Spacious wooden house in a 2000 m2 tropical garden, surrounded by fruit trees and many flowers. Besides the fruit you can eat, also enjoy the birds and butterflies that are attracted by the fruits. We protect our fruit trees because they are difficult to find.
Beautiful gardens, and very pleasant setting. Comfortable and clean. Good homely relationship.

Minimum rental: 2 nights
My family of 4 rented this house for 4 nights after staying for 5 nights in another home in Puerto Viejo. When we arrived the owner met us and showed us around the house and explained how things worked. The house itself is nice although some of the fixtures and amenities could use some repair or replacement. The boys enjoyed the pool.
During the evening our impression of the home changed. Before heading upstairs to bed we captured 2 cockroaches in the downstairs bathroom and disposed of them outside. My boys stayed part of the night in the only bedroom with a door and contains the upstairs washroom (that had an unpleasant smell to it). They stayed in this room because it was the only room that had two beds. All night we could hear scratching and bumping coming from the wall the separates the bathroom from the bedroom and my sons reported bats flying around the room. Needless to say we moved the boys to another room and closed the door of the bedroom. In addition to this there were dogs barking and car horns going off throughout the night. Nobody had a good sleep. The next morning I emailed the owner about animal activity in the house and she asked if we had the shutters closed and seemed surprised that there would be animals in the house. I told her we had the shutters closed all night. Since she lives close she came by to talk about it. When I mentioned what we heard and saw she confessed that there were bats in the wall and said that there was nothing she could do about it.
My wife and I agreed that if we were to enjoy the remainder of our vacation and be well rested we could not stay here knowing there were bats in the house. We found a new place to stay on Airbnb and met with the owner to tell her that we were leaving a that if we had known about the bats we would have never have rented the house. She did not apologize for not disclosing that information. She seemed surprised and was sorry we decided to leave. She made no mention of compensating us for our losses.
Our stay here was a blemish on our vacation as a whole and I would caution others who are considering renting this property to not be lured in by the pool.
This home has two sort of finished rooms with walls that almost go all of the way up with queen beds and one toddler bed not a twin bed. The 3rd "bedroom" is not a room as it only has 1/2 walls around the staircase. There are no doors on two of the bedrooms and the one with the toddler bed has a bathroom with walls that don't go all the way up and no door! There is NO WAY 7 adults can stay in this house!
There is no hot water in the house! The refrigerater does not keep cool. The fans do not keep the house cool or even barable.
The house is located to far from town or the beach. In short we could only stay one night because it was to late to find some thing else. We paid for 7 days and only stayed one night. Doris never offered to return any of the money even though there was no way the house could accommodate 7 people!
If you are going to Costa Rica don't take a chance by renting from an individual find a company and make sure the pictures accuracitly depict the house!!
This property is lovely and rustic with a great swimming pool to cool off in after a hot day in the national parks. The kitchen is well equipped and Doris is very welcoming. Lucky the dog is very friendly!
On arrival in Cahuita, we were met off the shuttle bus by owner Doris, who gave us a quick tour of the town, pointing out the attractions/amenities.
We arrived at the house and were introduced to another "guest", Lucky, a neighbourhood dog...more about him later.
The house is surrounded by a beautiful garden containing plenty of trees & shrubbery which makes it a perfect place to relax. Spacious & well equipped accommodation, it contained everything we needed & more. As well as what is in the property description there is also plenty of towels, linen, safe for your valuables & for those technically minded, WiFi is included.
Main part of the town & beaches are approximately a mile/15 minute walk so although we walked into town for dinner most evenings, being able to spend most of the hot days, lazing around the pool was a huge bonus and most welcome.
Now more about Lucky, a lovely natured dog who spends most of his time hanging out a Casa Magdalena. He added to the enjoyment of our stay and will be one of our enduring memories of our time in Cahuita. So much so that we decided we'd like to spread the word about him and set up a facebook page "Lucky Needs Love".
In summary, we had a wonderful 9 days at Casa Magdalena and can highly recommend it as a place to stay if intending on travelling to the Caribbean coast.
The house was a relaxed place to be. It was nice that it wasn't too fancy as we could therefore make ourselves at home.
It was lovely to be able to take a dip in the pool, lounge on the wonderfully comfortable sofa, read and generally relax.
It was further from the beach than we had visualised, but was a great base to go out from on trips if we wanted to or just stay around and chill out.
We spent 3 weeks in Casa Magdalena in May 2013. We had a wonderful time here.
During this one-year trip around the world, we stayed in a lot of places and this one was the best!
The house is beautiful. So is the garden. Because it’s all built in wood, we really felt comfortable and had a peaceful feeling. The house is very well equipped, the rooms are big and with the mosquitos fans, it’s gorgeous. We had a few rainy days but it was not a problem because there is plenty of space here!
The pool was a nice surprise for us because it wasn’t build when we booked. And it was perfect. Big enough so adults can swim, but not too deep so our three children can well play, even the youngest (2 years old).
The neighbours (and their animals !) can be a little noisy, but it is not that annoying. The children could have their nap on the afternoon.
There is all that we can need by walking distance.
The beach was a little bit far for us because we have young children, but you can easily reach the see in 15 min walk.
Doris, you are a very nice host, very thoughtful , we wish you all the best.
