Live in Pennsylvania. Interests are fitness, golf, gardening, biking, Gail and I have been married for 50 + years. We have 3 grown children, 7 grand children (2 in college), and Ellie our 11 month old cockapoo.

Ken and Gail Twiford purchased this house in 1985

Why Ken and Gail Twiford chose Ocean Isle Beach

Great location. Walk to just about everything: food (eat out or cook in), shopping, water sport rentals, fishing pier. Causeway to mainland 2 blocks away.

What makes this house unique

See above. Natural canals are fun for the whole family: swim, boat, fish, sun bath, but most of all relax.

Watch the sunset on the back deck. This a treat pretty much year round. Breakfast on the front deck is nice also as the sun rises on the East end of the island or a cool drink as you watch the sun set on the rear deck.

Great location, wonderful cottage!

  • 4 of 5

Ocean Isle Beach was a gem, and this cottage was the perfect landing spot for a week of relaxation and fun with our family. We have three sons, who each brought a friend, and four adults...it was enough space for everyone.

I wasn't sold on being on the channel vs. the beach, but the channel brought more fun with fishing, swimming, and sunning happening daily right out our back door.

The cottage is well stocked, has everything you need (although I would add in a couple of laundry baskets -- it's downstairs, so lugging the laundry up and down was a challenge...and a couple of the bikes were not in working order), comfortable beds, and large porches to relax on throughout our trip.

A wonderful week, of simple and relaxing fun. If you are looking to get away and soak in the sun, and have kids who need some independence but aren't "quite" old enough to drive away, this is a fabulous location! Slushes, putt putt, arcades, all in walking distance.

Lovely place, would love to head back again! Owners were very easy to work with, gave good instructions.

Great week at Blue - Gray July 15 week

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week. Even with a couple of cloudy rainy days we had lots to do. Everything we needed was in the house. We grilled shrimp one night and also went out to the great restaurants on the Isle. It was great to have the canal to jump in and relax after a day on the beach. And we sat out in the morning and evening watching the small fish flip across the water. Everyone around there is so friendly. Thank you Ken and Gail for renting out your house. WE would love to come back again sometime.

Great Canal Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My family loved this place. A great getaway to relax on the porch and enjoy the view. So close to everything and the dock is a plus. You can kayak to it, fish, swim or just lay in the sun with a good book. It's like home when you walk in and I was totally happy. The owners are great and to share this place is a gift! Thank You Ken and Gail Twiford!

Beautiful place with so much included, and a Great environment for family bonding!

We were so pleased when we arrived at this residence. To see the doc just as you get out of your car was a very welcoming site. The house was clean and roomy. The back porch was so nice to eat breakfast or snack after a long day or even dinner. We were able to watch the children from the porch as they enjoyed the water. We took a boat cruise out to the inter coastal waterway and they picked us up right off of the doc. Their was no need for us to leave the residence our whole stay in a car, except to get grocery. We went bike riding in the evening. The neighbors were friendly. Beach walks during the day and night. At night, you can go see what are called ghost crabs on the sand. You will need to take a light because they blend in with the sand. They come out at night, because their shell is to fragile for the sunlight.

Concerts on Friday night at the Museum with a live band during the peak seasons. Our family walked the pier one evening and had ice cream at the local shop there with the arcade.

This house had all the chairs, body boards and children toys for sand play and a wagon to assist with your items you take to the beach. We had brought our own chairs and boards but had we known we would have used the ones there and saved some room in our car to bring more grocery. We just can't praise this residence enough for the joy and amenities it had to offer our family.

There are only two things I can think of as a negative during our stay. There was a playground around the corner near the museum but it is really for only children 1 to 3 years old. I have a 6 year old and she was to big for it. Also the slide was broke and there was only one small swing. I read the review about the playground and it was a selling point for me so I just wanted to point that out, but there was still so much to do anyway. Also during our stay the neighbor to the left of us had some work being done to the home. So, Monday morning started off with a saw going off on the back porch all day till time to get off work around 4, this was all week. It bothered me at first but I knew that if you have a house in this area you really can't predict when people are working on there property. I just enjoyed the back porch so much that it took some of the quite moments during my mornings and afternoon. I still plan to return in the future if residence is available. The owners were very nice and helpful. Great location and would recommend.

Clean...great location

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed staying at property...clean...plenty of kitchen amenities. The location was great. Not too far from beach. Wagon was included with with house so that was no issue. Only 2 streets from playground, which was awesome. Kids able to ride bikes down there in the evenings to play. Communication with the owners was great...very quick to answer any questions. Thanks for sharing your home
