About the property

WELCOME TO SERENDIPITY!

This is an amazing home, designed by Michael Barron-Wike AIA, to maximize the views and still fit into the hillside. Serendipity has the Craftsman look, inside and out. The first impression when entering is of an wonderful combination of windows and wood; 34 Anderson windows, five skylights, Brazilian Cherry flooring, maple custom cabinets, high open beam ceilings, rich Cedar trim, and dark Oak Mission furniture. The great room provides breathtaking views. Looking through the huge picture window, one can see the Gualala River, the beach, the Gualala Point Cliffs, and the crashing waves.

The house is a feast for all the senses. The ocean sound is always present, birds of all types fly by, and seals play below. We have seen whales relax below us for hours. Mid-April to mid-May is the peak whale season. The mother and baby grey whales hug the coast on their way north from Baja. They love to stop and rinse the barnacles off in the fresh water of the river mouth below our house. The last few years we have seen Humpback whales in the fall and Bald Eagles in the spring.

Although you cannot see the town, all of this is a short walk from many wonderful restaurants, shops, galleries, and stores. Most of our guests choose to eat at home, however. The view cannot be beat, and the kitchen is beautiful - Granite counters, top end appliances, and fully-equipped including ice cream and bread makers.

The house was lovingly built by Gregg Warner and a many other local crafts-persons. It incorporates luxury with environmental concern. We used concrete shingle siding, composite decking, and sustainably grown hardwood flooring. We installed a four KW solar panel below the house, as well as a tankless water heater, and other energy efficient appliances. Serendipty was featured on the Soroptimist's Coastal Home Architectural Tour.

Every step through the house produces another view, inside, or outside on either of the two decks. The two master bedrooms are on opposite ends of the house for maximum privacy for two couples, and the kids will love sleeping in the great room, either on the fold-out sofa with a plush comfort sleeper mattress, or the 18 foot wide window seat. The entertainment center is stocked with an LED HDTV, DVDs and the drawers in the window seat are filled with games and toys. The spa captures river and ocean views, stunning at sunset.

We now offer free wireless internet connection, as well as unlimited free U.S calls, so stay an extra day and work from the deck. Until you start yelling when you see one, nobody has to know you have been whale watching while working.

As you can tell, we love this house, and judging from the glowing comments in our guest book, you will too.

'The most beautiful environment we've been in for years...'

'My husband's a General Contractor, and he could find no flaws...'

'Congratulations to the owners, the architect and the builders in bringing this vision to reality...'

Review Text: "We love Northern California. Mendocino has been our

favorite for years - so we were hesitant when we decided to venture South to

Gualala. But, we must admit this place is absolutely a gem. Spectacular

Views, Lots of Sunshine, Abundant Wildlife and the quality of this

home is tough to beat anywhere.

Like others here, we stay in lots of homes when traveling and

traditionally stay in the very best we can find. But, 'Serendipity' is a

masterpiece of fine living. Secluded, yet easily accessible to all this area

offers. Fine Shopping, Great Massages, Dining, Parks, Canoeing and

Beautful Beaches. Wineries are all over the area and you'll love a glass in

the relaxing hot-tub, that like the rest of the property is well

positioned for privacy and views.

In todays world it's kinda neat to spend some time in a home powered in

part by solar energy - and realized you have sacrificed nothing in

comfort, and leave feeling a bit smarter in the process.

Ethan Allen furniture, hardwoods, granite and stone...this place is

perfect for any length of time, any time of the year.

Lastly...a vacation is hard to forget when you come home refreshed and

feeling you had made a great choice. The owners are available, helpful

and the perfect hosts - although you may never actually see them. Every

detail is perfect and the beds are to die for.

If you like the best - you'll love this place!"

Ahhh the beauty and relaxing experience

  • 5 of 5

WE love staying at Serendipity. My 4th time to visit, I keep going back for MORE! The house is a top-notch experience, very comfortable, peaceful, fully-stocked, very functional. We have seen whales right off the deck, the beautiful Eagle, and seals! Don't wait, book your stay!

Whale Sightings right off the Deck!

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful home for a perfect weekend getaway. After settling in upon arrival, we went out on the deck to enjoy the amazing views of the ocean, and the seals playing in the water right below. It only took 20 minutes for us to see whales that were migrating south come up for air!

Glass Beach is only an hour drive away and we were able to enjoy the coastal views and beautiful weather we had!

We enjoyed nights in the hot tub, food from the local town, and relaxation on the long bench seat in front of the huge windows! The house is fully equipped with everything you need which provided a hassle free weekend, and gave us time to just relax and enjoy each others company!

The Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Don't laugh.. I'm a local. Yes, I rented a home less than 5 miles from my home... for a 3 day weekend, nonetheless! But I'm a mom and I have not been away from my firstborn SINCE she was born 2.5 years ago. It was just time for me to have "me" time. I have been acquainted with this house since it's inception; I watched it be built; and I have worked the rental market in the Gualala/Sea Ranch area for over a decade... this home has had nothing but high praises from it's renters. Now I know, first hand, why. Not only does this home give you front row seats to all the winter drama of the Gualala River-mouth meeting the Pacific Ocean; but the owners have literally anticipated their guest's every need. The beds are *comfortable*, the pillows are *comfortable*! For those who love to cook - every accessory is available AND the knives are sharp! Linens are fresh and updated. Sorry - I'm going on and on like a rental agent (guilty), but I know what to look for and these owners are not just renting their home... they are hosting you to their little slice of heaven. For a 10+ year old home, it's in fabulous condition and the views/privacy/amenities cannot be beat. I had the opportunity to stay somewhere else for free for my first ever "mommy getaway'. But I knew I wanted to stay in this house. I 100% feel like I made the best choice in renting this home. On those tough mommy days through the rest of the terrible 2's I will be mentally revisiting my weekend highlights: quiet evenings out under the stars, sitting in the hot tub, listening to the outrageous storm waves crashing; sitting on the lovely window seat with the fire going... soaking up the views while reading my book and/or napping; whipping up an adult lunch (that didn't involve string cheese or grapes...lol..) to enjoy with a girlfriend. I loved my time here and I WILL be back!

Could not have been better

  • 5 of 5

What a perfectly lovely respite. This home, and I do mean home not house, was the absolutely perfect place to spend a cozy few days off the grid and away from the bay area hubbub. We loved ambling along the wild and stormy beaches, scouting for wild mushrooms, witnessing the spectacular geologic formations, gray whales spouting right off the deck, bald eagles serenely sitting at the mouth of the river. And of course the spectacular point Arena lighthouse. Though we only live two hours away and our time was limited, it was a truly spectacular holiday. The root of which actually means holy day. And that's exactly how we felt – blessed escape.

Pleasure and Peace

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I along with another couple spent some delightful days here in September. The home is beautiful, high quality and full of every amenity you might need. I like to cook, and found the kitchen well stocked with everything I needed (including a great BBQ outside). Our guests were highly impressed by how perfect everything was-the view, the layout of the house, the wonderful book of recommendations and things to do in the area, etc. They even provide a parks pass to use! We enjoyed massages, golf at Sea Ranch, Kayaking down the river, sunset views, and a great restaurant. We walked into town several times. It was such a relaxing, enjoyable trip! I also loved the window seat-a great place to take in the view as well as to read. There are books, games, a hot tub, bathrobes, etc.-everything here provides for your comfort and pleasure. Our friend had a button come off and, of course, there was a sewing kit available! We highly recommend staying at this fabulous home, and look forward to going there again ourselves. Jorjan P.
