Romantic Riviera Villa- Petite villa w/ stunning views and terrance

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,184 sq. ft.
Property type villa
Minimum Stay 5 - 30 nights

About the property

Renovated 2 bedroom/ 2 bath plus office, sleeps 4-5

This petite and romantic villa is perched on the lush hillside of Villefranche-sur-Mer on a quiet street, just a 5-10 minute walk to the Old Town (although admittedly easier going down the hill than up it!). Each room's French doors open fully to the terrace, offering panoramic views of the entire bay of Villefranche, the colorful buildings and terracotta rooftops of the Old Town, and beyond to Cap Ferrat. You can lounge in the sun all day long, as the outdoor space is equipped with a dining area, gas bbq, outdoor speakers, and cushioned chaise lounges. There are lots of fresh herbs in the garden to use for cooking. The interior has been newly remodeled and decorated with lovely antiques, beautiful artwork, and offers everything you need, including great beds and linens, WiFi, phone/fax, and Sky TV. This is truly a place for a quiet, relaxing, romantic getaway.

About the area: Villefranche-sur-Mer is a traditional Niçoise fishing village dating back to 1295 and anchored by two cosmopolitan cities on either side: Nice to the west and Monaco to the east. One could not speak about Villefranche without exclaiming its physical beauty. Surrounding its large, natural (and world famous) bay are cliffs and steep hillsides, brimming with olive and citrus trees, Mediterranean pines, and bougainvillea flowering plants. This lush vegetation meets the water’s edge, where the shades of blue are as dazzling as a sapphire necklace. The bay of Villefranche is surrounded by two of the most beautiful Caps in the Mediterranean: Cap Ferrat and Cap de Nice. These stunning limestone peninsulas- sprinkled with luxurious villas and lavish gardens- protect and embrace our bay. Amidst all of this is the charming village, hugging the coastline with colorful buildings. During a stroll through the maze-like streets of the Old Town, you will see beautiful balconies decorated with potted plants, fresh laundry flapping in the sea breeze, and hear the sounds of church bells and music wafting through the corridors. And of course, what description of Villefranche would be complete without mentioning the boating scene! Watching the comings and goings- from cruise ships to yachts to fishing boats- could be a full time occupation!

There is no shortage of things to do during your stay! And we are always happy to make recommendations. That said, part of the pleasure of being here is taking in the lifestyle of the village and the area: getting up and going for a walk or swim at the beach, shopping at the fresh markets (on Wednesdays and Saturdays), sitting on your balcony and admiring the beautiful scenery, exploring the village and all of its little quarters... Guests frequently come with a long list of all the things they will do, and then a couple of days into the trip, they decide to reduce the list and just enjoy the lifestyle.

We own six beautiful apartments in the Old Town and one villa set atop the hillside. If you're looking for a special home away from home, please check out our website- and choose the perfect fit for you! All of our properties offer the amenities and conveniences you expect and appreciate, including WiFi, Sky TV with English channels in addition to French television, free international calling to many locations worldwide, thoughtfully designed kitchens for those who love to cook, washing machines, dishwashers, and high-quality queen-sized beds with lovely linens. And of course, balconies or terraces with exquisite views, potted flowers, and delicious herbs. As the owner of Riviera Experience, I take great pride in my properties (which are all owned and managed solely by me) and in making sure my guests have an unforgettable stay.

You do not need a car but you should be aware that there are quite a few stairs to get from the villa to the village- about 300 to the top of the village and another 200 to the waterfront. You can also walk the street which eliminates all the steps, but the walk is a bit longer. Most people like the walk either way (and it's a great form of exercise when you're enjoying all of this French food!). However, if you want to rent a car, there is plenty of parking on the street in front of the property. Alternatively, there are taxis to bring you up the hill and a village mini bus. Two of the nearby grocery stores deliver. The villa is ideally suited for a couple who have occasional guests, two couples, or a couple with one or two children (older children are better as the terrace is not that safe for young children). It is petite (110 sq. meters), as it is half a villa, with its own private entrance, terrace, garden, etc. Although close to everything, it is very secluded and private.

A pearl of Villefranche

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at La Villa every summer starting 2013, and we booked another stay in 2016. The villa represents a combination of the absolute comfort, magnificent view of the Villefranche bay and an extraordinary hospitality of its owners, a wonderful couple Ricardo and Shelley. The villa is fully equipped as well as it is furnished and decorated with a great taste. The owners keep investing into it by constant improvements. Ricardo and Shelley are extremely helpful and responsive to any kind of request that the guests might have. We treat the villa like our second home, and we always look forward to coming back again, because it is a true paradise.

