they quickly responded on how to fix it, but that didn't work for us. As we were leaving in a few hours, we let it go, simply bummed we didn't get to spend Sunday morning in the tub. What frustrated me is that we ran into a property manager/cleaner on our way out and he stated that it happens all the time - that it's not broken but simply a confusing hot tub... So if this is a frequent problem, I feel there should be much more clear instructions about this in the welcome book.

2. Our neighboring cabin had a large group of younger guys that were partying well into the night. It wasn't crazy, but hooting and hollering in their hot tub well past midnight made me a touch cranky. The positive is that we never saw them - despite being close, the design of the home made us feel totally immersed in nature with no intrusion by neighbors.

Now the positives: this place had everything. Ceran wrap for the leftover foods, trays for baking, bean grinder and coffee press plus beans. Towels in every room, soaps, blankets, pillows, all the things you need to be comfy. Deep tub for a bath. Plus they had 2 bins of toys, tons of board games, and movies to watch. As it rained while we were there, we put on the gas fire with a switch, had beers and played games all day. It was lush. The beds were comfy, the house nice and clean.

It was about an hour to Mt Hood Meadows in really gnarly conditions, no traffic mid week. So, convenient and accessible. We have a minivan and could drive the roads to the house and driveway no problem. FYI, heading there on Saturday, we turned around b/c the traffic was so bad (snow!).

The downstairs bedroom has a loud roof, so you can hear the rain really well (I liked that!). The two upstairs rooms don't have doors or curtains on the skylights, so just something to be aware of. You can hear the river from both bed rooms, but more so from the middle floor one.

Also, the photo pictured here is the BACK of the house! I kept looking for it when we were driving around, as the front looks totally different. Lol.

Perfect get away for a long weekend.

  • 4 of 5

The crowsnest is a well designed, comfortable and well appointed home for a short getaway with the family. The home is rustic but with very modern features and has every creature comfort covered. The three storey birch trees were an amazing touch that we didn't expect. We loved that the TV room is on the top floor so the TV didnt become the center of attention in the main living room. The collection of kids toys was a great added bonus that our one year old loved and played with instead of the toys we took with us. We also liked that the Hot tub is literally right by the river which is a great experience........although the water level was VERY high during our stay due to heavy rain so it added a little sense of caution to being out there after dark or with kids.

All in all I would highly recommend this place but with a few caveats. 1) the bedrooms are pretty small so not a lot of space to put your stuff. This was fine for a long weekend (just the two of us plus our baby) but could be an issue with longer stays or groups with more than two adults; 2) there are skylights in the upstairs master bedroom and TV room/3rd bedroom so expect to be woken by the light of you try and sleep there; 3) the light fixtures in several areas of the house don't provide a lot of light particularly on the stairs. I wear glasses for moderate longsightedness and these stairs had me nervous to navigate without glasses on; 4) the drains in the bathtub and sink upstairs were both clogged with hair and black mold. I cleaned them best I could but there weren't any rags or scrub brushes around to do the job right. Again, this is just a normal thing that happens to a house that gets lived in but with the cleaning fees that get paid this shouldn't be the guests' job to address; and, 5) they aren't kidding when they say the critters in the area really do raid the trash. The instructions that get sent to you tell you not to put the trash outside but to leave it in the cedar trash container by the house next door. Well there was no such container by the house next door so we hauled our trash home. The guests before us left theirs in the plastic trash cans outside which got raided so there was a lot of trash scattered across and around the driveway. Again this is an issue of common sense for the renters and not the rental owners fault. However, it should have been picked up prior to our stay.

Beautiful cabin in a perfect location.

This place is perfect! Loved being able to hear the river from anywhere on the property. The placement of the hot tub on the river bank was genius! Perfect for a smaller group wanting to relax in a cozy atmosphere. Thank you for sharing your space with us!

Beautiful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My stay at the Eagle's Nest was fantastic! It was my first time visiting Oregon, and I already want to go back. For me, the best part of this property is the incredible outdoor space. Being able to walk over to the river was such an awesome perk. There was a fire ban, so we didn't get an opportunity to use the fire pit, but there were plenty of other spaces to sit outside and enjoy nature. Although there is another house very close, the foliage really helps maintain the feeling of privacy.

All in all, the outdoor amenities are really what made this place stand out to me. I would come back just to sit on the patio and listen to the river. If you're looking for an escape into the peace of nature, I would highly recommend the Eagle's Nest.
