Resort/Staff were great - Avalon PH7 was not.
We choose this unit because it had 5 bedrooms/bathrooms. The resort itself was very nice and Gulf Shores has plenty to offer. A little cool to hang out at the beach but it was beautiful to look at and the pool/beach areas were quite nice. We were very disappointed with our 'penthouse' unit. It was probably very stylish in the 1990's with it's Tommy Bahama theme - but it looked like nothing had been updated since. Everything about the place was old, worn-out and, in some cases, not really functional. Very small kitchen, very old appliances and and incredible amount of duplicate kitchenware (all old and dingy) that took up lots of room. On a positive note - the labels on the shelf were impressive... The dining room table looked great in the picture but you had to put a pillow on the chairs in order to be high enough to reach the table. Overall it was clean as long as you didn't look under the beds and pay much attention to the walls and floors. Some basic maintenance issues (burnt out light bulbs, etc.) but the response was good from the resort staff when we called. We paid a considerable amount for our 5 night stay - it was not worth it. .
Resort/Staff were great. Avalon PH7 was NOT!
We choose this unit because it had 5 bedrooms/bathrooms for our group. The resort was very nice - with lots of amenities. Close enough to the activities and attractions in Gulf Shores. It was a little cool to take advantage but the beach and pool areas were spectacular. The condo was probably terrific in the 1990's with it's Tommy Bahama decor - but it doesn't appear to have been updated in any way since then. Everything is old, tired and in some cases, not functional. The kitchen was very small - which was a bit of an issue for us during our Thanksgiving meal preparation. The appliances and utensils worked but not well. The kitchen has tons of dishes, pots and pans, etc. but again - most appear to have been there for years. It needs to be purged. On a positive note the labeling on the kitchen shelves was really good. There were some very basic maintenance issues (i.e. burnt out light bulbs) but the resort staff responded to our calls very quickly. Basically clean until you looked under the beds or paid attention to the walls and floors. The costs to rent this condo for 5 nights was really high - and definitely not worth it. I would not recommend it and strongly encourage the owners to invest in an upgrade/remodeling.