Everything as advertised

  • 5 of 5

The view from this villa was breathtaking. It was often hard to look away. We were mesmerized. The photos are for real. Everything as advertised. The accomodations were very comfortable and tastefully done. We were able to manage the bus system quite easily to tour neighboring towns like Monaco, Nice and Eze. Just living the "village lifestyle" was a pleasure. We would take to short walk to the Col every morning to stop at the butcher, baker, etc. All were very friendly and patient with those of us with only basic French language skills.

The steps to the basse corniche were not a problem. In fact, for the view, I would gladly climb the steps again and again. The exercise allowed us to eat and drink to our heart's content and not gain a pound.

Shelley was very gracious will all of our questions both before and during our trip. The information she provided in the villa really told us everything we needed to know. Now, I just have to figure out when we can manage to visit again.

No Better Place!!!

  • 5 of 5

The villa is divine—immaculate, in excellent condition, very tastefully furnished with quality linens, a cook’s kitchen, and a 180-degree view of the Mediterranean from a flower-bedecked terrace where you’ll surely want to take most of your meals. Despite what you may think, it is ideally located for grocery shopping and touring the Riviera, not to mention for sublime beauty and peaceful bliss—so wonderful to return to after a hard day of touring. Down 330 steps is the Basse Corniche where the buses run frequently. Down from there, almost to the waterfront, is the train station. The bus is a 7-minute walk, the train a 20-minute. From the Basse Corniche it’s another 15-minute walk to the waterfront by stairs or road. We did most of our grocery shopping along the Basse Corniche when getting off the bus after a day of touring. My husband and I are 68 and had no problems with the stairs. The stairs have low rises and many interim landings. All one has to do is to rest briefly on 3-4 of the landings to let those muscles re-oxygenate on the way up. We did this daily with groceries in tow. Now for Shelley because she is as much essential to the enjoyment of your vacation as the villa itself. Before we ever arrived, Shelley very promptly answered in great detail all my questions. I felt very comfortable booking with her. Our inbound plane was delayed 4 hours, but because Shelley and the taxi driver monitored the flight, both were still there to greet us as promised, and because of our late arrival, Shelley, knowing the only activity we’d planned for arrival day was grocery shopping, graciously and at inconvenience to her, took us by car to the Col shops where we loaded up. On the day of our departure, the taxi drivers and trains were on strike, and the buses didn’t start early enough for us to make our flight. Shelley offered to take us to the airport. Shelley will be there for you before and during your stay. The last thing she said to us before she left us on our own that first day was, "Call me if you have questions or problems, I’m your support system." She absolutely was. We toured from Antibes to Carnoles over 8 days, visiting many thrilling sites. Take as many of the glorious costal walks as you can, and bring your suit because the scintillating, turquoise water is irresistible off these walks and beaches. The Riviera and the villa made for a wonderful time. It was deliriously delightful! We’ll be back!

Stairway to Paradise !!!

  • 5 of 5

If you've ever longed or ached for the villa lifestyle made famous by rock stars, hollywood starlets and billionaire business tycoons, this immaculate, tastefully decorated villa with incomparable sea views will do the trick -- and then some! It's swanky yet comfy, an enchanting bouganvillea-bathed private hideway in the hills, with a lovely marriage of indoor/outdoor living space. My wife and I, plus my 9-year-old son and my 70s-something mom, called it home for a week in late June. Shelley, the owner, is not only charming, but delivers on all her promises. And the property, which looks beautiful in the photos, is more beautiful in person and shows like a French runway model in her prime. The villa is up in the hills, a short 5-minute walk down to town, cafes and beach. Heading back up the hill you can hail a taxi, hop on the local shuttle (only 1 euro) that picks up near the beach and in the old town, or you can walk up the nearly 300 steps (thus the tagline "Stairway to Paradise!") My son ran up the steps. My wife used it as her workout. We used the villa as our home base. It's a perfect location for sidetrips. A 10-minute bus ride finds you in Cap-Ferrat, the swanky beach town with a cafe-lined harbor and killer views and coastline hiking trails. A few minutes further East finds you in Monaco, where you can see the changing of the guard at Prince Rainier's palace. A 40-minute train ride to the west delivers you to Cannes, home of the film festival. But, for me, the villa and the small-village charm of Villefranche sur Mer is the place to be. My son used the villa's "office" as his hangout, tapping away on his wireless i-Touch. We all watched World Cup soccer on the Direct TV. We sipped wine and nibbled on bread and cheese on the outdoor patio overlooking the sea. In town, we went to the local butcher to get freshly sliced bacon, plump chops, which we grilled on the patio. At the beach, we lunched on pan bagnats, gelato and Kronenbourg beers from the beachside cafes. At night, we dined out at cafes lining the harbor, and ones hidden along narrow passageways in the old town. My mom never quite could find anything else in France to live up to the wonderful villa and the views. My son is already talking about getting back to the Villefranche beach so he can sit atop his favorite rock in the sea. After 7 days in VF, the shopkeepers were treating my son like a local. My wife and I plan a return trip next year. Shelley says she'll have the champagne chilled.

