The perfect vacation
Our house was so cozy and well equipped that we had the perfect vacation ! the location is directly on the water and we would spend hours looking at the view, enjoying the sunsets and letting our stress roll away with the waves. Despite its close proximity to the road, the house was extremely quiet and private. The grounds surrounding the house were just as lovely as the waterfront and we enjoyed sitting under the trees , but the terrace with waterview was the best spot from Breakfast onward. Our hosts met us on arrival and made us feel so welcome and when our gas grill didn't work, they promptly replaced it with their own.
You won't be sorry if you book this house, it is the perfect place for relaxing and regenerating.
Thanks for the review. It was nice meeting you.
Beautiful and enduring house, 10 min walk to ferry, with lovely shore front and westward view of bay
We booked the property late and were the more pleased to discover a very special place to stay a week. The west bay facing bed room and veranda have an exquisite view through the trees shown in the adjoining photo. The back facing room kitchen and en suite bedroom are also beautifully appointed. The middle two bedrooms rooms have less natural light, as might be expected in an old stone house. Throughout, the rooms well stocked with everything that would be needed on holiday, not least the kitchen.
The outside included fantastic spots to sit, and an exceptionally well landscaped grounds of several acres. We spent time on the shorefront decking most evenings. We had fun playing croquet, fishing and paddling around in the kayaks.
Top quality TV and no internet suited us perfectly, the latter being always available if needed at the ferry dock or library. At night all that could be heard was a few crickets and a lapping of waves when the tide was in. Brief traffic noise at back when the five or so ferries a day moved in and out.
It's a great island to explore and our host Tania was extremely helpful in acquainting us with it and hospitable throughout our stay.
I would say the house would not suit everyone. If you appreciate style and quality of vacation life of former times, and a quiet bay shoreline, go for it. I am glad we did.
Thanks so much for the wonderful review. We appreciated the 4 of you as well and look forward to seeing you again some time.
Gorgeous picturesque oasis
This beachfront gorgeous home is an island oasis. Loved the comfort and old charm style of the home and it's surroundings. My favorite features were the comfortable sizable kitchen, the picturesque Florida sunroom, the waterfront bond fire, and the patio overlooking the water. I especially loved taking the kayaks for a stroll, one of the highlights of the entire week. The only areas I found to be a downfall was not all the rooms come equipped with a TV, so for a party of 7 with unique TV taste it was a task.
Thank you for the review. I enjoyed meeting you very much.
Home away from home
This was a perfect spot! We absolutely loved it all. From the house to the island, it was amazing!
Thank you so much. I'm happy you enjoyed the experience. I particularly enjoyed the artistry displayed in our guest book. Thanks for the kind words.
We loved our experience and hope to return soon!
You were wonderful house guests! Come back soon.
An incredible ocean front location with amazing sunsets and easy access to the ferry.
Unique seaside pastoral setting with gardens, lawn games and great porch and patio. Swan's is very quiet and beautiful island with lots of great places to explore. Fine sand beach, Carrying place, Irish Point, bouncing rocks, Noah's ballast and the light house!
The owners were very pleasant, accommodating and very gracious hosts.
Thank you so much for the great review. It was nice meeting you and your family. We'd be very happy to have you back again.
We're a ferrry ride away from Acadia National Park and the much photographed Bass Harbor lighthouse. Swan's Island has its own beautiful lighthouse, harbor, walking paths, beach and freshwater quarry. There is a deposit of giant rocks called Noah's Ballast to visit. Walking the coastline and biking the roads is a great activity for kids and adults alike. Our home is located on Mackerel Cove. It is convenient to the ferry. We have a pebble beach. You can get into one of the 3 kayaks that are provided right from this beach and explore the coastline. We can provide you with a boat mooring. A ping pong table, croquet set, badminton set, and hammock are provided. We offer a large yard in which to enjoy these activities. There is a tent platform if your kids feel like sleeping outside. You can enjoy the sunsets from the inside porch or the patio. Perhaps you'd rather be on the waterfront cooking your lobster on the seaside fireplace. On chilly nights enjoy evenings next to the woodstove. There are books and games in the house. A beautiful million dollar library is only three quarters of a mile away. It boasts a porch open 24 hrs. a day with free WiFi. Open for several hours each day except for Mon., the library allows the use of computers, has a special section for kids, and gives borrowing privileges to visiting residents.
