Private, Quiet Location!
This was our first visit to Door County and we had a great week at Cote's Cottage. The cottage easily accommodated our family of 6 (4 kids age 2-7) and had all the amenities we needed. The owner's daughter was staying at the cottage next door and was very nice and helpful. Our favorite part of the stay was the beach, which is fairly private and had lots of chairs, beach toys, kayaks and life jackets. We saw very few people the week we were there so it was very quiet and relaxing. We wanted to stay in the less busy part of Door County, and this was perfect. It wasn't a far drive to any of the places we wanted to visit and the scenery is beautiful. Cave County park (lots of cliffs and rock cairns) and Potawatomi State Park were two of our favorites. We would highly recommend and definitely stay here again!
Our family of 6 (4 kids age 5-17 yrs) spent a very nice week at this cottage. The pictures are exactly how it looked with no bad surprises. It seemed to be the perfect mix of rustic and modern for us. We wanted to have the feel of staying in an "up North" cottage but not so rustic that it wasn't enjoyable and this met those needs. The owners have a beautiful home right next to the cabin, although they were not visiting the week we were there, they did leave all the instructions and necessities needed to make our stay very comfortable. There was amble room in the cottage and we did cook a feel meals and all of the items we needed were available.
This was our first time visiting Door County and we really didn't know a "good" location from a "bad" but we got lucky and feel that this is a great location. It is a sandy beach, which the kids loved and they even have several kayaks, canoes, boogie boards and lots of beach toys to my 5 year old daughters delight! We enjoyed a few campfires on the beach, which was a big hit for all of us. The whole time we were there we only saw a few other people on the beach, it felt like our own private island most of the time.
Everything in Door county is an easy 30-50 min drive. We found a lot to do right in Sturgeon Bay, with fun shopping, restaurants and boat rentals. (We rented a pontoon for an afternoon and it was the highlight of the trip!)
Like any place with woods and water there are mosquitos, so pack your bug spray ;-). We had several rainy days so we used the local YMCA pool (very impressive!) that was about 10 minutes away.
I would not hesitate to recommend this cottage for anyone looking for a quiet, sandy beach front home. The view of the lake from the cottage was beautiful, regardless of the weather. We also enjoyed seeing an eagle, deer, loads of pelicans and other wildlife! The owners were very easy to make arrangements with and the whole experience was very positive!
