It is a older place and neighbors seem to watch you a lot.
The place is okay. It is a older home so you can't expect to much. Some neighbors seems to keep their eyes on you a lot. Other than that, the owner doesn't allow you to eat crabs or fish in the house and you are not to have any guest over during the day.The owner took the whole deposit saying that the house smelt like crab and fish so they had to hire PROFESSIONALS to open up the windows and spray some Febreze. Owner said that it was impossible to get the property clean in time for the next renters but magically the PROFESSIONAL CLEANERS got it done in time for the next renters. Owner said that there were too much trash, so they charged me for hauling away the trash. I guess the cleaning fee doesn't cover the trash if you have five bags of trash. Owner said that we were horrible, disrespectful to the property and to the neighbors, but I believe the owner may be overeating. With my experience renting out this place, you must not eat crab in the house because the owners will need professional cleaners to get the scent out. You must not have over ten guest at the property during the day or you will get penalized. We only stayed inside the house and kept the noise to the bare minimum but owner claimed that we disrespected the place and the neighbors. It just seemed odd that some of the neighbors were happy to talk to us and were really thankful when we offered them food. But yeah, that is my experience at this property.
We are happy to have fisherman and have hosted many in the past; however, this guest was much different. Instead of one cleaning person cleaning the home in 5 hours it took 3 people cleaning 7 hours due to the condition the home was left in. They had fish and crab slime smeared thru out every surface of the home and yard(even had to clean the yard!). The neighbors were only watching because all their parking areas were blocked by the 4 oversized vans 2 large trucks and the autos that took up all the parking on our street(my home alone accommodates 5 vehicles!). Also, I was just at the house and several neighbors stopped me to complain about this particular guest and the loud late nights they kept(in front yard). They were appalled. We hired a truck to carry off all the large black lawn bags full of trash and fish "remains". And paid the resulting fee. The bags leaked all over the garage floor. After 6 years it is by far the most disrespectful renter I've had. They may have invited local family over to party and trash out my house but that is NOT acceptable behavior.
This property needs some TLC.
The place was big enough for my family of 10, the kitchen was ample size to serve a big meal and well stocked. After discussing with the adults about the house, we all thought the cleanliness of the place was subpar. If you did not wear your shoes, your feet were black from walking across the floors. The downstairs bathroom light had years of dust all over it, etc. The VRBO listing said this house had two full baths however the upstairs bathroom shower was not functioning. The shower head was broken, 10 people had to take turns showering downstairs! (I read in an earlier review about the same issue) This House need some TLC. As an owner of a VRBO...we were taken back of the cost per a night and the condition of the house.
I spoke to the owner twice, first time about the smoke detector which kept on going off and the second time I spoke with her about the shower head in the upstair’s bathroom. The owner was willing to send someone over to fix the smoke detector which was out of her hands. Low batteries happen, we bought the battery to fix it.
I am unsure what the issue was with the shower head. I had someone look at it immediately after your stay and they said it worked fine. I am here at the house now and it works fine. I am sorry about the alarm batteries and sorry you needed to call several times over that issue. Thank you for handling that. I will discuss floors/dust with cleaning persons.
House looked just like the pictures, everything was very well stocked (extra blankets, kitchen supplies, misc extras)
Perfect size for a group and in a great location!
We had a large group for the Crescent City Basketball Tournament and we had plenty of room. Home's central location was perfect for getting to the tourney just right down the road. Beach is close enough (couple of blocks) to walk. Our kids all had sleeping bags but the home did have everything you could need for a cozy stay.
Nice Home, Poor Communication
We stayed from Jul 21, 2017 - Jul 23, 2017. The home itself was nice and clean. We felt safe in the area and the rooms were all fully equipped. <<4 stars for the home>>
What I did NOT like so much was the unwelcoming communication with the owner. The owner's first message to me was a recommendation to stay elsewhere if we were the loud partying type. Even after I repeatedly told the owner that we were going to be out and about most of our stay there, and that we do not plan to party, the owner continued to emphasis no partying. I understand that the owner must have had a poor experience before, but as a new client to this home, it felt very unwelcoming for me. The owner also did not contact me with access instructions like she said she would when it got closer. I had to contact her for it the day we were going to check in. The lock box was also hard for me to open and close). <<1 star for the communication>>
This is my vacation home which I like letting nice people use. I have had a lot of problems this summer with loud partygoers staying outside at night bothering my neighbors. It is a quiet neighborhood and I would rather try to be a good neighbor. I don't approve anyone now without emphasizing that they should stay somewhere else if they party all night. That is best for the renter and the neighbors. It wasn't personal.
Additionally, I don't provide access directions until the day of check-in. If it was a problem and you needed it earlier I would have given it to you.
This is my vacation home. It is not a Motel 6. Respect for my neighbors, my rules, and the current renters is more important to me than trying to fill the house with a last minute renter.
Adequate for our needs
There were 8 of us (4 adults, 2 teens, a 3yr old, and a 16 month old) and we stayed just 2 nights at this home. It accommodated all of us comfortably. Only gave 3 stars because the home has a strong stagnant smell of mold and/or mildew. Other issues that are easy fixes: in the upstairs bathroom the shower head is pretty awful, barely sprays water, & needs replaced, all the beds upstairs (queen and bunk beds) have quite noisy mattresses, and the upstairs toilet needs some reinforcement as it moves back & forth when sat on. This home was adequate for what we needed. We liked the large kitchen & the appliances appeared upgraded & were all in great working order. We weren't there much anyway, we were hiking the redwoods and/or at the beach!
