1 bedroom, 1 living room, modern kitchen, bathroom, terrace
Set between the Basse and Moyenne Corniches, in a beautifully landscaped garden setting, within a secure and highly sought after block, this 1 bedroom apartment sits above the charming village of Villefranche sur Mer but is just 10 minutes from the bustle and varied attractions of Nice.
Inside, this spacious, light and bright apartment, benefits from a recent high quality refurbishment and is appointed with top of the range Italian furniture, fixtures and fittings. From a large terrace and from each of the living rooms there is ample space for al fresco dining and lounging in the sunshine, with the views over Villefranche, Beaulieu, St Jean, Cap Ferrat, just breathtaking. There is a dedicated parking garage in the basement with direct lift access to the 2nd floor apartment.
While a car is useful, it is by no means essential. For those who enjoy walking there are pleasant footpaths leading down to the waterfront restaurants of Villefranche sur Mer, beaches, harbour etc and up to the shops of Col de Villefranche. A bus passing just a 200m from the gate to the apartment is an alternative way of getting down to the waterfront or up to the Col and beyond to central Nice. There is also easy bus and train access to nearby Beaulieu, St Jean Cap Ferrat, Eze, Monaco and Nice and to more distant destinations such as Menton, Antibes and Cannes.
General: There are regular markets in the nearby villages of Villefranche, Beaulieu and of course Nice has a world renowned fruit and vegetable market and regular antique markets. Nice also has a wealth of museums, art galleries and an excellent opera house. There are the varied attractions from the Menton music festival to the Monaco Grand Prix, to the film festival in Cannes. For those interested in sailing there are regular yachting regattas in Antibes, Cannes and Monaco. Coastal paths from Villefranche through Beaulieu and St Jean, and then around Cap Ferrat provide wonderful scope for most enjoyable walks with lots of world renowned restaurants and bars making pleasant stopovers. In Villefranche itself quayside restaurants mingle with the colours of local fishing boats and nets. Little wonder it continues to be a favourite with so many artists, writers and other discerning aesthetes.
Special Attractions: There are frequent sailing regattas, including some wonderful events bringing together classic yachts from around the world. For those interested in antiques there are around the old port of Nice any number of excellent galleries and markets, and Villefranche hosts a weekly open air antique market on the waterfront. For those who love music there are regular internationally renowned music festivals along the Riviera, and of course there are the special attractions of the Monaco Grand Prix, the Canne Film Festival, and any number of other sporting and cultural events.

About Patricia or James
Late evening some 20 years ago while sailing the South Coast of France I had the pleasure of dropping anchor at the head of the Rade du Villefanche. As the lights came on around the bay it was as if one had entered a vast amphitheatre - truly magic. Returning a few years later we could not resist the temptation of purchasing just one of those spectacular lights so that we are now able to enjoy in a more leisurely way the reverse sight of all the little yachts bobbing away in the harbour below. I (Jim, writing this) am a retired professor of engineering (well not really, all that has changed is the salary cheques have stopped!) having spent the greater part of my career at University College London. Having grown up in New Zealand I came to the UK some 50 years ago to pursue what should have been a 2 possibly 3 years post-doctoral research fellowship at UCL. It was when my children were growing up that to stem the yearning to return to Aotearoa to see them experience the sort of outdoor childhood I had enjoyed we purchased a caravan on the S coast of England. There we accumulated a fleet of sailing boats of all shapes and sizes. Now that the children have long since moved on our fleet has vanished but we still enjoy sailing in our leisure time - although our modest little sailing yacht is now located in southern Calabria from where we can enjoy Sicily and the Aeloian islands - but it is a bit more difficult to reach! My wife Patricia is actually a Londoner - yes there are still a few - having spent her earliest years in Hampstead. She spent her professional life in the charity sector and prior to retirement was Resource Development Director at Marie Stopes, and played a major role in seeing what had been a network of Family Planning clinics in the UK become an international network of clinics dedicated to improving women and children health and education. We both enjoy travelling but also the delights of being with our now 1soon to be 12 grandchildren.
Why Patricia or James chose Arrondissement de Nice
Because of our grandparental roles we don't get down to Villefranche as much as we would like. So we have been pleased to be able to share our apartment and our love of this part of the world with so many guests over the past 15 years - many of whom have come back year after year. We think you will also enjoy the oportunity to share the wonderful outlooks over the Rade du Villefranche. The views from the apartment are really those of the classic Riviera scene,. with the tour coach buses travelling around the Moyenne Cornich (just above the apartment) stopping to allow sightseers an opportunity to take in the breathtaking beauty - usually with their cameras. But here is a chance for you to sit at your leisure and enjoy the same views over a cup coffee, a hot cup of tea or a cool glass of wine and a lovely home cooked meal.