Shelley's Villa Splendido

  • 5 of 5

When visiting the French Riviera, you really can’t do better than Shelley’s Romantic Riviera Villa located in the quaint, picturesque village of Villefranche Sur Mer. We were considering staying at the exquisite Five Star Grand Hotel Du Cap Ferrat which is located about 10 minutes away by car, but we ultimately chose the Villa apartment because we liked the idea of being above the village rather than isolated on the Cape. We definitely made the right decision! Villefranche is the perfect base location – it’s centrally located, with Beaulieu Sur Mer, Cap Ferrat, Monte Carlo and the Italian Border in one direction, and Nice, Antibes, Cannes and St. Tropez in the other. There is a train station about a twenty-minute walk from the Villa for day trips to Cannes, Antibes, Nice, Monaco, etc. The bus system is also very efficient and also a pleasant way to see the area. As France’s most visited cruise ship port of call, Villefranche also boasts an impressive number of quality restaurants - all serving the freshest seafood and produce imaginable.

The Romantic Riviera Villa is absolutely charming! It was clean and nicely outfitted. The view from the large, beautifully landscaped terrace is unparalleled. The kitchen is sufficiently stocked for preparing meals to enjoy on the veranda. Shelley was incredibly helpful, and a pure delight. A nicer, more hospitable host I doubt you will find.

The only possible downside to the Villa is that there is a price to be paid for the breathtaking views; the 300+ stairs down to the village are formidable. We enjoyed the exercise (for the most part), but after a meal and a few glasses of Rose, they weren’t always a welcome sight. Fortunately, taxis are readily available down by the waterfront restaurants. And of course if you have a rental car, the stairs are a non-issue.

All in all, Shelley and her Romantic Riviera Villa really helped make our two weeks in the Riviera a most memorable experience. Thanks again, Shelley!

Beautiful views, wonderful ambience!

  • 5 of 5

I met up with an old friend here for a week in June and we couldn't have been happier with the villa, Shelley's service and the outstanding views and location. Shelley is the perfect owner - helpful, welcoming, informative and a really lovely person! The villa itself is gorgeous - extremely well fitted out, comfortable beds, quaint, quiet and so French! I would highly recommend it to anyone considering a holiday in Villefrance (which is a very authentic Riviera village) and suggest trips to Cannes for shopping, St Paul de Vence for atmosphere (try taking the local bus - lots of fun), Beaulieu sur mer and Eze. I would so love to return to Villefrance one day (before too long) and would definitely stay here again.

The villa is ideally located just above the Old Town in the magnificent hillside of Villefranche-sur-Mer, which offers spectacular views. There is a very nice public stairwell that leads all the way to the Old Town and waterfront, about 300 steps. Villefranche is nestled between Nice and Monaco (10 minutes from Vieux Nice, 20-25 minutes from Monaco). Although surrounded by a diverse, exciting cosmopolitan environment, it is still an authentic Niçoise village. I know, I live here, and it's hard to believe it is still that way-- wonderful! Within close and easy access are Antibes, Cannes, St. Paul de Vence, Grasse, Mougins, and just a bit further, St. Tropez, Ramatuelle, Bormes les Mimosas, or Aix, Arles, Avignon and all the villages of Provence. Take a ferry from Nice Port to Corsica (3 hours on the fast ferry), or head to Italy and visit Ventimiglia, San Remo, the Vallee de Roya, Portofino, Cinque Terre... But if you stay in Villefranche and the neighboring towns of Beaulieu-sur-Mer, St. Jean Cap Ferrat, Eze, and La Turbie, you'll exhaust a week or more just exploring and enjoying these lovely villages. Most of these sites are easy to access without a car. And if you are here to attend the French language institute, Institut Français, it is a 10 minute walk away.
