Located just north of Trillium, Waterfall Cove offers a mountain, lake and fishing vacation all in one. Lake Glenville, (just north of Cashiers NC,) is known as the highest lake east of the Mississippi river. The 3800 foot elevation means that summer temperatures never seem to get much higher than 84 degrees and nighttime temperatures sometimes dip in the the upper fifties - perfect for sleeping. This means that a vacation in the mountains is perfect for all outdoor activities.

A lakefront vacation in the mountains is all about the outdoors. Chances are you are going to want to be outside as much as possible. For this reason our home offers a large 20x23' covered deck for each level of the home. Even a occasional rain shower will not spoil your enjoyment of outdoors.

The newly remodeled kitchen includes granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances. Perhaps the most popular addition to our kitchen is the addition of a built-in Ice Machine. The bin holds 25lbs of ice and the machine is capable of making 50 lbs of ice in a day - to ensure that your ice chest or favorite beverage never gets warm.

During the summer the ducks in the cove have trained themselves to swim up to any people they see on the dock. Just feed them some stale bread and they'll be your new friends. The water at the end of the dock is always nice and calm in our protected cove - perfect swimming conditions and the lack of waves makes docking your boat a cinch.

We frequently invite another family to the lake with us. The adults typically sleep upstairs and the kids downstairs. The kids really love having their 'own' space. In 2013 we added another bunk room downstairs and equipped it with 2 Twin XL mattresses. This size mattress is popular on college campuses as it is 5 inches longer than a traditional size twin mattress which makes it suitable for a 6 foot adult.

The nearest town is Cashiers, NC. (about 15 minutes by car) and in addition to a full service grocery store (Ingles) it has some surprisingly good shopping for such a small city. My wife especially enjoys shopping at the consignment shop on Hwy 64. The country store near the corner of Hwy 107 and 64 is one of the most popular places to buy fresh produce. The town of Cashiers is bursting with civic pride and holds many special events throughout the tourist season. Check with the chamber of commerce for more information.

FISHING

Lake Glenville was created by a Dam managed by Duke Power. I found fishing on this lake to be a challenge until I went out with a local pro. Successful fishing on such a deep lake involves casting a lure into the shallows preferably near a tree that has fallen into the lake. Fortunately just such a tree sits about 30 feet from my dock. A Successful boat fishing technique involves a fishing boat with an electric trolling motor with anglers casting lures near the shallows. Successful fishing guides slowiy move the boat around the shore while occupants of the boat cast and reel constantly until they get a strike. Large and Small mouth bass will likely be what you catch when you use the cast and reel method. Bluegill are common and always seem to be too small. My fishing pro says walleye are in this lake but can be hard to catch outside of spawning season.

If all you want to catch are undersized bluegill that can be accomplished fairly easily by vertical fishing off the side or end of my dock. My little grandchildren are at that age where they just like to catch something. Undersized bluegill is just the thing for them and they are easy to catch right off the dock with live bait.

Tubing and skiing are the most popular activities on Lake Glenville. Pontoons and speed boats are available for rent at the local merchants. Pontoons can be a good choice if you like to cruise with a lot of people. They are easy to get on and off and they can move fast enough for kids to have a fun time on the tubes.

About Ken Faber

I am a computer programmer by training and profession. My brother discovered this lake in 1996 and lives on the other side of the lake from me. My wife and I grew up in Des Moines, IA and currently reside in the Atlanta GA area. We have 5 kids and 3 grandchildren and find this home in the Blue Ridge Mountains is the perfect escape from the Atlanta summer heat.

Ken Faber purchased this house in 2010

Why Ken Faber chose Smoky Mountains

We wanted a place on the lake that didn't get a lot of waves. Since this property is located in a protected cove on lake Glenville, it never sees the high winds and waves that can be present in other parts of the lake. This makes the home a perfect place for swimming, kayaking and fishing off the dock.

What makes this house unique

The sounds of Norton falls can be heard 24/7 from the deck of my home. The falls are located just 200 yards from the end of my dock. Put on a life jacket and swim under the falls or enjoy feeding the ducks from the dock.

Wonderful!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at Waterfall Cove. The home is soooo well equipped. The ice machine saved us many trips to town. We would love to go back.

Ho Hum, another week in pardise

  • 5 of 5

We stay here every year. I am running out of good things to say. Very thoughtful and detailed owner. Cannot beat the area for summer comfort, and cannot beat this house for location, location, location if you want to be on the water.

Some details if you need convincing:

Every little thing you might need for a good time in the mountains.

Kitchen is well stocked for any kind of cooking.

Handy gas grill on the same-level porch.

Great floating dock about 100 yards from the best waterfall on the lake.

Jet ski dock if you happen to bring your own ski.

Sleeps plenty of people.

Master has private bath of course.

Other rooms (4) share 2 additional bathrooms.

Beautiful wood porch in front.

Theme carried through remodeled interior.

Granite kitchen, stainless appliances, etc.

High wood ceilings.

Very clean, smoke-free, pet-free environment.

Theme carried through to large rear deck (2 level).

Incredible view down to lake.

Only possible negative to report is slow internet, but that is a function of the local ISP options in the mountains. Besides, you should turn off that screen and get outside.

For whatever it matters, Trillium is the large development nearby. This home is not in that community. For me, that is a positive. I like the private nature of this home.

Get to know the owner - responsive to texts/emails. You will feel like friends in no time.

Summer Paradise at Waterfall Cove

  • 5 of 5

We Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The cabin was hardly a cabin, but it felt homey like one. It is well furnished, kitchen was very well equipped, beds comfortable. Our family of 14 people all had adequate room. Kids loved the bunk beds. The views from the dock were outstanding. Swimming around the dock was safe and we couldn't keep the kids out. All the kids were able to catch fish off the dock, early in the morning. They were thrilled to death even with the small fish. We enjoyed s'mores around the fire pit. We rented a pontoon boat from the marina and it fit perfectly on the dock.

Ken Faber was a fabulous host and always available when needed.

Waterfall Cove is a beautiful home and property. It was perfect for our small-scale family reunion. There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out or to come together. The house is gorgeous with updated everything. We highly recommend it! Not complaints at all!

Military Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous stay at Waterfall Cove. Our family has not been all together for five years due to most of our family military members being deployed so often in recent years.

We had the opportunity to meet the owner on our first day at the home. He was very helpful in showing us how to operate various systems around the home. He could not have been kinder to us and was very appreciative of our families commitment to our military.

We hope to stay again next year and get as many of our service members there as we can.

Thank you Mr. Faber for allowing us to use your beautiful home for our family reunion.

Sincerely,

John and Jo Marshall
