A trip to Tuscany would not be complete without stopping over in Montepulciano, one of the region’s most charming medieval towns.Well-known for its bistecca fiorentina, pici pasta, pecorino cheese and, of course, its famous Vino Nobile, this hill-top town offers many eateries serving classic Tuscan cuisine. To the menu, add a calendar of cultural events especially in the summer. The Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte draws highly-regarded artists from around the word who work with young talent; and for the month of July you are in for a treat of daily performances ranging from classical to modern music, art etc. in its various forms. The appeal of Montepulciano hasn’t been lost on Hollywood either; the vampire saga Twilight sequel New Moon was filmed here. In mid-August each year the town’s Contrade compete in the Bravio delle Botti race where teams roll wine barrels from the base of the town up to the main square. To that mix add beautiful landmarks of Renaissance churches and historical palaces, coupled with fashionable shops that sell high-quality leather, linens and art.
Not far from the town square on a quiet street, is this renovated 1,100 sq. foot (110 sq. meter) apartment. Fully furnished and bright throughout, the entrance steps down into a separate living room with a TV and a fold-out couch that sleeps two. There are two bedrooms (where the double beds can be made into queen-sized beds for couples), a bathroom, storage room and a fully-equipped kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine. There are stunning views from the apartment of surrounding countryside and vineyards, the Trasimeno lake, the Chiusi lake, the Montepulciano lake and the central Apennines
Montepulciano's strategic position makes it a perfect base from which to explore this beautiful corner of Tuscany; from here, you can easily reach Siena, Cortona, Pienza, Montalcino, Assisi, Orvieto, Florence, Arezzo, and Perugia by car, train or bus.
