Overview

About the property

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms/2.5 bath/Sleeps 9

Our cozy, log cabin, 'Camp-View Cabin ', was built Oct. 2004. It is still neat and clean; it looks new. It has lodge-style decor, and is set in a wooded neighborhood, with Lake Lure access. The open swim area is located a short walk (or drive) down a gravel road and past a quaint waterfall. There you will find a beautiful setting with docks, picnic tables, lounge chairs, and a kayak rack that holds two kayaks for your use.

The cabin is located 3 miles from the shopping towns of Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. The dramatic Rocky Broad River flows alongside the town, where you can enjoy restaurants and shops, including an old general store, full of mountain-sytle gifts. Chimney Rock Park is right there in town (check out their website.)

Within an hour are such spots as Historic Hendersonville, culture-rich Asheville (home of the Biltmore Estate, The Grove Park Inn and Spa, and the Blue Ridge Parkway). Sliding Rock, many waterfalls, and hiking trails are also around the area for the nature lover.

Camp-View Cabin is located on property that was once a 100-acre youth camp, with its borders on one of the most scenic parts of Lake Lure. The rock-faced Rumbling Bald Mountains rise toward heaven from the meadow on the west side of 'camp', and can be seen from the window in our cozy loft.

In addition to the commonly seen fish, turtles, ducks, and squirrel, are deer and wild turkey, which roam freely in the camp. On rare occasion you may spot a raccoon, fox, bobcat or even a bear.

This cabin was built in 2004, with a vision that people might come here to escape the busy life back home and have time to enjoy the simple things - love, relationships, and God's beautiful creation. Enjoy!

About Randy and Beth Dillon

My wife and I moved to the Asheville area in 1992. We adore the mountains so much, that we decided to build a log home at the lake. We loved it so much that we could not share this alone. Our kids enjoy the lake during the summer months. We like to hike, camp, and bike as a family. This neighborhood where the cabin is located is great for all of these outdoor events. We know you will love our cabin as much as we do. Take care, Randy, Beth, Jared and Kaleigh.

Randy and Beth Dillon purchased this cabin in 2004

Why Randy and Beth Dillon chose Blue Ridge Mountains

This property was once a youth camp. It has many features that bring back that feeling of being at 'camp'. Some of the orignial buildings are still there (the horse barn, the mess hall, the recreation hall, and some of the cabins). The swim area is wide-open and beautiful. It is set back just a bit from the big open lake and is a nicer place to swim and lay on the raft than places right on the lake, where the boats or going by. There is a floating dock in the middle, so people can swim out, jump and dive off, or sit and enjoy the beauty from there.

We rented this cabin for Thanksgiving, 07. The cabin is nicely decorated and immaculate. It exceeded our expectations. We were celebrating some milestones plus Thanksgiving, and all went perfectly. They supply paper products and condiments and I loved having the instructions on everything to put us at ease. The fireplace is wonderful and helps with the atmosphere. Rent with confidence.

Quiet, comfortable, clean and well appointed

  • 4 of 5

I stayed here with my husband and my 2-year-old son, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cabin was very comfortable and clean. The family who owns it is very thoughtful and provides many amenities to their guests. My husband enjoyed the jacuzzi tub while our 2-year-old enjoyed the bunk beds, play area with trucks and books, and even the rocking chair in the living room! I appreciated that we had access to their pots, pans, and even a blender. The rocking chairs on the front porch were very relaxing. This place is definitely tucked away in the mountains. If you are looking for a place to get away from it all then this is your place. The lake is a short drive (or you can walk there) from the cabin. It's very beautiful and relaxing. There is plenty of wilderness (deer, wild turkey and we even saw a young bear about 1/2 mile from the cabin!)

Beautiful home

  • 4 of 5

The home is lovely, nicely decorated. A short walk to the lake.

Negatives: Carpenter bees on the decks made it difficult to sit outside. They were aggressive. You can hear talking and walking around that takes place in the upstairs bedroom from the first floor bedroom. Possibly heavy rugs as a buffer?

For those who have never been to the area before, the roads getting here may be a bit challenging.

Overall remote and quiet.

Owner's Response: We are glad that you thought our cabin was lovely and nicely decorated. The carpenter bees are out a few weeks a year to do their mating. They are unwelcomed by us, as they can damage the wood on the cabin. We have traps and take many different measures to cut down on them. Often they fly high or are on the side of the house, where they are not seen. They do not bite. In 12 years we have hardly ever had guests mention them. It's interesting to hear that the roads are "challenging". The entrance gate, as well as the many acres where our cabin sits, is flat. There are a few side roads in the neighborhood that have a slight incline "hill" and a slight down-hill to the lake. The 2-mile road from the flat town, Chimney Rock/Lake Lure, to our gate is a gradual incline with a few curves. We would describe it as "very minimal" when speaking about driving in the mountains. We are happy that you had a quiet time here.

Everything you need.

  • 5 of 5

Visited in late April. The town and Lake were both quite. No big crowds to work around. Although it was a rainy few days when we were here we still were able to kayak one day in between showers. Loved the cabin! We grilled out one evening too. Had all we needed in the cabin. Great proximity to Chimney Rock State Park. We spent an afternoon hiking there.

We would love to come back possibly in the summer. Had a great time.
