About the property

Agua Viva – 132

Welcome guests to our charming 2 bedroom ensuite casa overlooking the Sea of Cortez. Our home has everything you need for a tranquil getaway to old Mexico on the baja peninsula. Located in the front row of Agua Viva in Loreto Bay, you will enjoy spectacular ocean sunrises from the second deck or tower, making it difficult to sleep in!

The home is appointed with custom Mexican furniture, travertine tile floors and granite countertops in the kitchen and bathrooms. Unique to our Nuevo Chica style home, marvel at the flight of hummingbirds in the oversized garden with a cozy breakfast nook perched at the end of the flagstone walkway. The two master suites with king beds are located on the main living level and one on the second floor. Sun bathe in quiet solitude on the second deck or read a good book in the shade of the Pergola, cooled by ocean breezes. Enjoy splendid beach sunrises from the large third story tower with a hot cup of coffee or experience a mountain sunset with your favorite glass of wine or margarita.

The Loreto Bay residential community has all the amenities you need if you prefer the solitude of home, but we trust you will want to explore and partake in the many riches this corner of the world has to offer. Play golf on the spectacular course that you will see from our casa or a game of tennis on one of the 4 courts. Expect to meet friendly neighbors from the deck and tower or just walking to the car.

Loreto is a quaint, fishing village reminiscent of “old Mexico”. It is one of the oldest Catholic missions in the Peninsula of Baja California. You will be welcomed with warm, genuine Mexican hospitality in a family friendly town where the children still wear uniforms to school. Loreto is at the base of the towering Sierra de la Giganta mountain range, and is filled with historic treasures. There is an abundance of water sport and land recreational opportunities, including fishing, sightseeing, whale watching, diving, kayaking, hiking, swimming and biking to name many. First time visitors to Loreto marvel at this Destination of Discovery. The Sea of Cortez is virtually a salt-water aquarium and was frequently referred by the late Jacques Cousteau as one of his preferred locations for marine research and discovery.

Our casa was completed in 2010 and is in brand new condition. If you have any question or need assistance, please do not hesitate to email or call us.

About Gregory & Anne Jones

I just retired after 21 years in Alaska; 16 years working for the pipeline. Prior to that I retired as a Commander in the US Coast Guard after 20 years. My wife and I have three grown children. We found our main homestead on Hayden Lake in northern Idaho. After being away from the water for too long, we are now going to enjoy the lake in the summer and the Sea of Cortez in the winter. We chose Loreto after a 2005 trip there to see the development presentation. The vision from dirt and a number on a chart came to fruition and was completed in 2010. With having two pets and three adult kids in three different states, we still haven't spent enough time there. Hence, we decided to share the opportunity for others to enjoy our casa and the Sea of Cortez when we cannot be there. We just listed our casa in February 2014.

Gregory & Anne Jones purchased this villa in 2005

Why Gregory & Anne Jones chose Loreto Municipality

First and foremost, we prefer lots of sunshine and pristine waters that are teeming with sealife. We are both divers and never grow tired of surveying coral reefs. We love watching the whales and fishing for mahi-mahi! Loreto Bay also has a beautiful golf course with a couple holes along the water that rival Pebble Beach! We are also tennis players and the developer recently renovated four courts.

What makes this villa unique

If you enjoy being outdoors, whether golfing, hiking, biking, swimming, snorkeling/diving, fishing, or just reading a good book in a quiet setting, this is a great vacation destination! Loreto Bay is not overcrowded and is a walking community. The 'World's Aquarium' was the term Jacques Cousteau called the Sea of Cortez.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Our first guests wrote us an email and said: your Casa and the development was a true oasis from our usual hectic lives. We look forward to coming again to see the progress as the area continues to be developed. We enjoyed the deck and hope no one builds in front of you. We hope the Agua Viva folks found the place in good shape after our departure. We pride ourselves in leaving our rentals as we found them.

Pure Delight

  • 5 of 5

We arrived from rainy lands to a warmth that was sorely needed. The managaement company was so attentive and helpful on check-in. They also were available to answer questions and for booking excursions.

The property is absolutely gorgeous, the beds comfortable, the bathrooms and common areas, spacious and the outdoor areas perfect for watching every sunrise and every sunset. The meandering pathways of the complex are magical as are the plantings of flowers and trees (some are MANGOES!).

We biked everywhere (except for town) as we did not rent a car. We also found that we could be picked up right from the beach for a trip to El Coronado island or to go fishing for yellowtail. We rented kayaks and sampled food from every restaurant. We went into town as well.

This is the perfect spot for a deeply relaxing vacation.

