Affordable and relaxing getaway

  • 5 of 5

My family and I went to Desert Princess for a week vacation. The weather was perfect and the grounds were all wonderfully maintained. The property owner Bill had everything ready for our visit and followed up with us thru the week to make sure we were having fun and had everything we needed. Local hiking at Indian Canyon was gorgeous and there was a Stater Bros right across the street. We ate in mostly and the grill outside and kitchen had everything we needed to cook come great meals. We miss the nice weather already. I highly recommend staying at this location and we will return.

Relaxing Spot In The Desert

  • 5 of 5

There are plenty of locations to stay in the Palm Springs area. The Cathedral City location works for me. I've been coming down from Washington State for about 16 years in April and just really like the proximity to everything such as PSP, Palm Springs Swim Center, shopping, ease to get to HWY 10 (my daughter lives in Redlands) and downtown Palm Springs. This is the second year that I've stayed in one of Bill's properties at the Desert Princess. Last year, I rented his two bedroom because we had a ladies' week. (You can read my review from last year.) Because it worked out so well, I researched securing a one bedroom in the same area for my husband and myself. I didn't even realize it, but I booked the condo next door to last year's. Nice. I was very familiar with the area. I got my husband's input. He likes having two bathrooms (BTW, my sister stayed for a few days and slept on the fold out couch, so this worked out well), loved the leather recliner and especially like the outside patio area. Prior to staying at the Desert Princess, we had a spot with a very small patio and little privacy. This is open to the golf course and there was no foot traffic (maybe a lemon falling from the tree, but gotta love that). I like this spot because it is secure, quiet, about a minute walk each way to either a lap pool - I"m a big time swimmer - or a regular pool with a hot tub, and a few minute walk to the Desert Princess pool. It serves our purpose for cooking, it's a good price and Bill is an excellent property manager. I've thought about staying in downtown Palm Springs for the convenience of walking, but I'm not sure that I would get the serenity that I have in this location. Like Bill said, "This isn't the Waldorf Astoria", but what I look for is something that serves everyone's needs for a good price. Both of his properties accomplish this.

Definitely needs some tlc

Desert Princess resort is very nice. The grounds are well kept, and very secure. However, this unit was a huge disappointment. We paid a cleaning fee! I had to remove old food items from the fridge and cupboards. The vertical blinds in the bedroom were dirty, and four of them fell down when we opened them. We had to fix them, and left them closed! The patio windows had to be cleaned because there were hand marks on them. I had to wash out the cutlery and drawer, and sort through the "vintage" assortment of dishes to find some that were useable. The cupboards, walls, and behind the furniture were, filthy. The pots and pans are old, scratched and dirty. We had to purchase some that we could cook in. The linens were very thin. And the furniture inside and on the patio were old, weathered, and uncomfortable. The carpet, that was cleaned, had a big stain in the middle of the floor. And the shower stall had mold. I'm sorry to have to be so critical, but this property should be very nice, if it had some cleaning, and repair.

Owner's Response: As the owner of the property, I think this review is very unfair and inaccurate. A 1-star rating is an absolute insult. I am proud of my units in the beautiful Desert Princess. I have stayed in this unit myself and take care of things when needed. I have made it very clear to anyone staying in my units that I am only a phone call away. I have a maid who is responsible for the cleanliness, and if there is anything they miss, they are happy to come over to take care of it. It only takes a little communication, and that is easy. To be miserable for 30 days as it sounds like in this case is absurd. There are many positive things that can be said about the resort and this unit, but to focus on negative things is not very fair. This resort and unit was built in 1985, so it may not be as modern as what the expectations were. To address the individual items - Regarding “Old food items”, there were people renting the prior month and sometimes people will leave things like ketchup or canned goods. That is ok by me to avoid waste, but if it is not wanted then it can be thrown away. The maid is instructed to throw any perishables. - The blinds I agree are a struggle, they were on my fix-it list and have been replaced. - Thin linens, not sure what is meant by this. There are sheets (yes thin) and towels, (not thin) - The comment about the furniture is unfair and inaccurate. The furniture is comfortable in my opinion. - The carpet was steam-cleaned prior to the stay. I was in the unit and did not see any stain, so need more information on this. This is definitely not the Waldorf, but it is a very nice and comfortable unit, as other reviews can attest to. Also, the many pictures in the VRBO advertisement gives a very good view of what is in the unit, and should give a good impression of what to expect. It is also a good value and not as expensive for the standards that this person must have been expecting.

Lovely Stay at Desert Princess

  • 4 of 5

This being the first time we had stayed at a condo (usually we stay in resort/timeshares), we found it to be a very enjoyable experience..The complex ( Desert Princess) was very nice, offering great golf, nice walking paths, adequate clubhouse with good restaurant. Bill, the owner of our condo, was very accommodating, and quick to rectify a couple of problems that arose. We would definitely consider another trip.
