Cute single story beach cottage with about 1700 sq. ft. of beachfront living. From the front door you can see all the way through the house to the ocean. The house has been recently updated with all laminate floors, quartz counter top, new stainless steel appliances, brushed nickel fixtures, new electronics and more. The beach theme colors, counter and linens give you that warm, comfortable feel. The large hallway and great room layout of the house makes it feel openly large. At night, there is nothing like falling asleep to the sound of the crashing waves. Also make sure you enjoy all the little details for your comfort (e.g. outdoor shower, coffee bean grinder, surf board racks, USB phone charger plug, spices, warming drawer, 10 page detail instructions/suggestions (once booked), printer/copier, internet, cable tv, bluetooth Bose speaker and etc.).

North County is a wonderful flash into the past of old beach cities but still very close to many San Diego attractions such a Legoland, Del Mar Track, Sea World, San Diego Wild Animal Park, Petco Padres Stadium, La Jolla, Torrey Pines, Downtown Gas lamp District and Old Town San Diego
If you prefer to stay local, bike or walk to nearby restaurants and bars. Relax or dine on the back patio with views over the Leucadia/Encinitas bluff to the ocean below. Watch the surf, dolphins, whales or people. Take the 91 steps to the beach for your morning/evening surf, walk or stroll. This place is amazing!!
During your stay, we try to provide you will the necessities (e.g. beach towels, linens, spices and cooking gadgets). All we ask is you please replace what you consume so the house can stay stocked for the others to come.
Note: the City of Encinitas has a 10% tax to all rentals less than 31 days for the purpose of restoring the beach sand. The tax will be added to the rental rate.
We are a family of 5 that loves to stay active, work hard, play hard and entertain.
Matt Matthews purchased this house in 1989
It's Amazing! You'll be hypnotized from the moment you set foot in the cottage and see the view. What a way to relax or not!
Beachfront bluff with 85 stairs to the beach and a popular surf spot - Grandview.
We thoroughly enjoyed staying at the beachfront cottage in Leucadia. The location of the cottage is very convenient to 101/North Coast Highway and several restaurants, markets, parks in Leucadia. On several occasions we walked to the Leucadia Oaks park in the morning for the kids to play before the coastal fog burned off. Additionally, we enjoyed walking to get lunch at Haggo's Organic Taco, which had amazing fish tacos, and the Just Peachy Market for groceries. Downtown Encinitas was just a short drive away with a number of excellent restaurants and coffee shops and Whole Foods Market all of which had relatively easy parking access. Being on Neptune Avenue was also great, which outside of the parking lot at Grandview on good surf days was not overly busy with traffic and was a great walking/running route.
The house is very nicely finished and furnished and the floor layout and beds make for significantly more room than the square footage might otherwise suggest. We hosted local friends (with children) for portions of our stay and never felt cramped. The linens, towels, and soft goods were all tasteful and very comfortable and included in the rental was access to anything you might need to enjoy the area and the beach. We used the grill, surf boards, bikes, balls, beach toys, everything...it felt very similar to being at home.
The deck and beach access were amazing. Particularly when friends and children were visiting, we used the table on the deck for all meals and the sunsets in the evening were glorious. We also spent a lot of time on the deck after dark as the seating area and outdoor lighting made it very comfortable at night.
Finally, our experience with the owner was great. He was both responsive and reasonable in all of our dealings. We had an issue with the water running continually after the toilet was flushed in one of the bathrooms and we called the owner. Again, it felt like being at home as the plumber came over to fix the toilet with no inconvenience on us in anyway.
Overall, we had a great experience at the cottage and would gladly vacation there again.
This is a fantastic property that has been updated in a stylish and attractive manner - just as great, if not better, than it looks in the photos. The location is pretty much unbeatable (with one minor caveat), and the house is oriented in a way to maximize the beach views. Also, the house is incredibly well-appointed - tons of beach gear for guest use, lots of towels, high-end linens on the beds, and a well-stocked kitchen. The owner is also helpful and attentive. Really could not recommend this more highly for a beach rental in this area.
A couple very minor points keep this from being five stars - (1) One minor downside of this location is that the nearby public beach access and parking lot attract quite a crowd. Backing out of the garage during high-traffic beach hours can be a minor adventure, and the one bedroom that backs to the street can get a little noisy with the windows open (but this quiets considerably once the parking lot closes at 10:00). (2) A small downside of the incredible, awe-inspiring ocean views from the home's huge glass doors/windows on the beach side is that the sun streaming in can make it really hot. Keeping the windows and sliding doors open, and the triangle sun-shade up, help a lot, and the owner has a bunch of fans on-hand to keep things cool. But some curtains on the back half of the house might help keep it a little more comfortable, especially if you need to lock up the house when you're away. (3) We had a little trouble using the DVD player - though who really needs to watch TV when you're this close to the beach?
We had a terrific stay at this property and would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a mellow beach vacation. We hope to be back soon.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this amazing home. The home has updated finishes and just about anything you will need for a beach getaway. Having direct beach access was a plus! Thank you Matthews family! We will be back!
A very nice home with million dollar views. The home was comfortable, bright, and modern. Also, it came stocked with plenty of toys to enjoy the beach with for youngsters and adults. The owners were easy to communicate with, before and during our stay with questions about the rental. We are hoping to rent this very house again next year if it's available.
In the past when we visited our son who is stationed at Camp Pendleton we would stay in a hotel near his apartment in Carlsbad. On this visit we rented this beautiful house located right on the beach in Encinitas. Everything about the house from the incredible views to the interior furnishings made the house the perfect place to relax and have a great time as a family. We spent hours on the patio just enjoying the amazing views and entertaining. The kitchen is so well equipped that I cooked dinner almost every night. It made me so happy to provide a beautiful place for my son and few of his friends to stay where they could relax, have fun and get a home cooked meal.
This house is exceptional and we look forward to returning. There is no better feeling then to go to bed with the sound of the ocean and get up early to the amazing views. Thank you so much to Matt for making everything perfect. The beautiful house and the views are the obvious things that make it so perfect, but the real beauty of this house is the family feeling that is immediately felt the moment you walk in the door. It is a very special place!

This property is fantastic, situated right in front of a great surf break, with own stairs to the beach. The back porch/deck is incredible with great view, the inside is great too, very spacious, great kitchen and dinning area. Beach cruisers and boogie boards were available as well.
I would return.
Near LEGOLAND, not far from other San Diego Attractions such as SeaWorld & Wild Animal Park. Near La Costa Spa and Golf Resort.
