About owner / property manager
The land where Top Hat Terrace is situated has been owned by the Thomson family for over 10 years. Paul Thomson himself built the house and developed the surrounding area where the property resides. After a lengthy battle with Parkinsons Disease, Paul died June 21, 2013. While clearing out some of his belongings in the house, the Top Hat that his grandfather purchased in England was discovered. In honour of Paul and all of the Thomson Ancestors, Top Hat Terrace was created so that everyone who stays here will be able to enjoy the beautiful view and partake in all of the adventures that the Three Valley Gap area has to offer.

Beautiful winter setting, nice accomodations and friendly service
We had a great weekend at the property over a very snowy winter weekend, and greatly enjoyed the outdoor fire pit, outdoor hot tub and views across the lake from the living room and deck. The large living room and dining room space was a great fit for our group. We would definitely return for another weekend getaway.
Thanks Top Hat.
Nice house and view
The house is well appointed with most things you would need in the kitchen. Very comfortable living room and master bedroom furniture. There was a nice little gift basket left for us for things you might need on the first day. We used the fold out bed in the basement - our daughter found it quite lumpy. Air conditioning would be a real plus, as it was around 30 degrees when we were there, and the house got very hot at night.
The lake is beautiful, and there are 2 canoes and a kayak that worked well. The lake is not good for swimming, as there are a great deal of logs jutting out at all angles. My partner said you could feel them hitting the bottom of the canoe quite often. You can see fish jumping out front, and they enjoyed trying some fishing. Apparently the owners are not allowed to remove the logs, as they are now used as fish spawning ground.
Aside from that, the only real downside is the noise. The traffic from the highway virtually never lets up, and unless you are standing within a few feet of someone outside, you would have to yell or move closer. Inside the house, the traffic noise was not bothersome. The trains also go by many times a day across the lake, and honks etc at night and early morning. I heard the train at about 1030 our last night, and 517am our last morning. We commented that sometimes when the train was stopping or starting, it sounded like an orchestra was tuning up.
The outdoor furniture could also use some improvement - the chairs are quite flimsy and uncomfortable. The barbecue worked well, and is a good alternative to turning on the oven in the summer time.
Paula the resident caretaker is friendly and helpful.
My family of 4 totally enjoyed our stay.kids loved the lake and water toys, house was amazing, super clean. Care taker was very nice and helpfull. My only complaint was the noise of traffic as your right on the highway. Other then that, a great spot to vacation!
Top Hat Terrace -Rustic Charm - The View does not get better than this!!!!
The view from the wrap around deck is incredible. The lake, boathouse and fire pit are just many of the extras. Perfect for families, a ton of room with games for everyone. Fishing (although we caught very few and they were small), swimming and boating right at your doorstep. The space and lack of neighbors was even better, especially for our noisy family. The owner was super and the caretaker very friendly and helpful. They both tried very hard to please. The only negatives, would be the beds and one shower. They would be good for a family with small children, but for 6 adults, the beds needed a little work. Having said that though, we would definitely stay again and totally enjoyed our week stay!!! Thanks Again for sharing your home and making it our home away from home!!
False advertising, but beautiful
- this place was beautiful however the owner owned an RV next to the place that we did not know about she also insisted on hanging out with us. On a second note the septic tank was clearly full and so when we were in the hot tub near the lake it smells a lot. Other than that it was beautiful as advertised close to Revelstoke and a good price.
It is unfortunate that you didn't enjoy your stay at Top Hat Terrace. It has taken some time to reply to your comments as this review was posted almost a full year after your stay and we wanted to ensure that the reply was researched properly. We are confused as to why you think that Top Hat Terrace has ANY false advertising. We pride ourselves on advertising our property accurately and honestly. You were obviously a guest of the person who rented our vacation rental because our correspondence with your host clearly stated that our RV was parked on the property and would be occupied during your stay. This year, we built an apartment to house our caretaker(s), so the RV is no longer necessary. As far as hanging out during your stay, it is our policy to only interact with guests on a minimal basis such as performing yard and hot tub maintenance. We interact with guests when something needs to be addressed or when invited and for a minimal amount of time. Finally, with regards to the septic smell, the tank was indeed serviced as required and as discussed the area had substantial rain fall and snow melt for at least a week prior to your stay causing a minor concern that has been addressed. We do wish that you had brought your concerns directly to us during your visit as perhaps you would have been able to enjoy your holiday more.
Great place to stay
Wonderful house. Plenty of room. Private little beach. Lake is great for boating and fishing. My husband even caught a fish. Location is close to highway but the house is very sound proofed. Great for family, group, relaxing, anything!!! Great helpful hosts!!
