We will be back !

  • 5 of 5

We came to Hacienda la Rusa for our 7 th anniversary and first time in Mexico.

first, I will mention our not fav things :

1. wifi is there, but the signal was very weak inside our bungalow. 2 . there were no TVs in the bungalow, but at the same time, we realized we were happy to "disconnect" , swim, exercise, watch the ocean, read books.3. first couple nights , we were getting used to the village noises. 4. no US dollars exchange , you have to go back to the airport. 5. no real locks on the doors, but at the same time, the property is very safe, completely walled in and only registered guests are allowed on site and there is a safe deposit box in the room to keep cash and passports.

My top fave things:

1. Location - it's right in the village of Barra de Potosi, 2 seconds to the beach and a few more seconds to the lagoon.

2. The team behind Hacienda la Rusa : the owners , Stasya & Mike, delightful and generous with their time. You feel like family. Janet and Yogi, friendly , smiling and helpful . They will make sure this is your home , you will feel like you belong and you will want to come back.

3. Space : you have your own bungalow, which is your own little house and there are a lot of common grounds. Here , owners have their own bungalow, guests have their own, there are ONLY 4 rental bungalows, so maximum they accommodate 8 people, adults, no kids. And a LOT of space. Huge sun deck, space for yoga and zumba, dining terrace, and many nooks and crannies to hide. Gorgeous tropical garden and two swimming pools.

4. Animals: Stasya and Mike have organized a rescue and spay and neuter foundation, and sterilized over 1000 dogs and cats in the area. They started a small shelter , where you can volunteer if you want to go and walk the pups or bathe or help with whatever errands. In Hacienda la Rusa, they have their own dogs and cats, and while we were there there were two little kittens who were too young and Stasya had to keep them close to feed every 3 hours . If you are not big on animals or saving them, you might want to find a different place, but if you are animal lovers, this place will warm your heart, make you smile and cry happy tears at the same time.

5. Eco-friendly : refurbished furniture, LED and solar lights, glass plastic bottles used in construction , local organic produce add to the value and charm

I could keep writing on and on , we spent 2 weeks in Hacienda la Rusa and we had the most best time, can't wait to be back !

we keep coming back

  • 5 of 5

The exterior of the hotel is off-putting, however once inside it is gorgeous and boasts a European/Mexican decor. This BnB is so unique with something different and beautiful to see at every turn. Every room is different with lots of colour and comfortable beds. We stayed in Bella , overlooking the lounge pool and in Maria , overlooking the lap pool. While very quiet and tranquil inside , once you step outside you are in the middle of the village and right on beach, someone said it can be noisy at night, it probably can with dogs barking , surf slamming , but it didn't bother us, I used ear plugs one night when there was a wedding in the village, my husband slept right through. Hacienda is ideally located within short walking distance of many restaurants, little art and crafts gallery and the lagoon. If you have trouble climbing the stairs to bungalow Betsey . you might want to request a room on a lower floor. we had run out of pesos on our last day and did not have cash for the cab to the airport and the moment we mentioned that to Stasya and Mike , they were pulling their truck out and taking us to the airport, plus giving us cash for snacks and drinks while at the airport ! This is the world where trust, friendships, honesty and beauty still exist ! and we keep coming back to enjoy it !

Counting days till our next Visit !

  • 5 of 5

After reading hundreds reviews of a ton of places, we decided on Hacienda la Rusa. It did not disappoint. The location was perfect. It was right by the beach, next to the restaurants La Condessa and Nayito, and still in the village. The proximity to the beach, lagoon and the village was probably one of the major deal breakers for us, we knew we wanted to explore , kayak , swim, eat out at night, without calling a cab or walking for half an hour in a mid day heat. We have noticed that guests of other places that were located further on the beach, didn't even know about sunrise kayaking or birdwatching tours or delicious meals prepared in the village at night .

Stasya and Mike and their staff know how to really take care of their guests, it was a 5 star service 24/7 , the rooms were lovely , beds with super mattresses, soft linens and like a million of pillows, bathroom was stocked with bottled water, soaps, shampoo, conditioner, hand cream, bath towels. There was a mini fridge and a safe in our room.

When we arrived , we were greeted with Welcome Margarita, which was such a lovely gesture. Breakfast was FABULOUS! freshly baked breads with local coffee, fruit, and a main course was different every day, we tried omelettes, quiches, frittata a la Mexican style and chilaquiles were to die for.

Magical , Safe, Unforgetable

  • 5 of 5

So many foreigners are unreasonably terrified of ALL the Mexico, but it is very safe, and hacienda la Rusa was very secure. The property is fenced. It's right in the village. There are neighbors, and the dogs also help with the security, so it's very easy to relax. You can drive (20-40 mins) between here and Zihuatanejo via taxi, or by public transportation. In Barra de Potosi many houses don't even have doors.

The property is beautiful and spacious, with plenty of common and outdoor spaces in which to gather or be alone. The rooms are all unique and gorgeous. The place has great charm. From the street, the place looks like nothing special, but behind those walls is a tropical fairy tale. It's all green, lush, tropical, with soft colors and flowers everywhere, candles, music and sound of the surf nearby.

The dogs are definitely a part of the place. They do provide security, and who doesn't want to play with a puppy once in a while? There were three puppies and a kitten when we were there. Stasya runs local animal rescue. She's a wealth of information and is connected to the local community. Stasya and Mike, are funny, very laid back, kind and generous people . The very good natured staff will cook a big delicious breakfast for you, make you margaritas, teach you body surf, organize your tours and sights. We had a fantastic time!

Best Vacation Ever

  • 5 of 5

We recently returned from our first trip to Barra de Potosi and Hacienda la Rusa.

We are already getting ready to book our trip for next year. We did a lot of research

of Barra de Potosi and La Rusa. It was better than we expected. People are wonderful and friendly, the village is very safe. We spent many hours just lounging in and around the pools and talking, enjoying each others company.

We did do the kayaking and we all really enjoyed it, we also rode horses to Tortuga beach

and went fishing once. The Hacienda is elegant, simple and very comfortable.

The staff was amazing and took the best care of us. Maria and Jesus cooked for us,

cleaned for us, and made the most delicious Margaritas. La Rusa was always available to answer questions and make suggestions, we had a few interesting conversations and now I dream of living by the beach and open my bed and breakfast.

I can truly say this was one of the best vacations I have ever had.

So Special !!!

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a typical Mexican

village, away from the resort hotels and we found Barra de Potosi!

we had a great time, we enjoyed the atmosphere and the friendliest people ever.

Hacienda la Rusa is an incredible place with all the comfort amenities, good beds,

modern bathrooms etc etc, very well equipped, and seconds to the beach!

Thank you, Stasya for making our trip so special! Next time we will stay longer

and do all those fun things!
