Overview

About the property

Sleeps 4. 2 Bedrooms. 1 Full Bath, 1 Half Bath

This Cape Cod style house has been owned by our family since it was built in 1938. While small compared to houses being built in Chester County now, it is quite comfortable in the winter, and in warmer weather the screen porch is the perfect place to relax.

The two bedrooms are on the second floor: the larger one has a queen-sized bed and the smaller one has a full or double bed.

There is a full bathroom with a tile shower on the second floor, and a small combined laundry room/half bath on the ground floor. The kitchen while compact is well suited to cooking with a gas range and is completely stocked with cookware and dishes.

The house is situated on a two acre property and is quite private. The driveway has room for two cars. There is a second house on the property with its own driveway, and several other houses clustered near by, with a historic Quaker meeting house across the road.

About owner / property manager

I bought this last year, but I grew up here, and so did my mother. It was built in 1936 by my grandparents.

owner / property manager purchased this house in 2013

Why owner / property manager chose Brandywine Valley

I wanted to keep this property in our family for continuity. Chester County has a lot of large modern houses and also a lot of beautiful old farmhouses and barns: this is neither! It is a smaller Cape Cod style house built from a Better Homes and Gardens plan.

Modest home in a beautiful location.

Loved staying in this cute cottage. Gorgeous lawn surrounding the house with lots of trees and bird life. Spent many hours on the screened-in porch. Great location to Longwood Gardens, Winterthur and Brandywine River Museum of Art (all three highly recommended). Lovely rural feel without actually being too far from all amenities of a city. Kitchen had all utensils/pans we needed to prepare a few meals (including fun plates and glasses). Upstairs full bath updated and nice. Beds comfortable. A little 'musty' smelling downstairs, but that's part of staying in an older home. Would stay again.

A charming home

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely spot. I feel lucky to have found it. I booked our 2 night stay at the last minute, and Ben was quick to respond to all my questions. You are in good hands with Ben! I visited with my 82-year old mother (to visit Longwood Gardens, Brandywine River Art Museum and Nemours Estate) and this was the perfect location. Clean, comfortable, has everything we needed, close to all that we wanted to see, but also felt remote. I hope to bring my husband and kids (8 and 10) one day.
