Overview

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-5)

The OCEAN is 20 feet from the door!

Our four season home is located in South Harpswell, on Potts Point, a small seaside community jutting out into central Casco Bay. Potts is a picturesque, friendly neighborhood. It is unique in that while quiet and an excellent place to walk and kayak, it also has a town dock, a lobster pound, and a restaurant all within a five minute walk.

This home has been completely renovated and is fully winterized. Some of the updates include: new paint, brand new queen mattress, new microwave and HE washer and dryer, new refrigerator, new picnic table, adirondack chairs/table and outdoor rocker and updated lanscaping. The bedrooms are located on the second floor The master bedroom has a queen sized bed and the spare bedroom has two single beds, a full kitchen/sunroom (front room), a living room with a sleeper sofa and a TV/DVD/VCR player (books, games and movies) and 'map room' that has a NOAA very large map of the area, map of area lighthouses, books on shells you may find and other resources like tide charts for the area! Dining and front room has large bay window overlooking the ocean- a great way to start the morning with a cup of coffee! As you can see, you are on the water and have rock stairs that go from the property to the practically private beach to shell, swim or kayak.

Right outside your window you will be visited daily by eider ducks and many other types of birds and wake up to smell the salt air and rugosa roses!

Kayaking is very popular in Ash Cove. Feel free to use our two kayaks with paddles and lifejackets (State law requires wearing these) during your stay. We also have a 'haul-off' for your dingy as well as a 250lb mooring in front of the house. Walking out to the uninhabited Point is very popular and there you can search for sea glass or shells at low tide and surf cast at high tide.

There are also many restaurants within a fifteen mile radius. We are located twelve miles from Brunswick and just a half hour from downtown shopping in Freeport (L.L. Bean). We have put together many menus of area restaurants so you can can look for a meal without leaving the house!

We have put a lot of love into this home and we hope you appreciate our efforts as it is where we vacation too! We request that renters treat it with the respect that this special property deserves and only rent with that thought in mind! New this year we will be renting from Sunday to Saturday at the request of past renters.

About The Owner

Married, one daughter.

We are dedicated to continuing the positive rental experience which this property has enjoyed.

The Owner purchased this house in 2010

Why The Owner chose Portland & Casco Bay

Having spent the last 15 years vacationing in the Casco Bay area we decided to buy a property in the area to continue to enjoy the exceptional beauty which Maine has to offer and share it with others.

What makes this house unique

We love to kayak. Having Orrs and Bailey Islands nearby is a great plus to this location. Where else can you walk to a restaurant, walk to get a lobster right off the boat or go just feet to the ocean?

Peaceful and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

My sisters and I went here for a girls weekend. What a lovely, peaceful place. Watching the sun rise and set from our chairs on the lawn, eating local seafood and resting on the comfortable beds. We loved the sun room and kitchen and spent most of our time, indoors, there. No high rises, crazy traffic or tons of people. Just peace, quiet and relaxation! Loved it.

Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This place was a little piece of heaven for us. My husband and I have a two year old and are expecting our next one in 2017 and this place provided a lovely time to ourselves. We kayaked, ate and cooked lobster, enjoyed the surrounding beauty and shopping. Mostly we loved soaking up every morning with breakfast biscuits from the Ship to Shore up the road and coffee while looking out that gorgeous huge window and those views. We slept well and returned to our Southern home with a renewed spirit!!!

Hard to believe earlier reviews are for the same place I stayed

  • 1 of 5

Yes, beautiful views, great location, washer/dryer a plus. But. . .inexpensive furniture, mismatched throughout the house. Stained or faded covers on futon, "leather" couch and chair, and other furnishings. Postage stamp size, pre-fab shower. Plastic plates, cabinets and freezer filled with owner's food. Cannot open "huge bay windows" with view because no screens. No need to go on.

Owner's Response: After 6 years of renting our home we have received 5 stars from every renter- until today! We thought we had been Punk'd by this review. Truly-"beautiful views great location" deserves 1 star?? Honestly! Even the VBRO Bear stayed with us last year and loved the place!! We feel obliged to respond to this even though the renters stayed in our home for 2 weeks without complaining- even once. Our pictures are exactly what you get. There is wicker furniture, solid pine log chairs, actual Italian leather couch and chair, LL Bean outdoor chair and rocker and maple bedroom set. If this renter had looked at the pictures they would have known exactly what they were renting. The futon is not stained but faded as it is in the "sunroom" and that is what happens to fabric in the sun. The plates are corelle for durability. Given the amount of actual plastic plates/cups we disposed of from the renters (left over in the fridge and in the cabinets) Correlle should not have been a lower standard for them. The bay window is not meant to be opened. It does not have screens as they obstruct the view of the ocean. They do not open because the window seat is there and is a danger to children. In fact the handles have been removed exactly for these reasons. The renters took it upon themselves to try to forcefully open the windows needing repairs done to one of the windows. There are other windows in the room which are perfectly functional for ventilation and have screens. NO mention is made of the over 100 ft of essentially private beach off the property, numerous other upgrades recently done nor the cleanliness of the home which I gather was acceptable since we personally clean the property after each rental. The feedback on the upright shower is valid- it's size is needed due to the allotted space in the bathroom to accommodate the washer/dryer. Larger people may have space issues and we will post a picture of the bathroom so no one else is unduly inconvenienced. Some food is available in the freezer and pantry as we know renters come at all hours and it can be a hassle to find food late at night. We offered, as we always do, this renter the opportunity to use if needed the food available-which they did. They also left food (most not usable by others) in the refrigerator and freezer as well. Others will make use of what they can. If they were truly unhappy they should have let us know without resorting to a gotcha review. "BEAUTIFUL VIEWS, GREAT LOCATION!"

We <3 Maine!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying at the house, as soon as we got there we realized that the pictures online don’t make justice to the house. The house is way better in real life. We had a little hipcup at the beginning with the hot water not running, but Ardell and Mike did everything in their power to fix it and did the right thing by us; besides that, we loved our stay in Harpswell, everything was so peaceful, beautiful sunrises and amazing sunsets, Portland, Freeport and so many other places to explore are within 25-30 minutes away or less.

We went whale watching, we were surrounded by whales, it was amazing!!, Our boxer Ginger and our little one year old Kaylee enjoyed our little walks by the beach, we kayaked, were able to enjoy ourselves thanks to Grandpa being there ;)

We will definitely be coming back. We <3 Maine.

Charm, character ― and the best sunsets ever!

  • 5 of 5

This wonderful cottage exudes charm and character, and its location directly on the water simply cannot be beat!!! My family and I enjoyed a fantastic stay in this beautiful place – the cottage is lovely and clean and very comfortable (though, honestly, it’s hard to tear yourself away from the kitchen/sunroom, with its huge bay windows and stunning view, to use any other room in the house). We really appreciated having kayaks on site to use, and we had the beach – and usually, it seemed, the entire cove – to ourselves. The water was warm enough for swimming, and no matter where we were during the day – hiking, exploring, whale watching – we made sure to be back in time to grab an Adirondack chair and enjoy a happy hour featuring one of the most spectacular sunsets you’ll experience anywhere! Thank you to the owners for sharing this very special home with guests, and we are already looking forward to a return visit!

We thoroughly enjoyed staying in your home. The cottage is lovely and very comfortable. It is close to everything and yet very private. The sunrises and sunsets were wonderful! Loved being able to bring our dog with us.
