1 And 1/2 Bedroom, 1 Bath, Sleeps 5 With Gorgeous Ocean View
This recently built ocean front cottage is a wonderful place to come and relax for a weekend get away or for a extended stay to recharge your batteries in a calming and tranquil setting. Gorgeous views from your living room/dining room table are just the beginning of your relaxing stay. Entering from the deck, you are immediately greeted by hardwood floors, vaulted ceilings, Fir doors and trims, and Cherry cabinets in the kitchen. The perfectly situated King size alcove just off the kitchen and living room can be saved for later for a small child's nap, or a place to curl up and take a snooze in the middle of the afternoon.
The freestanding gas fireplace will keep you cosy warm throughout your stay, any time of year if needed, while reading a book with a glass of wine or munching on appys prepared in the fully functioning kitchen
If movies are your thing, a large 55 inch flat screen smart TV could be a perfect conclusion to a day of adventure cycling around the island on bikes that are provided, (4 with helmets) or a tour around on the water in the Kayaks that are stored under the deck.(includes life jackets) If you prefer to bring your own power boat, there is a mooring buoy in front of the cabin (be sure to mention it in your inquiry so that I can give you some helpful suggestions for launching. Some of the San Juan Islands are as close as 15 minutes away and many of them have a dock to tie up to. ).
It is hard to beat waking up in the morning watching the sailboats from your California king size bed in the master bedroom ... or listening to the creek making its way along side the property till it goes over the edge of the rocks into the ocean.
On a good day, you may be fortunate enough to see our adopted Eagle (Zorro) perched in the trees, or the deer that come through the property foraging for food. If you enjoy eating smores around an open fire, wood is provided and the outdoor fire pit that boasts an ocean view is a great place to to keep anyone entertained. The Deck in the front of the cottage, though small, allows for those morning coffees in the crisp air. Did I mention the cappuccino machine? Or if you prefer, when the sun is shining, the deck by the entrance is always comfortable both in size and in temperature in the comfort of a wooded view ..

Why Peter and Rebekah Vandervelden chose Lummi Island
Our family loves the water, whether that is boating, swimming, fishing or kayaking or just being close to it, it is wonderful! So while we were viewing some listings for waterfront property, this one caught our eye. It showed a view from the living room window of a sail boat slowing making its way west on a light breeze. The attraction was immediate, what could beat those gorgeous views of the ocean, we needed to check it out. As a cabinet maker stepping inside I was instantly drawn to the high end finishes, The simple yet creative layout drew me in. I was impressed how the cottage was flooded with natural light from the large windows, yet how the purposely placed trees maintained the properties privacy. so we decided to make it our tranquil retreat. This cottage has two floors, The kitchen, living room and bathroom on the Main, and a large master bedroom (by lummi island standards) on the lower floor, making the most of ocean views. Also, the laundry is located on the lower floor. No need for curtains here however blinds are at the ready to ensure a restful sleep to even an insomniac Where would the kids sleep you may wonder.. well the unique and cosy alcoves provide the kids with there own adventure, the opening off the kitchen with room for a queen size bed creates the feeling of sleeping in a ship complete with it's own porthole to the outside and a tastefully added light fixture. It was always our intent to find a place that didn't feel like a regular house, but a cottage on the island.. rustic, yet elegant. We would love to hear your thoughts.

Winter Relax Session
Great spot to unwind and play some board games.
Will try again in the Summer.
Thanks Adam, the beauty of coming in the summer, is the kayaking, crabbing and camp fires with s'mores!!! Looking forward to seeing you.
Fantastic love it!
Great location and owners were fantastic with their replies can't wait to go back again!
Spotless, eclectic home well situated on peaceful Lummi Island
This home was even more beautiful in reality then the pictures could convey --it is clearly well cared for and well-maintained. (The king size bed was amazingly comfortable -and we are picky sleepers) Our kids used the two sleeping alcoves - charming! the smaller one barely fit my 11 y.o so that's prob max age... Older teen did fine in larger one.
We used the kayaks both of our days. Fantastic! (the put-in might be a little bit challenging if you were new to kayaking). The bikes are a kind offer, but don't count on them if you want to do any real riding; they are more casual (heavy, rusty, one speed) beach bikes and wouldnt be useful for more than a short distance. We spoke with Lummi Concierge that will rent 24 speed if you want that.
The location is prime, just slightly down from a more beachy point, and just a short drive to the grocery. Hiked Baker Preserve and dined at outstanding Willows Inn (but not with kids).
We cherished our time here. Just know it is an eclectic layout: the shower is very tiny and in a sort of curtained off alcove; fine for families but might be awkward for anyone not close. Also the driveway is a bit steep when you exit, and there's a blind corner when you pull out - just do it carefully (we did have a 4wd suv).
No matter, we'd rent this place again, absolutely. Thank you, Peter and Rebekah!
Truly quiet, restful retreat on Lummi Island
This was our first trip to Lummi and we thoroughly enjoyed visiting the island. The house was well situated with a lovely view. Very quiet with only one visible next door neighbor who we saw nothing of (though we did see cars coming and going).
The house was very clean and comfortable. Ideally suited for two people, but comfortable enough for my husband and our two teenage daughters. The king-sized bed was very comfortable, but the other sleeping arrangements were just okay. The kitchen was adequate. We are longtime users of VRBO homes and I always bring a tub of extra kitchen utensils - I had to use some of my own stuff (eg, scissors, spatula) but not so much as to be a true detriment. We were going to use the charcoal grill but couldn't find any tools, and the grill could use a good cleaning. In the end we just cooked indoors. The fire pit is awesome and there is a ton of wood. But again only one practically useless tool to move logs around.
We stopped at the local store, The Islander. It is stocked with some basics and a sweet little gift shop. The hike along Baker Preserve Trail is not long but pretty steep to begin with. But oh-so-worth it as you are rewarded with a spectacular view at the overlook. Sunset Beach over by the Willows Inn is indeed a great location for watching the sun set. The best surprise was going to Legoe Bay Winery. How many wineries have you tasted their wines (and they pour a generous 8 tastes) and they have all been good? We bought a case.
Overall, truly a lovely stay, but my curiosity has been satiated and I doubt that we will be back to visit the island.
We really enjoyed our time here. Fire pit was a hit. Well equipped kitchen.
Beautiful island getaway
Beautiful ocean views from the living room, kitchen and master bedroom windows. Our kids loved the cozy bed on the main floor and the little bed under the stairs down the hall from the master bedroom. We found two nice beaches for the kids on the island, where we spent a lot of time. We also enjoyed the sunset from the cabin.
Washington state has some amazing parks that are uniquely situated on there own Islands. Three of those islands are located within 20 minutes of our cottage via water taxi. The beauty of it is that you can step onto the water taxi only minutes away from the cottage not only to enjoy an exciting boat ride, but safe transportation to Matia, Sucia, or Patos Islands. These islands surround you in nature and offer breath taking hikes, unmatched beach combing gorgeous views with the convenience of bathroom facilities and fire pits to enjoy a secluded picnic in the spring (with a supplied picnic basket with all the unbreakable dishes, be sure to take the smores if the kids are coming), or meet and greet sailboats and motor cruisers that are tucked in the quiet bays for the relaxing summer days. While staying at the cottage you can have these outings arranged by us or play it by ear and organize while you are already there based on availability. If fishing is on your list, this too, is offered along with whale watching tours and bottom fishing and crabbing when in season.
