Incomparable Keys experience!
Very private, charming, Atlantic oceanfront house directly on beach. The most beautiful, unspoiled spot in the Keys. Many coconut palms and native trees. One-hundred-sixty-five foot dock with chickee and mooring whips for flats boat. 3 Kayaks and 2 bikes included. Adjacent to Great White Heron National Wildlife Refuge, on a Turtle nesting beach with Key Deer and many birds. Swim off the dock in the reef protected, calm water or just sit on the dock under the chickee and enjoy the incredible view and ocean breeze. Home is very tropical and open with porches, french doors, ceiling fans, and a wood burning fireplace. DirecTV, tivo, DVD players for 2 high def TV's, wireless internet, Long Beach is a dead-end road with no traffic and is great for walking and biking.
Great flats fishing: tarpon, bonefish, permit, snapper, grouper. Offshore: sailfish, wahoo, dolphin. Fabulous snorkeling and diving at near by patch reefs, Looe Key, and Little Palm Island. Look for lobster and stone crabs. Big Pine Shoal, reef 6 miles out. Back Country waters easily accessible from Spanish Channel. Boat rentals at end of Long Beach. Bahai Honda State Park with its famous beach is 3 miles away.
A quiet, tropical paradise yet close enough to drive to Key West, with its restaurants, nightlife, and Historic Old Town, for a fun evening out.

We are both attorneys and met in law school at Florida State University. We live in Coral Gables, FL which is about 3 hours from our vacation home on Big Pine Key. We first went to Key West on our honeymoon. When our two sons were young we rented vacation houses all over the island chain for a month or two every summer. Our boys learned to swim and dive here and loved the fishing and boating and still do. We always enjoyed our stays in the Keys and looked for a house to buy for several years. We found our dream home in 1993 and have never had a boring day there.
richard bennett purchased this house in 1993
Because we had rented vacation homes througout the Keys we knew what each area had to offer. We prefered oceanside rather than gulfside because the ocean breeze keeps it much cooler. We wanted a home on a secluded beach directly on the ocean and with a dock where we could keep our boat. Not an easy combination to find. We didn't want to live in Key West but to be near enough so we could spend a day or evening there and have a short drive home. Key West is always fun and interesting and we love the historic archtecture. When we found Long Beach we thought is was perfect and made an offer the first day we saw our house. We have had it now for 16 years and still can't believe how lucky we are whenever we are there.
We swim, boat, fish ,kayak, look for lobster---or just relax under the chikee at the end of the 165' dock with underwater light, or lie in the hammock on the beach and watch the deer and water birds come and go. You can swim and fish right off the dock. The reef is 6 miles out and Looe Key is the best snorkeling destination in the Keys. The back country islands await on the other side of No Name Bridge. Long Beach Road is great for walking or biking, and canoeing in Coupon Bight just across the road from our house is always eventful. You can kayak in the ocean as the water is protected by the reef and is often calm. Coupon Bight is a stone's through away. The beach at nearby Bahia Honda State Park is long and wide and always fun to explore. Then there is Key West. It is only a 30 min. drive and the drive on the Overseas Highway is beautiful. There are excellent restaurants, museums, art galleries, and of course lots of bars on Duval St. Its always crowded and fun but you will be glad to get back to the tranquility of your private, beachside home.
Our two stays there were some of our best vacation moments.
My husband and I stayed here for the whole month of December, 2013. Several family members visited us during the month, and everybody had a good time in this well-equipped, spacious home. Pelicans swooped and dove for fish all around the dock all day, providing quite a show, and the pretty key deer visited often. We used the house as a base from which to explore the Keys, and spent two nights in Key West. Our reaction to Key West was a bit "meh," mainly because we don't care for crowds and noise, so we were happy to retreat back to Big Pine Key and unwind again.
Richard is a fine landlord, very helpful and hands-on when necessary. After we left early in January for our drive up north, we had gotten back to the mainland when we realized we had forgotten our computer bag at the house. It was one of those "I thought you had it!" "And I thought YOU had it!" moments. A frantic call to Richard, who was kind enough to calm us down and offered to send the backpack to us. Thank you, Richard!
We stayed at the property with a bunch of pre-teens and teens and totally loved it. What the kids liked most was of course the wildlife: key deer roaming the property at all times (especially BBQ time), Hermit crabs and regular large crabs crisscrossing the beach in the morning, the beautiful but hard to catch iguanas, the barracudas and nurse sharks literally hanging out under the pier and many more.
The property is large and quiet giving you plenty of opportunity to relax. We BBQed most of the time and tried some of the local restaurants (can't avoid the No Name--which was great). We of course did a couple excursion to Key West and even a date night.
We rented a boat at the local Marina for 4 days and that was a lot of fun. Highly recommend it. Fishing, snorkeling, swimming, tubing all around Big Pine key. Bahia Honda State Park was great. We did not do Looe Key because of the wind. By the way, the beach would have been perfect for kiting or windsurfing that week because of the steady (maybe unusual) 15kt wind. My son enjoyed the rental SUP board as well.
The house is huge and well equipped. Downstairs is almost like a separate apartment. The beds are comfortable.
Amazing property for a fun family vacation!
Wow, what a rare find!
We enjoyed over a month of Bliss at this great home.
We brought our boat and jet ski and launched just over the bridge, it was very convenient to tie them up to the dock in that back yard.
Looe Key marine sanctuary was a short boat ride to some of the best snorkeling and diving in the US. We got to feed Nassau grouper and saw many species. I have to say that Looe Key is a great spot for families to snorkel and dive as the reef is as shallow as 2ft all the way to 50ft.
The back yard to this rental home is your own private beach with shaded coconut palms and a hammock. The Friendly key deer kept the children busy most of the stay. The house was equipped with all of the comforts of home and the layout offered space and privacy for two families.
There were many local restaurants and tiki bars to choose from, I would highly recommend the (No Name Pub) on big pine key for the best pizza and family dinning casual style you can get. This restaurant is covered with signed dollar bills
and is very affordable. Check their peak hours, they get pretty busy.
My wife took the kids to swim with the dolphins at the theatre of the sea, kids loved it.
We spent a few days in key west which is always a great time.
Overall this trip was a big hit!
The home is perfect for secluded relaxation beachside under coconut palms or
adventuring out and exploring the lower keys.
Thank you, The Dubay's
This home and property is amazing! We had the most wonderful stay here. I hated to leave! Richard is very helpful and proud of his property. The home is well cared for and gorgeous. The wildlife was everywhere from a hermit crab walking along the dock to the Key Deer paying you a visit. I loved seeing all the water critters including crabs, fish, stingrays, sharks, and a huge tarpon! This is probably one of the best homes you can rent in the Keys. I will come back next year for sure! Thanks again Richard for your hospitality!!
Can't say enough about how perfect this vacation turned out to be! The property was everything it was advertised to be, and then some. Truly private and peaceful, yet close to everything. Owner was incredibly generous and helpful, and the house was stocked with more amenities than we ever expected. Location was great, we were able to see Key Deer, Osprey, Ibis, Pelicans, Porpoise, Rays, and much more from the beach and dock. We caught lobster several times right off the beach and the hubby caught Barracuda and Bonnethead shark from the chickee. We would love to stay here again, and would definately recommend it to friends and family!
