Clean, light-filled studio apartment and hideaway with private entrance, lots of windows, separate restroom with shower, and continental kitchen with two burners, microwave, toaster oven some pots and pans, cutlery, sink and refrigerator, plus cool patio. Located on backside of main house.

The bed is a pillow top queen bed, and there is a leather futon that opens to a full bed. There is also a private patio with a sofa, fire pit, outdoor table and lighting. There is an outlet mall, featuring Polo, Levi, nike, Guess, Coach and many others 10 mins by car. San Luis Obispo is 12 mins north, Moro Bay is about 35 mins north, and Hearst Castle about an hour north.

There is also a kayak rental store within 5 mins walking distance.

About Stephen

I returned to the beaches of California from the Mountains of Arizona, and found paradise in what is truly one of the last of the crown jewel beach ares on the Central California Coast. Still raw and uncommercialized compared to most other beach towns.

Stephen purchased this studio in 2001

Why Stephen chose Central Coast

It was a fixer upper and so I fixed 'er up the way I wanted to make it warm and personal!

What makes this studio unique

Minutes walk to the beach and to boutique coffee shops, restaurants, grocery store, liquor store and kayak shop!

I had it booked for two and left after the first night

It's too bad they don't let you post pics here of the property. Before booking I informed Stephen of my service dog. He pre approved the booking. I sent a second email wondering if someone would be there if there were problems. He never responded. I thought it might be a scam. It is also not steps to the beach, it's close to the cliffs with difficult beach access. Well, when we arrived and he saw the dog he was irritated and said if he knew (remembered) he would not have rented to me (that's not legal). Later that evening he found the email and said the dog was okay. Not a pleasant welcome. He was kind of a jerk about it.

The patio is not private. It is where his large dog urinates and sleeps. I woke up to the sound of splashing urine as his dog peed out the window by the bed. The urine smell is so strong it wafts through the windows and sitting at the patio table was unbearable. Doors and windows to the main house open to the patio leaving the studio quite exposed. Fire pit was not working. The patio furniture is covered in dog hair and dirty.

The inside place itself needs cleaning, mold removal. The shower was just rusted and foul with mold. How much does a shower curtain cost?? The bathroom was just dirty and dingy. Exposed floorboards and wiring were issues. Visible mold above the TV and a layer of bug poop around the TV. The pots and pans are so high up they can't be reached and are full of spider webs. Spiders all over the house. there are no screens to the windows either.

There is an old non working refrigerator in the kitchen storage and it smells like an old fridge. It is poorly separated from the main house from a strange door in the bathroom where you can hear everything through. The bed is super loud and squeaky. It is very close to the freeway and you hear noise all night.

I have used VRBO for years and this is my first negative review. I will post pictures if I can find a way. When I saw someone else's negative review I thought they were just being picky. Not the case. This was a trip for my 50th birthday celebration and it was a disappointment and a huge waste of time and money. I live up the central coast and I will steer people clear of this place. Keep looking people, don't get stuck here. AFTER I was unhappy he threatened to post about my legal medicine used outdoors. I was creeped out that he was watching.

VRBO needs to educate homeowners on laws of a service dog. Discrimination will get homeowners in a lot of trouble

Owner's Response: Customer first tried to book on Air site but date was unavailable. She had mentioned having a dog despite listing not allowing dogs, but the issue was moot because date was not available. No dog rule stems from numerous clients having severe medical issues stemming from allergies from animals, including dogs. For that reason, I don't ever let the dog in the studio. Additionally, my dog is very friendly but an alpha dog toward other dogs - especially around her castle. That leads to confrontations, urinating in studio patio area to mark territory, and camping out near studio to stand guard. Customer then sought to book through VRBO and did not mention having a dog. I had no idea this was the same person who attempted to book earlier on Air site when room when dates were unavailable. Her sister then contacted me from Air site and inquired how far from the beach, which I explained was about a four minute walk. Client then arrived with her dog and despite my surprise and concern about the impact on the room for other guests with allergies and the dog issues I stated earlier, I agreed to let her stay with the dog. Minutes later I found an email she had just sent stating that I misrepresented the location of the Euro Hideaway from the beach -- alleging I told her sister 1500 feet. I then showed her the response I wrote her sister about a four minute walk, customer never apologized. Moreover, after our dogs met in the patio, customer said she loved my dog and it was okay for her to stay around studio - in fact, she left the door open for my dog to go into the studio. My dog gets the best write-ups on both Air and VBRO -- a client favorite. Nonetheless, I periodically must look into patio/studio area to get my dog for a walk as she is sleeping near the studio because of the other dog.Customer than sends me an email stating that she left the studio early because she felt uncomfortable because of the dog, that my dog urinated and I had not cleaned it up with with baking powder (how was I to know), and that I invaded her privacy because I looked into the patio (to get me dog), and I should have built a barricade to block access to my dog (though she welcomed the dog), and the "no dog" rule alleviates this need. Lastly, as a result of allowing the dog, I spent 3 hours scrubbing the floors and walls so I can again accommodate guests who have severe health allergies. If I had more than one room, I would try to accommodate pets too, but can't do both.

SO-SO Shell Beach

We were not particularly happy with the accommodations. It was clean enough but messy. There were only two coffees and all the rest were green tea and the cupboard was very messy with trash.

The bathroom is unsafe with a two step tile drop and no bar to hold onto. My husband fell backwards the first night.

The walk way is very narrow and larger people would not be able to navigate.

The cost became much higher with all the fees from "Home Away", not the owner.

The owner was very pleasant to deal with.

We would not do the VRBO/Home Away again due to the fees - ridiculous!

Our friends were getting married near Pismo Beach & we opted this adorable studio instead of the hotel strip. The studio is clean, quiet & has its own lil private patio. Walkable to restuarants, beach & shops. If your not looking for an ocean view but piece & quiet, we highly recommend this place. It's great to have the option of joining the mainstream for fun & adventure, when ready head back to your own tranquil space.

The room was as described. This is a perfect hideaway with privacy. It is close to the beach and the neighborhood residents are friendly. The surrounding restaurants and shops were fantastic.

Exposed wiring, steep bathroom steps, an extremely narrow walkway in the back. You will find all of these. To the immediate right of the bathroom door, not seen in the picture, is an 18" step to the toilet. The step in front of you is 9". That is the one my husband fell down, injuring his rotator cuff. Mold stench also greets you in the bathroom. The place is not funky; it's dangerous. VRBO, what are you thinking?
