Why Norah Gormley. chose Prince Edward Island

My sister and i bought this lot because of the name of the location,White Sands and the beautiful view. We grew up in Ireland in a little community looking out over the sea called Thallabawn Gaelic for white sands. The sand here is a little more red but we love it just as much.

Home away from home

My husband and I had he pleasure of renting this beautiful cottage with a fantastic view of the ocean. Norah's hospitality ensured our stay was both comfortable and peaceful. We could tell she took pride in her property and she was available if needed but respectful of our privacy. We enjoyed breakfast in. Murray Habour, a short drive away and exploring the countryside.

We love tnis home away from home, we can't wait to return. Wishing Norah and family luck with their new property and hope to stay again soon.

Great 10 days in June

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four had a great time. The cottage is very clean and comfortable, and in a very quiet area. We loved the peace and quiet. We spent a lot of time walking the beach, collecting loads of sea glass, making bonfires, picnics and so on. Our favorite morning ritual was waking up a=early, without knowing what time it was, and sitting on those two chairs staring at the sea, with the rising sun warming our sleepy bodies.

Nora was very kind and helpful from the start to the finish. The Cheeky Monkey was a very nice and appreciated gesture, as well as the eggs from the farm up the road. I even asked for a shovel to make some stairs to go straight to the beach without having to walk around, and it worked quite well. I hope other following visitors got to use it too.

We bought lobster twice, once at the ferry and the other time at a shop in Murray Bay. We needed a huge pot to cook these suckers and Nora was again fast to provide one for us. We also had very nice drives around the area, including Georgetown, Montague, Panmure island and so on. Good food also at Brehaut's, very decent prices.

We also took the ferry to NS and visited Truro, New Glasgow and Parrsboro. The bay of Fundy was great at low tide. It was a fun day excursion. Many thanks again, Nora. A great for all. I hope you found you're cell phone cable! :-)

How Relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from our week in PEI and were lucky enough to have gotten the best week of weather this summer! The cottage is bigger than the pictures make it seem and had more than enough room for 2 couples and 2 small dogs. We spent a lot of our time with our chairs pulled up to the edge of the grass just looking out at the sea and watching the seals and diving fish. There was everything we needed to enjoy a week away including bikes, boats, sun umbrella, and so much more. The cottage is treated like a hotel and you arrive to a spotless home with towels, coffee, soaps, and anything else you might need. Norah even stopped by and gave us some homemade jam to have on our toast!

We purchased eggs from the farm up the drive, cooked the fish we caught our selves in the ocean, explored the tide pools on low tide, found hermit crabs and picked them up. I cannot wait to get back to the ocean!

A few tips would be to go swimming in Murray River at the King's Castle Provincial Park. The ocean is way too cold to enjoy for us Ontario folk but the river was perfect...and empty! It was still salt water and had all the same crabs to catch and release. The Point Prim Chowder house was to DIE for. GO THERE! There is also a Jeweler based out of Georgetown that has amazing sea glass and silver designs that you can get and explore the ocean front shop. Worth the trip!

Relaxing and Enjoyable!

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we arrived, the cottage was meticulous in terms of cleanliness & neatness. You can tell this cottage is given attention & has all the amenities of home! More than what we expected. Nora is a gracious host & has thought of anything & everything a family may require when vacationing in PEI. Full size fridge, stove, dishwasher and even a washer & dryer. Full size tub/shower. Queen bed in master bedroom and two beds (one twin & a double) in other bedroom, worked perfect for our family of four. Good size living room that opened into an eat-in kitchen. Large windows plus patio doors with great views of the Northumberland Strait. Large deck with ample outside furniture (BBQ too) to enjoy the views as well. The ocean provided much entertainment as we saw many seals bobbing in the water & gannets diving for fish. When we had a question Nora was always available and willing to help in anyway. We really enjoyed our stay at this quiet, very peaceful and private views of the beach and the Strait.

Few points of interest:

* We really enjoyed Panting Shore Beach (About 10 minutes from the cottage, turn left out of the driveway on your way back to Wood Islands Ferry). Great sandy beach, very shallow, lots of sandbars & calm waters especially in low tides. Great for children. If you are lucky, look to the far left of the point, you may see seals sunbathing.

* Brehauts in Murray Harbour, only 5 minutes from the cottage, turn right out of the driveway. Awesome milkshakes & ice cream treats. Very reasonably priced. We also had a meal there, great prices, very good home made chowder, but was disappointed the fish was previously frozen and not local (from NS).

* Montague: About 25 minutes away, Famous Peppers Pizza, excellent pizza (we had the maple chicken pizza) & really good garlic fingers. Also, the Montague Bakery is a must stop!

* GOLF: Brudenell is an excellent course to be played & Belfast Highland Greens was a surprisingly little treat too. If you have the time, you should also play Dundarave, a long, challenging & fun course.

* GEORGETOWN: 1.The Kings Playhouse Dinner Theatre. Food was pretty good and the entertainment was terrific. 2.Great coffee at Maroon Pig. 3.Very good fish dinners at Clam Diggers.

* POINT PRIM Chowder House. Lobster Roll and Chowders were some of the best we ever had. Very fresh and a lot of seafood. Well worth the drive.

For those who are not familiar with British comdey, this cottage was Absolutely Fabulous! It is located off the beaten path, but is close to attractions including: two wineries (Rossignol 7 km and Newman 11km), town of Montague 28 km (deep sea fishing, Artisans on Main, The Garden Of The Gulf Museum, major grocery stores, the Confederation Trail, etc.), and for the golfer there is the Eagles View golf course 10 km. Wood Islands with a lighthouse, visitor information centre, Crabby's seafood takeout, and a liquor store is only 17 km away.

The cottage itself comfortable and well equipped, including wifi. The yard is large and can easily accomodate a large setup for croquet. The beach itself is a very short walk away and is absolutely phenomenal. Perfect for long walks, collecting sea glass or shells, it is also easy to keep an eye on little ones. Though we did not use the kayaks or bikes, this is the first cottage in then years of east coast vacations that has offered these amenities at no extra charge!

The owners obviously take pride in their property and are very helpfull. This cottage was so relaxing and ideally located we booked a week in 2015. Also the first time in ten years we have ever come back to the same cottage!

We stayed here for three weeks during July/August 2014 and had a fantastic time. The cabin was clean and comfortable. We were able to sleep 3 adults and 3 kids with no issues. The property has a fantastic view and we spent a lot of time in the chairs overlooking the ocean. It was a quick walk down the driveway to a sandy beach with enough rocks around to keep the kids busy swimming and climbing. With bicycles and kayaks at the property for our use, we were able to see more of the island than we would have only by car.

The kitchen has all the usual utensils and pots/pans, along with a BBQ on the deck we cooked most of our meals there and enjoyed eating on the deck most evenings.

The location is close to a couple of good restaurants in Murray River and Murray Harbour, 20 minutes from Montague that has two large grocery stores, and a quick drive or bike ride to a beautiful vineyard/winery. We enjoyed the proximity to the ferry and were able to take a day trip to Nova Scotia for sightseeing without rushing to catch the ferry.

The owners were a fantastic help - dropping extra items off for the kids, giving us local information and checking in to make sure everything was good around the property.

I highly recommend this cottage and will likely rent here again in the future!
