About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 4.5 Baths, (Sleeps 9-13)

One of the nicest Gulf front homes in Texas. You can walk out to the water, drive out on the beach or watch the waves from the deck while sitting in the hot tub!!

Awesome Gulf-front, three story, fully-furnished home with TWO master suites! Ideal for large or multi-family gatherings at the beach. Direct, panoramic ocean views and bay views from front & back decks. Watch both the beautiful sunrises and sunsets! Located on a Gulf-front lot in this new beach resort subdivision. Watch the waves rolling in while sitting in the hot tub on the third floor covered deck - it doesn't get any better than this! See our family beachhouse website link for more photos (casathomae).

Located in Port Aransas, a great little beach and fishing resort community that is growing fast, as more and more people are 'discovering' it. Great beaches (you can even drive on), quaint harbor area and restaurants, superb fishing (either in the bay or deep sea), and lots of dolphins! Newport Dunes, a recently built Arnold Palmer Signature Golf course, is only about a mile away!

Port Aransas is at the north end of Mustang Island, just off the coast of Corpus Christi - about two and a half hours driving from San Antonio, four hours drive from Austin or Houston, and seven and a half hours from Dallas. It's about 2-3 hours less driving time than going all the way down to South Padre, less commercial, and the beaches are just as nice!

Corpus Christi also has a nice, mid-sized airport served by major carriers (including American, Southwest), and the house is only about a 40 minute drive from the airport. Access to the island is via causeway (south end of the island) or a short, five-minute ferry ride (north end of the island).

Looking for a great place for a family gathering or vacation that you'll want to make an annual tradition? This is the spot. Beautiful, relaxing, great accommodations, and in a great little area that has everything you need close enough, without being in an overcrowded 'touristy' location!

About Vince Thomae

Susan & Vince - This is our vacation, family gathering, and future retirement home! We love it here!!

Vince Thomae purchased this house in 2005

Why Vince Thomae chose Port Aransas

Family owned and managed (not handled by a property management company) so we can be more selective about our guests. (No college Spring Breakers, bachelor parties, etc.) Most of our guests are families and return year after year.

What makes this house unique

The expansive view of the gulf is amazing, even when you aren't sitting in the hot tub!!

Bigger than you think!

  • 4 of 5

I just want to start with the place is HUGE! Bigger than pictures make it look! Very happy with all the living area. We had multi families during our stay and we weren't crowded at all. Beautiful third view bathroom. And the view from every window on the back side of the house was great. loved that each floor had its own thermostat. And the kitchen table for a feast! Awesome outdoor seating for enjoying the weather. Driving on the beach was fun. And nice quant quiet town. We were very pleased with the place. Thank you!

Beautiful Beach House That Needs Attention

  • 3 of 5

When we first arrived, we were *WOWED* by the SPACE, luxury, and close proximity to the beach. We soon realized some problems, however. My wife spent hours cleaning the greasy kitchen and crumb-covered dining table, before we could use them. The refrigerator door was filled to capacity with past guests' old open bottles and jars of ???. Who would eat or feed their children a stranger's old half-eaten ice cream?! Plus, the microwave didn't work; it only displayed "food", when started.

There wasn't enough hot water on the 3rd floor. It was intermittently hot, then cold. (In the master bathroom, my wife had to get into the tub to close the drain, before filling, because it's unreachable.)

Internet access was extremely slow. We were unable to view any online video. One would expect speeds of 10 to 100 times faster. The following are results from

Download speed: 0.23 Mbps

Upload speed: 0.11 Mbps

The outdoor shower connection leaked badly.

The outdoor hose, by the shower, needs to be replaced.

The hot tub, which we were told had just been serviced, was a "warm tub," never reaching a temperature higher than 96°.

IF these things were corrected, most of which would be simple to do, our family would be thrilled to return, each October.

Owner's Response: While we haven't heard back from our direct, detailed response to this guest, an abbreviated version is as follows: My wife and I arrived at our home shortly after this guest departed, and could not duplicate the most serious items listed. For example, the microwave worked just fine (it's only about 5 months old) plus we have a spare one right there in the pantry. The third floor has its own water heater which just serves the master suite and kitchen, and there are no issues with hot water. On occasion, we get a call from a guest who can't figure out a modern designed shower lever, and that is no doubt the case here. The hot tub temperature was reading 101 when we arrived (which is the default temperature). The only time the temp normally drops is after the cover has been left off for extended periods of time. My wife is particular about her hot tub and it is serviced weekly by a local pool/spa service. We immediately noticed the hose, as it was all twisted and knotted up and laying in the driveway when we arrived. Untangling and rewinding it helped it and the outdoor shower faucet leak. Regarding the Internet service, we don't make any claims as to its speed. In fact, we find both the Internet service and cell service to be sketchy on the island. As far as stuff in the fridge or freezer, many of our guests are repeat/regulars who do often leave condiments etc. My wife and/or the cleaning folks periodically throw out anything that looks questionable. And speaking of cleaning, all looked good upon on arrival, but because things can be missed, we refunded the cleaning fee, In summary, we agree that these things could be easily addressed, and wished this guest had simply called us while there instead of writing after the visit. Our phone Humber for any assistance needed is clearly listed on the same confirmation sent out with the keybox access code. So, it had to be in hand. In summary, we feel bad that this guest endured things that could have quickly and easily been resolved with a phone call. The Thomaes

Fantastic beach home!

  • 5 of 5

Truly a special home... The kitchen is on the third floor and overlooks the ocean! We had such a great time being able to enjoy those views while preparing/eating meals. Short walk to the beach... Two master bedrooms... Awesome ground floor areas to "de-sand" after the beach. I haven't found anything else like it in my searches for beach rentals. The owner was prompt to answer every question before and during our stay. We are an extended family of 13 people ranging from 7 years old up to Grandma... And it was a fantastic getaway!

Nice Home

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful stay at this great house. We liked the roomy kitchen when cooking family meals & thoroughly enjoyed sitting out on the 3rd floor deck & enjoying the ocean breeze/view when we weren't at the beach. The dining area & bar stool seating made for ample room during mealtime. Everything was very nice & homey feeling at this rental. We had a fun-filled time while in Port Aransas & really enjoyed our stay & plan to return.
