4 bedrooms, 3 baths, large living room with views from every angle
About Sharon Smith
Growing up military my husband I both lived many places. His family called Pensacola, FL home. After our two boys were born it only seemed fitting to have a vacation home in such a great family-friendly area that already felt like home away from home.
Sharon Smith purchased this House in 2013
Why Sharon Smith chose Villa Segunda
After looking for 4 years - we knew this was the property for us. High ceilings, plenty of living room space to gather, bedrooms separated by the living room, plenty of parking, and amazing views of the water. This house needed some 'love' and it took a lot! But the results are awesome - we hope you agree!
What makes this House unique
Location, location, location! We've stayed at most of the high rises on the beach and we are closer to the water at this house than any of those. We enjoy having extra parking for when local family come to visit. We LOVE not waiting for elevators and having an outdoor area to store beach supplies and to shower! It's so easy to walk to the beach that we usually walk over with our coffee in the morning (although the view from the porch is just as good)!

Great location and amenities but pool had chemical issues
Overall we loved the location and the home itself. The proximity to the beach and the kitchen amenities were excellent. On the downside, we were very excited about the backyard pool but unfortunately the pool gave 3 of the 5 kids (not related to one another and non with sensitive skin issues) whom stayed there rashes. This happened within hours after swimming in the pool on 8/1/2015. We called Paradise Beach Homes phone number on Sat and Sun and they told us that the "pool had been shocked on Sat" and that was probably causing it. The situation continued and flared up all week as the kids continued to swim. A caretaker came several times that week to "check the pool" but she was only observed checking the filter/gutter cover and stayed less then 3 mins each visit. I hope this situation gets cleared up before other families are affected. A couple of areas of possible improvement are: downstairs/outdoor toilet/bathroom so don't have to walk upstairs and all through house and bedrooms when wet to use restroom, and adding a closet and dresser to the king room which doesn't have one (on the front, right side when you enter) because it only had a small armoire and 2 drawers for a week's worth of clothes. Also the cable only worked on the TV in the kid/bunk bed room which was odd since the largest TV was in the main room. I also provided this review verbatim to Paradise Beach Homes Management.
I'm so sorry you had those problems. If you come stay with us again PLEASE don't hesitate to call me! My number is on here and on business cards in the home. I would have made sure someone checked the pool water and fixed the cable while you were still there.
Although it's after the fact, I did speak to my pool guy and our management company. The pool was shocked - it's code to keep it at certain level of chlorine and with the extensive rains they did have to shock it. We pay extra to have the pool cleaned twice a week and they checked the chlorine while there and found it in the normal range. The caretaker you saw comes everyday - she makes sure the water level is proper and checks the filter - she doesn't check the chlorine. The guys that clean the pool come extremely early so as not to disturb guests - it's not surprising you didn't see them. There was a purple flag the week you were staying so maybe it was combination of things. Either way its no fun while on vacation! My boys get rashes sometimes in the ocean and other times don't - I'd love to figure it out but haven't yet. I called the guests after you and they have had no problems - but I will keep checking it and have asked our pool people to run extra tests.
The cable should have been working on all the TVs. Sometimes buttons get pushed and things get messed up. If you have any trouble getting help from Paradise, again, please call me direct and I will make sure your issues are addressed.
As far as a downstairs bathroom - you're right - that would be great! However, it's not permitted by building codes that close to the beach.
The king bedroom with a private bathroom that doesn't have a true closet is a quirk we just live with. I purchased the biggest armoire I could find for hanging clothes. We just leave our folded clothes in our suitcases on the luggage racks. When we remodeled we used the space available to turn the original jack-n-jill bath into two private baths on that side of the house. That meant using the extremely small closet that was in the bathroom as the shower you now see!
As I always say, it's a remodeled - little bit quirky home - with a twist of lime!
Amazing family vacation home1
What a great home to have a family vacation. My family had a wonderful time. There was a red flag and riptide warning for most of our trip so the pool got a lot of extra use. The home is well stocked with amenities, very spacious, and very clean. We had no issues except for all the traffic on the street out front. We even had someone texting as they came around the corner and drove over the no parking sign in front of the house. The children also made good use of the sand lot across the road next to the beach access, playing baseball and looking for shells. I recommend this home for any family with children. Thank you for having such a wonderful vacation home to rent.
Oh, our poor "no parking" sign. Ha! The good and the bad about being beside a public access point is that the people watching some days is really fun - surfers, weddings, marathon runners etc. The bad part is some days - although very few - it can be crowded. Luckily when staying at this home you have plenty of area to park without getting stuck in the sand!
