Isla Taboga, known as the 'Island of the Flowers,' is a quiet, beautiful island, a paradise of flora and fauna. Cool breezes provide relief from the heat of Panama City. An easy ferry ride delivers you to the dock where you will be freed from the pressures of the city, and welcomed by locals whose families have lived here for generations.

There are very few cars on the island and everything is reachable on foot. Great restaurants, nice beaches, friendly locals. There is also a health center with an excellent doctor on Isla Taboga.

We both grew up on the east coast but currently divide our time between Seattle and Panama.
Irene Hopkins and Dan Hopkins purchased this condo in 2010
We traveled to Panama in 2010, curious about all that we had read about retirement in Panama. We stayed on Isla Taboga for three nights and fell in love with the island. We had no intention of buying at that point, but the condos in the complex we bought into are extremely well built and maintained and we felt right at home immediately. Over the years, it just keeps getting better.
Isla Taboga is close to Panama City, but feels a world away. It is the perfect base for travels around the country or day trips into the city. When on Taboga, we are totally relaxed, enjoying the ocean breezes, hikes, restaurants, or just sitting around the pool. It's a place that inspires creativity. Bird watching is phenomenal both for avid birders and people, like us, who just love nature. Hummingbirds abound!
Vogue Magazine recently mentioned Isla Taboga as the #3 out of 5 reasons to visit Panama NOW!

Beautiful Island, beautiful property and wonderful hosts! Very quiet! I was well looked after and able to enjoy lots of great weather and relaxation! Thanks Dan and Irene
Our two weeks on Taboga were magical. Dan met us at the ferry and Irene welcomed us to the condo, giving us insights about our two week home and the island. The condo was adorable, beds were comfortable, balcony was great in the early morning and late afternoon for watching the ships line up to go through the Panama canal. The pool was wonderful for a morning swim or a way to cool off in the afternoon. The kitchen was well stocked and very convenient for making most of our meals. Dan and Irene introduced us to some fun and interesting people on the island who shared their stories. The local people on the island were friendly and gracious to people who only spoke. very little Spanish. As a couple in our 60's, we felt very safe even walking after dark. It is no wonder that they call this La Isla de Flores, as the island is abundant with .flowers. Stay here, you'll love it.
Dan and Irene are wonderful hosts! Their condo is well maintained, clean, nicely furnished and the kitchen has everything necessary for a relaxing vacation. The view is absolutely fantastic and the people of the island are very warm and friendly. Our only regret is that we booked for only 10 days - we plan on 30 days next year.
Initially, we planned to stay on Taboga Island for 5 days and had the good fortune of booking with Dan & Irene. On arrival they proved to be highly gracious hosts. Dan met us at the ferry, we had an orientation meeting & were provided with a handy booklet of information about the island.
Irene had highly recommended that we bring over groceries from the mainland and we took heed. The kitchen was well stocked with all kitchen utensils, blender, barbecue on deck.We loved the condo, immediately felt at home and asked if it would be possible to stay for an additional 10 days. It is really clean, light & airy. It has great view of the water. Dan lent us binoculars to patio whale or bird watch.
It is the island of floral & fauna and we just delighted in the planting on the grounds. The walls are covered with clematis, bourgenvilla, helliconia grows at the side of the house. The crystal clear pool is meticulously maintained by Jose day and night.
There are many challenging walks and it is an island to truly explore. You feel a history here, evident when beach combing, pieces of pottery from Delph or Edinburgh, or an old hotel that once stood on shore. Beach glass is a never-ending bounty of treasure. We went out to fish twice, organized with some local lads. We had an amazing time out on the water watching whales & dolphins catching loads of red snapper, sea bass
Dan & Irene helped us organize future shopping trips to the mainland by ringing a taxi, lending us cooler shopping bags & pointing us in the right direction. The long term residents of Pizarro were also so kind & helpful too providing not only spanish lessons but great information on Taboga itself.
We loved the locals on the island. Talking to them we found where to buy the flat of 24 beer for 17$, or ask one of the locals carrying fresh baguette & rolls & they will walk you up a winding path to a home where you can buy fresh bread daily. Other local residents gave us fresh papaya, coconut and bananas. Enjoyed the beach everyday
We decided that we couldn't leave and extended our stay at the condo to total of about 28 days. Had we known what a lovely place Tobaga is we would have booked the entire month outright. For many reasons, the beauty of the place, the friends we made, we will return to Taboga. I would recommend if you are thinking of staying to take your number of days and times that by three, even then you won't have enough time on this little gem of an island.
I stayed at this place while I was on taboga island,, this place is such a cute little place to stay at ,the people are so great that own it, they made us feel so welcome and by the second day i felt like we had been friends for years...the swimming pool was amazing surrounded by beautiful flowers, just an all around amazing stay , i would stay there again in a second , i was sad to leave when we had to go but grateful for the hospitality and people we got to meet , they really went all out to make us feel welcome and show us around.
This was our very 1st occasion using VRBO and we were thrilled that our hosts Dan and Irene made it so easy to feel reassured. The VRBO write up is exactly what you will find, it was perfect. The condo was clean, the beds were comfortable and the linens were crisp and fresh. We felt welcome from the moment we arrived at the condo and met our hosts. They were very gracious and made sure we had everything needed to ensure a comfortable stay. They can help you with translation for anything you might need on the island, we were able to arrange fishing excursions with ease and absolutely loved our time out catching various fish from barracuda, pargo, corvina, excellent in the frying pan! The pool at the condo certainly was an added bonus and Jose works so hard to keep it clean and clear. We had plenty of food with us when we arrived on the island but we were quite happy with the local establishments and the menus available. The long term residents at the condo were exceptional terrific to both of us, making us welcome and ensuring we had a terrific time. We certainly are going to miss our month on Taboga Island, but have brought home memories and new friends! Without a doubt, if we get back next winter, we will be calling Dan and Irene to reserve a spot in their condo.
