Restored Plantation Manager's Cottage, Two Doors from Beach

Bedrooms 2
Space 900 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 - 6 nights

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1.25 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Kamewile Cottage, is an original sugar plantation manager’s cottage, lovingly renovated and beautifully appointed in Island Style. It features a new fully-equipped kitchen, new bath, two spacious bedrooms, comfortable living room, lanai, and landscaped garden. Its nine and a half foot ceilings, giant airy windows, original crown moldings and wainscoting, original wood floors, and tropical ceiling fans in each room give you the feeling of 'paradise of old.'

The home is in Kekaha, the sunniest area of Kauai boasting the longest white sand beach in the Hawaiian Islands. This is the true Hawaii, away from the tourist-filled beaches and stores, where church services and grocery-store conversations are still heard in the Hawaiian language. Yet great restaurants, grocery, farmers market, shops, art galleries, and great Kauai outdoor activities are minutes away. Kekaha is at the doorway to Waimea Canyon, the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, famous for its hiking opportunities and vistas of the Napoli coastline.

Awake for coffee on the garden lanai.

Take a morning walk on the longest white sand beach on Kauai.

Stop for lunch at the Lodge at Kokee before an invigorating hike in Waimea Canyon.

Wash off your hiking muscles in the outdoor hot shower.

Stroll two doors down to the beach, cocktail in hand, to watch the island’s best sunset.

Prepare a light supper in the fully-equipped gourmet kitchen.

Then sleep peacefully in your pillow-top king and queen beds with luxurious Egyptian cotton sheets.

Kamewile Cottage is rented under NCU certificate #TVNC-4216. On-island contact for emergencies: 808-639-0772.

Wonderful place. All the necessary amenities. Quiet and away from the crowds!

  • 5 of 5

This was a nice place to stay. Very similar to what we expected based on VRBO description. The cottage was clean, located in a quiet neighborhood, well equipped including A.C. in the bedrooms and close to the beach. Early morning wake up call by local rooster.😀?

Loved this house

  • 5 of 5

I had a great one-week stay in this charming, well-equipped house. It's set behind a larger house but is completely surrounded by foliage and very private. I especially appreciated the outdoor shower and the porch for sitting in the evening. Across the main road is a miles-long beautiful beach--but unfortunately there's no swimming there. You need to drive some distance to find a good beach. Also remember that this is the hot side of the island (the temp was very high when I was there) but there are air conditioners in both bedrooms so sleeping is fine. Support from Sarah, the manager, is excellent--the internet was down for a few days but she and the owner's brother-in-law worked hard to fix it. The house is just far enough away from Waimea (an interesting little town with good places to eat) so that I felt really on vacation.

A gracious space with subtle powers to both calm and reinvigorate

  • 5 of 5

It was a great stay at the cottage. Of course, the sunny Kekaha location is invigorating and a quiet delight, the shops of Waimea just a few minutes away. But this is a special place - restored and maintained with obvious care, tucked away and private but just off the beach, the old home gleams with a soft glow from a bygone era and has subtle powers to both calm and invigorate. What a welcoming space to return to each beautiful Kauai day! The well-equipped kitchen was a breeze to use. The outdoor shower, a rare pleasure. And all is kept spotlessly clean. We found it hard to leave.

This house was perfect for us and our two boys. It was so nice to be on the other side of the island. A different adventure all together. The beaches are all so big and untouched. The house is so cute and the little room AC units keep you cool enough at night to sleep well.

Yes, there are roosters. Yes, they are annoying. This is Kauai!

It was also a great bonus to be able to do laundry - they leave you detergent which is a considerate touch. They have beach chairs for you, beach towels, and boogie boards, all of which we used and loved! We laid outside on the lawn at night and watched shooting stars.

We will be back next summer FOR SURE.

Beautiful house and garden

  • 4 of 5

We loved this beautiful house and it's deck and garden. We did find the chickens noisy and the bedrooms only have thin veils instead of full curtains, so we were up very early each morning. Still a great place to say and experience the west coast.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed it. The chickens delight the tourists, but they can be noisy on Kauai. They come and go in the neighborhood, but we just put air conditioners in each bedroom so that the windows can be closed and the white noise solves the problem!

Charming cottage near Waimea Canyon

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is absolutely charming - two lovely bedrooms, a well-appointed kitchen, nice common living space and front porch. It's a half block to uncrowded Kekaha Beach, and is a perfect location if your desire is to spend a lot of time hiking in Waimea Canyon and Koke'e State Park, or taking a boat trip along the Napali Coast. And, Kauai is small enough that it's an easy trip to the east and north coasts,. We particularly appreciated the window air conditioners in the bedrooms - very welcome during the warm summer.