Awesome vacation house

  • 5 of 5

We brought our kids here for spring break and had a fantastic time. The house is very nice and well maintained. It is in the midst of a development of similar properties, right next to a golf course and the Sea of Cortez. We are not golfers, but do appreciate the beautiful green landscaping, and unlike many golf courses nobody minds if you walk across the course on your way to the beach or other parts of the development. It is within 15 minutes' drive of the Loreto airport and the town of Loreto which makes it very convenient. The hosts, Anne and Greg, were great. They provided a bunch of useful information that helped us plan for the trip. They told us they don't cook much themselves and made no promises about the kitchen and its contents, but we do like to cook and found the kitchen quite well equipped (worth seeing what is in the pantry before you go shopping). This enabled us to enjoy the fantastic views from either of two roof deck eating areas for many of our meals. We had so much fun we lost track of time and missed our flight (major boo boo, NOT recommended), but they were very understanding even though it caused them not-insignificant inconvenience. We felt deeply appreciative of that!

There are lots of fun things to do close by. We took a boat/snorkel trip around Isla Coronado and saw an incredible variety of wild life, including blue whales, seals, pelicans, hawks, lots of colorful tropical fish. This was easily arranged right down at the beach, with Arturo's Sport Fishing. Also available at the same location on the beach are kayak and SUP rentals.

I could go on and on, but my character count is running out. Bottom line--great rental house from really nice hosts. If you decide to rent this one you will not regret it.

Lovely Casa - Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed our stay and thank you for sharing your lovely villa. The views of the mountains, golf course and Sea of Cortez were stunning from the tower. The villa was nicely appointed and quite comfortable for two couples. This was our second visit to Loreto Bay Resorts and look forward to a return trip in the near future. We stayed in the Founders Neighborhood on our first visit and we equally enjoyed Agua Viva – they are both similar and conveniently located to all the facilities on the resort property. We had a need to contact the property manager during our stay to address a plumbing issue and they were very responsive and fixed it in a timely manner.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this Casa in Loreto! The home was beautiful, well furnished, comfortable, and very quiet and peaceful. The best part was the panoramic deck with amazing views of the town, mountains, and ocean. We enjoyed the sunset each and every night on the deck! It was a great location outside of the major tourist attractions in downtown Loreto. The community was quaint and we felt like there was a great mix of local restaurants. We will definitely come back for another vacation!

Exceptional views and a myriad of activities!

  • 5 of 5

The Casa is very comfortable and well furnished. Two of us stayed for a month, March-April and found it well furnished for a week or month long extended stay. With the two master bedrooms it would easily handle four people.

Really enjoyed the sunrises , sunsets, and night skies from the upper decks. The top Cupola became our evening relaxing point (Margaritaville) as we saw whales, manta rays, and a variety of birds (bring binoculars) along with the setting sun over the Gigantics (Mt range to the West). As a golfer I enjoyed watching the golfers play holes 7, 8, 9 which are between the Casa and the Sea of Cortez (along with practice chipping and putting when no one was around). Speaking of golf the 1st tee is a 5 minute walk from the Casa, really convenient. You can buy a week or month long membership at the golf course to play as much as you would like.

The Sea of Cortez was very calm almost every morning and is perfect for kayaking ,paddle boarding, snorkling until about 11 am when the wind picks up. Again, only a few minute walk to beach across the golf course from the Casa.

The nearest restaurant (Pedro's) is a 3 minute walk, and is where we took some the the 50 lb yellowfin tuna we caught (one of seven two of us caught that day ranging in size from 25-50 lbs, a really beautiful fish. Took one and donated rest to village people thru our guide Juan at Mijito Sport Fishing.) Pedro's restaurant (and small grocery)is one of 6 that are an easy walk from the Casa.

A designated lap pool is a 10 minute walk (if swimming for exercise is a goal) along with a nearby small pool for soaking up that Vitamin D (sunshine)! The hotel pool and poolside bar is also available for residents where you can purchase snacks and drinks, and has a full service restaurant.

To sum up the memorable experiences were: The Jones Casa is a terrific place to stay as it is comfortable and well maintained. Kayaking, snorkeling, jogging (beach), walking, bird watching, fish watching (honest...the Manta Rays jump quite often and there are hundreds of them), whale watching, Brown Pelican watching, sunrise-sunset-night sky watching and very importantly golf , are all in front of you.

Negatives: wifi is inconsistent throughout Loreto, and it would be nice IF the Casa had a barbecue if you are on an extended stay.

The Joneses are very responsive should you have any problems, along with Aqua Viva management who handles any issues with the residence.
