We have enjoyed visiting Sonoma County and the Russian River for a long time. We love going wine tasting, kayaking and fishing, hiking, and just hanging out with friends. We always dreamed of owning a place on the river, and so were absolutely thrilled when we had the good fortune to find Mojo's Lair, our little piece of paradise. Our two Bostons, Durban and Phoenix, also love visiting Guerneville. Durban has even become quite the swimmer. Mojo, the beloved namesake of Mojo's Lair, wasn't much into swimming, but she loved to nestle in the front of Michele's kayak while she was out fishing (that's Mojo in the photo). Phoenix, with his huge feet, is also a great swimmer, and they are getting used to riding on the kayak like Mojo did.
Stephanie purchased this house in 2013
Why Stephanie chose Guerneville
We were immediately taken with spectacular views, the easy river access, the large sun-filled lot, the proximity to town, and its private, cozy feel. It really does feel like a private retreat, tucked away in nature, yet still close to lots of GREAT places to go and things to do.
What makes this house unique
The property is located just upstream of the summer dam at Vacation Beach. When the dam is in place, you can enjoy the lake-like deep water right off the dock, which is perfect for swimming and for kayaking and tubing. If you want to play in shallower water, cross the river to the island (great place for kids to play!), or head on down the street a block to Vacation Beach and you can explore the river in it's natural state from the other side of the dam. And bonus, in the summer, there is a road over the top of the dam that provides a nice shortcut into town and a more direct way to head west towards Northwood Golf and the mouth of the Russian River in Jenner. In addition, our place on the river gets much more sun than many places on the river. The deck in the middle of the property gets sun all day long, and the dock gets plenty of sun as well. The dock is also directly over a very deep part of the river so you can dive away! And shallow water for kids to play in is just across the way at Durban Island (what we call it--Durban was jealous that Mojo had the whole placed named after her).