What makes this Apartment unique
Jardin de Villefranche is possibly one of the most charming villages in the area between Cannes and Monaco. It offers views to die for and is remote from any of the hustle and bustle of main roads making it a perfect place to enjoy a tranquility that is becoming increasly difficult to find - one can even hear the flashing light from the lighthouse on Cap Ferrat! The apartment is set In vast and well kept gardens (that incidentally make the service charges very high!) within securely gated grounds. Sitting on the terrace in the evenings you can take-in not just the array of twinkling lights but also the wonderful aromas of nearby pines, jasmin and other prolific plants in almost perfect peace and quiet.

The View is every bit as advertised
The apartment makes a perfect base for exploring the Cote d' Azur. It's well equipped and very comfortable. My only caveat is to make sure you pick up the right access equipment at check in. It needs to be the remote as described in the instructions, not the little black disc that we got. The disc opens the gate and the front door but not the garage. And it requires getting out of the car to use it. Inconvenient, but it didn't spoil our stay. And then there's that view...
Yes, it was a shame that the fob used to remotely open the gate and garage were not available. We have now sourced a couple of extra fobs to ensure that when one goes missing there will be adequate replacements. Despite this we are glad you were able to enjoy your time and of course the view which first attracted us to the apartment. Jim
We have stayed in this apartment many times now and always find it just fabulous and inspiring alongside it always being comfortable, clean and well equipped for our family holiday. The location is perfect for exploring the whole Cote D'Azur and the view is literally breathtaking. I wish I could wake up and breakfast to that view everyday! Thanks you Jim and Patricia for a wonderful stay.
Fabulous view, generous private balcony, south facing.
Lovely light, spacious apartment in secured private grounds. Warm and comfortable, tastefully decorated with everything we needed. Quiet location at the end of the road. Although up a steep hill, there are regular buses, if, like us you choose not to hire a car. Plenty of steps down to the town. Good local shops for essentials within walking distance up the hill. We would happily stay here again.
Unbelievable view, beautiful village
The view is even better than the pictures indicate, as crazy as that seems. Villefranche-sur-mer is a great place to explore the region - it's calm and quiet, yet minutes from Nice, Monaco, and lots of other great places. The apartment is quiet, comfortable, and flooded with sunlight. Eating on the balcony was extremely memorable, and we did it at every opportunity. The building is near the top of a fairly significant hill if you're walking to and from the village, but there's a market nearby at the top of the hill, and another one a short drive away, so it was never a problem. Julie was very helpful in getting us situated.
5 STAR ***** Heaven
I have read somewhere, this view is in the top 5 best views in the world. After my 'fourth' visit here. I can assure you, it is MY No.1. Believe me, sitting on the balcony here in this apartment, you drift off into another zone. A place of peace and tranquility. It is truly wonderful. You have the peace as the busy people are buzzing about below, you can watch them for hours but only hear noise if you make it. Or, ok, you can hear the odd Ferrari or Maserati zooming about the winding roads but that's acceptable :-) I've said this before, and it never changes, the grounds of this apartment are beautiful, immaculate and secure. The parking facility/private garage is a bonus. Drive in, park up with the lift right next to garage straight up to your door. Completely spoiled you want for nothing. The good thing I've noticed also is, you nearly always have a beautiful blue sky and coming from the N'E' England that's like gold, it really does make you feel good. We all have stress in our lives and this place makes you feel on top of the world by the time you have to go home. We drive here, it takes us 2.5 days and it's worth every mile driven. Ah well, for the moment back to work to save up for our next trip here and, to putting the Lotto on so one day I can make Jim an offer he can't refuse :-) Many thanks Jim & Patrica for sharing your amazing apartment. To anyone reading this message - BOOK IT NOW, you won't regret it. (see my other reviews too)
Fabulous apartment and stunning views
My husband and I had a wonderful stay in this apartment. It is a v spacious and smart one bedroom, with a well equipped kitchen and beautiful views from the balcony. The area is lovely, with an excellent local food market in Nice. We are planning to return in 2015!
The Cote d'Azur retains all of its long recognised allure, combining modern luxury with belle epoch and old world charm. Steep mountains fall precipitously into deep and enticing azur seas that provide a haven for all forms of watersports and attract yachts of all sizes and description. There are safe and clean beaches with splendid restaurants having tables at which you can almost get your feet wet in the gently lapping waves. Mountain and coastal walks provide a wonderful way to explore this region that must still rank as one the most beautiful in Europe. Picturesque Villefranche sur Mer has from the 2nd century BC oscillated between French and Italian control. Its architecture reflects this rich and varied history, as does its culture and cuisine. It has one of the most sheltered natural harbours on the south coast of France and consequently provides a popular stopping off point for visiting cruise ships and shelter for visiting yachtsmen, which is how I first discovered its charm. Other Activities: Provides easy access to the various sporting events, such as the Monaco Grand Prix and sailing regattas, and to a multitude of cultural events. Ski: The alpine ski fields are a relatively short drive north of Nice. Buses run regularly from Central Nice and it is feasible to enjoy daily sortee to the ski slopes.
