About Wendie and Ed Batterson

Wendie and Ed have been renting the house since it was built in 2001. We have enjoyed knowing our guests from around the US and Overseas. The Guest Book is filled with 'Thank-you' and 'Fabulous Vacation' comments. We look forward to meeting new visitors as well as our many returning friends.

Why Wendie and Ed Batterson chose Leadville

The features of this location are unique in Colorado and hard to duplicate anywhere. Our small, private, development is surrounded by National Forest and BLM land. The views of the mountains are spectacular. Enjoy sitting on Adirondack chairs on the covered deck, reliving your hike up Mt Elbert or urging-on your friends as they make their way up. River fishing or rafting is close by on the Arkansas River; Turquoise and Twin Lakes are close as well. Miles of old mining/jeep trails offer hiking , biking and 4 wheeling with endless possibilities year round. Leadville's amenities are close, about 7 miles to the closest grocery/gas.

What makes this house unique

With the many sleeping options ,3.5 baths, 3 levels, fully stocked kitchen and views in many directions, the house is designed for vacations. Whether you are newly weds looking for privacy in a spectacular setting, a group of mountain bikers who need a good base of operations, or a family group with varying interests, Eagles Rest has been a favorite. The access roads are well maintained year round.

You won't want to leave the porch

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was the perfect place for our family of adults to meet and explore the area. The cabin (house really) was spacious for our group of 3 couples, was very clean and had a nice kitchen for our group meals.

With short day trips we visited Leadville, Buena Vista, Mt. Massive, Twin Lakes and found plenty of hiking, canoeing and disc golf. Each day began and ended with some time on the wonderful porch. I would certainly stay here again or recommend Eagle Rest to friends.

Owner's Response: We are glad this group enjoyed the house but are surprised by the water odor issue, which we heard after their departure. This is the first such comment we have received. We checked the house after departure, found no issue and have stayed here enjoying fall. The house has a Culligan treatment system that removes minerals and provides pleasant soft water. Very occasionally a mountain well can produce a sulfur door after a period of non-use but it dissipates within seconds. We are confident that future guests will enjoy the house and the water.

Perfect launch point for Mt. Elbert

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful trip to this house in August 2016. The house was conveniently located for any adventure in the Leadville/Buena Vista area. It is very beautiful and we could just as easily have spent the whole weekend enjoying the view from the front porch. Great amenities, very clean, owners were friendly and accessible as plans morphed. Highly recommend this location! We hope to return next year!

Great stay close to Leadville!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great experience here. The home was perfect for our group and had everything needed. The kitchen is well stocked, warm fireplace, comfortable beds and beautiful views of the northern Sawatch range. It was a pleasure working with the owners to set up the stay and we would easily recommend this property to anyone looking to vacation near Leadville.

Very Nice

  • 5 of 5

Making the arrangement with Ed and Wendie was quick and easy. The property is in a great location well outside of Leadville with straight-on views of Mt. Elbert and the other peaks across the valley. The home is beautiful, with nice furnishings and everything a small group needs to spend a few days. We ate in on three of our four nights and at a restaurant in Leadville the other night. We found everything we needed to fix those meals. Ed and Wendie even thought of putting out night-lights for the bathrooms and bedrooms because there are no street lights or other non-natural sources of ambient light once the sun goes down. Made it easy to sit on the deck and look at stars. We would recommend the house to anyone wishing to stay in the Leadville area.

High quality and comfortable Cedar Log home. Fantastic views of Colorado's highest peaks. Enjoy the friendliness and convenience of Leadville, skiing at Ski Cooper and Copper Mtn. close by, and the attractions of Aspen, Vail, Monarch and Summit County areas only a short distance away. Our valley has been called the 'Switzerland of America'. In the summertime, it's a day trip to Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley over beautiful Independence Pass. 3 miles from the Arkansas River, 100 miles of 'Gold Medal' trout fishing. Racers ( bike and running) and their support teams have enjoyed the location over the years as a base of activity and a chance for some to relax on the covered decks and enjoy the solitude.