So glad you enjoyed your stay Amanda! Hope you make it back!
A great week for "winers"
Three couples from extended family stayed at the Wine Down House during the last week of April. It was a great week for “winers”. First of all, the house is exactly as pictured in the VRBO listing – no surprises. The large porch in the front of the house, overlooking the Gulf was a favorite gathering place for us. Great for morning coffee, afternoon cocktails, and evening wine.
Beach access was outstanding. While we were across the street from the Gulf, the lot across from the house is empty so the view and access are unobstructed. We walked on or sat on the beach every day. Saw a spectacular storm out over the water and a school of porpoise one day. There was a lot of traffic from people coming and going to the beach. But since we had the double driveway, we never had to worry about parking at the house. We could have probably fit 7 or 8 cars there, if we had tried.
We also spent a lot of time in the kitchen, trying out new recipes for some great dinners. Lots of serving pieces, pots, pans, utensils, etc. The separate wine bar was perfect for setting up our wine and cocktail station. Having the extra ice maker ensured that we never ran out of cubes. We did not do any fishing while we were in the area -- we simply went to Joe Patti’s and picked up their incredible fish/seafood for our grill. One of the great services offered by the rental agent is replacement for the gas tank on the grill. When it gets low, just drive it back to the rental office and they will swap for a full one. So nice to not have to go looking (and paying) for a refill.
The bedrooms are placed in the house in a way that allows for some quiet and privacy. The bathrooms are incredible. The owners spared no expense here – marble walls, glass walk-in shower stalls. Exquisite!
The house is thoughtfully designed, nicely decorated, well-equipped, and a great vacation destination. The owner and the rental agent were both very easy to work with. Thanks for providing your home for us to rent!
We are so glad you enjoyed it! I'm glad you liked the "bar". That was blank wall and brilliant husband had the idea of making a large bar with an ice-maker. I think it's great and I'm so glad you do too!
Come back and stay again - and again - and again!
Best Beach Trip we've ever had due to this house!
Our combined family of five adults and five children absolutely enjoyed every minute of our trip in this house. Even though it was too cold for us to even consider going into the beautiful pool outside in the back yard, it was still such a great set up to enjoy the view. The house itself is well appointed. Top notch appliances and cookware, linens, fixtures, showers, etc. The layout was wonderful and spacious. The walk to the beach only being a few steps from our front door was priceless. The only drawback I could state was that the dryer wouldn't dry (took 3 cycles to dry a few items) and there were some places in the tiling where the grout was breaking up on the flooring. Other than that, the perks outweighed any of those items. Such as the plush blankets which were plentiful. We were still coming off the winter months so those were great to have on the beds. I couldn't say enough great things about this house. It seemed many places to the right and the left of us were under construction or renovation. There was some noise due to that, but overall the place was very private. I also have to say working with the rental company was a pure delight. They were helpful and hands on. People came to check the water levels of the pool, pull out the trash cans for us the night before pickup of trash, etc. Check in and check out was easy as can be. We will definitely be back to this house not only this year again, but hopefully book it for longer periods of time each year to come. It is by far the best choice we have made when renting vacation homes. Pure delight! Thank you!
Thanks so much! We'll look forward to seeing you again!
This home is so comfortable - and with such a great location. Being a place people would want to come back to year after year was the goal in the beginning and continues to be as we move forward - even for us!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it - now come back when it's warm!! =)
We stayed here just last week and were sorry we had to leave. As other reviewers have said, this house is well laid out and appointed. Even with 10 people, including a 5 year old, no one felt crowded. The bedrooms are quite and feel very private, with the door closed you couldn't even tell anyone was around. The pool was well enjoyed, the front porch extensively used and the sea view and breeze much appreciated. Being able to hit the water within 2 min. of leaving the house was unbeatable.
Loved our stay, was perfect for a family of grown kids and grand kids too. Beach was in our front yard! The boys played a little sand lot baseball, football & soccer. Plenty of room for all to spread out and have our own space. We hope to come back next year!
Pensacola Beach is wonderful location to relax with family and friends. The beaches are soft white sand, there are activities for kids of all ages, historic sites, great restaurants, and home of The Blue Angels. The Naval Aviation Museum is a great place to visit when you need a day out of the sun. Check out the downtown area for lots of amazing restaurants and shopping. The Blue Wahoos baseball games are affordable and so much fun! Mini-golf, climbing structures, jet ski rentals, go cart track, and so much more can be found right on the island! The Gulf Breeze Zoo is one of the best small zoos we've ever been to! For more information please contact us and we can help with whatever you are looking for.
