Reviewer Comments:

The staff at Associated Realty was very kind and laid back. They made the renting experience easy. The location of the property is perfect. It is close to the beach, restaurants, shops, and ferry to Balboa. Unfortunately, the property had some drawbacks. All of the blinds in the house had cords/drawstrings that were soiled and no one wanted to touch. Also, some of the blinds were broken. The handle in the shower was broken and made turning the water on and off a chore. When we arrived in the unit someone had left food scraps in the garbage disposal and there was a weird smell. The kitchen was not equipped well if you wanted to make a meal and all pots, pans, serving bowls, etc.. needed to be washed before I would actually use them. The refrigerator is rusted on the front and the couches are peeling so the pictures provided in the ad may be a little old. Finally, I have never rented a vacation home that did not have hand soap and toilet paper (at least a roll or two) available. Maybe this is usual in the area, but has not been the case when I have used vacation rentals in other parts of California. On the survey I chose to recommend to a friend because of location, but I would definitely explain my reservations about the property.

Reviewer Comments:

This rental house was perfect for our family of four, including my 5 & 2 year old. The house was very clean and in a perfect location. Less than 30 seconds to be on the beach & walking distance to the fun zone which my kids loved. We brought a noise maker for my kids room which I recommend b/c Balboa Blvd can get loud, but we all slept great! Beds were comfortable and the bathroom was great! The house also has a hose on the side so you can rinse off the sand b4 going in which was great, esp with the kids! My only recommendation would be to replace the fan in the kitchen to a faster one to improve air flow and replace the oven mitts / sheet pan. Also, providing guests w/ a few beach items would be great (umbrella / toys). This house is very close to kid-friendly restaurants and a a small food market. We loved this house & location and definitely plan to return every summer with our kids!

Positive: 55 steps to the sand. 2 car garage. Great space for small family. A lot of close by entertainment. Not so positive: 55 steps to sand but 6 times that to get to the water (long beach). Busy road with traffic noise all night. A lot of people traffic/noise on the weekend nights. Towels and linens only provided at extra cost.

Great 2 weeks!

  • 4 of 5

My family came to visit me last summer and we stayed here for two weeks. At the beginning i was worried not to find a good place for such a special trip, summer rentals in newport are crazy. Julia and Jim recommended this house which had full availability for my family dates. First thought: that's weird. No one must want to go there. Confirmed reality: no one was aware of it because it had just been put on the market. (Julia and Jim sorry i doubted!!)

It's a super cozy little apartment, in a GREAT location, few steps away from the balboa pier and Fun zone area with plenty of restaurants and things to do. What we liked the most of the house is the terrace. I seriously don't understand a house without a terrace in Newport (i've been living around newport two years already) and sitting under the sun to have lunch or dinner enjoying the good weather with family is priceless.

No complaints at all. Great experience. Amazing deal quality-price wise!
