About Aaron Wilkinson

We are a couple currently living in Peaks Island, Maine. Pam is a children's book illustrator. Rich is a retired restaurateur and music club owner.

Why Aaron Wilkinson chose East Riverside

Escaping the brutal winters of Maine, we travelled throughout the south searching for a winter escape. We fell in love the New Orleans, the music, the food, the architecture and, most of all, the people. After renovating a sprawling farmhouse in Maine, we dreamed of simplifying our life. We searched for a small, manageable, fully renovated house with two bedrooms and two baths just off of Magazine St. And on January 15, 2014, we found exactly what we were looking for. We are here for the winter. A friend, Aaron (whom we met by staying in his VRBO) provides hands on management the rest of the year

What makes this house unique

This home was completely renovated in 2014. Yet much of the architectural integrity of the hundred plus year old shotgun house

Our stay was wonderful. This home is well stocked and very well appointed. It is very convenient for shopping and dining on Magazine and getting to all points in the city. I would highly recommend this property.

Nice place, poor communication

We enjoyed the location and the home was nicely decorated and well-cared for. We tried reaching the property manager several times before our arrival with questions and did not receive a response until the day before our travel. We also had an issue with a smoke alarm battery during our stay which wasn’t addressed quickly. There’s also not a lot of information about check out. Aside from the communication, the place was great.

The house is perfect for shared space.

The property is in a great location, 1 block over from Magazine st, and a couple blocks from St Charles, where you can catch the trolley.

Loved the layout of the house, 1st floor open concept living, bedroom has private bath and exit to patio in the back . Nice area to sit and relax with a glass of wine at night or coffeee in the morning. Upper bedroom private, also with its own bath. Like to travel light so having a washer and dryer on the premises is always great.

The properrty next door was a landscaping business, looked a little more like the resting place for their excess materials.

Overall it is a great place to stay and would consider it for next year!

Well appointed, great location

We have been to New Orleans many times, staying in various locations. This is the first time we have rented a VRBO here and were not disappointed. What makes this a standout is how wonderfully decorated it is giving it a really homey feel, but also very functional. Because we drove and had a car, this location was perfect. Central and easy access to highways. More importantly, once we parked, we could walk to endless choices of restaurants, cafes and shopping. You can take the St. Charles Street car, 8 blocks away, into the French Quarter or down to Audbon Park. Or, it is under a $20 cab ride back late at night. The neighborhood is safe, but as always in NOLA, caution has to be used after dark. We look forward to staying here again.

Magazine Street is one of the world's great streets. Antiquing, design stores, coffee houses, restaurants, 3 upscale grocery stores including Whole Foods, salons, taverns, music venues, all independently owned and all within walking distance. we are located about halfway

between the French Quarter and Audubon Park.
