About Martha Wickett-Schrock
Camp Tosebo is owned and operated by a group of friends and family that love northern Michigan and its natural beauty. We purchased the Camp to preserve its historic value, placing the majority of the property in a conservation easement to insure that this special place will be enjoyed by generations to come. Several of us live on the property and enjoy getting to meet and befriend our guests.
Martha Wickett-Schrock purchased this Lodge in 2004
Why Martha Wickett-Schrock chose Manistee
Our group has had family ties to Portage Lake and Camp Tosebo for over 50 years. One of our owners was a Tosebo camper 'back in the day', and leads our effort to preserve camp artifacts and the history of our special place. Camp Tosebo continues to weave it's magic with the many guests that return again and again with their family and friends. We hope to welcome you and yours to the Tosebo clan!
What makes this Lodge unique
Come prepared to relax! With its charm and 'back in time' ambiance, you will experience the same feeling that we got when we first walked through these well preserved historic homes and beautiful northern Michigan forest trails. A short stroll through historic Red Park takes you to our sandy beach on the fresh clear waters of Portage Lake. Lake Michigan is accessed easily by a short boat ride through the channel, or a short drive to nearby public beaches. We are active people and enjoy boating, fishing, swimming, golf, tennis, hiking, mushrooming, gardening, and socializing. If this sounds like you, you'll love Camp Tosebo!

A Dream for Family Reunions!
Our large family had such an incredible time at Camp Tosebo and we would highly recommend it, especially for families with small kiddos. We went the last week of July 2016 with 46 people aged 2 to 91 years and there were tons of activities for everyone!
The small kids (2-6 yrs) loved the freedom of running all over the grassy hill and swimming in the protected section of Portage Lake. The older kids (7-15 yrs) played tons of basketball and had fun exploring the trails.
The adults enjoyed visiting on the shady porch while watching the kids play, cooking meals together in the great kitchen and playing tons of cards in the huge dinning hall area.
- Brought in a square dance caller! Karen Dunnam had our whole family dancing on the camp's basketball court. There's even power up there!
- Used the porch of the Clubhouse as a stage and had a talent show
- Memorable campfires with family sing-a-longs
- Set up our Pickleball net on the basketball court. Our competitive tennis players were impressed with the pristine courts at Red Park, but Pickleball was easier for a wide range of ages.
- Fantastic parade as part of Arcadia Daze (seems like every summer week has a cute celebration in some nearby town)
The sleeping areas worked well too! The young families appreciated privacy in the Trunk House, Kit Cottage and the Welcome House. The 40+ year olds enjoyed staying in the Clubhouse and the oldest members were very comfortable in the ground floor Caretakers Apartment (with AC!). My husband and I stayed up in the Rustic Cabins with the "tough couples" (aged 25-38) and we actually loved it! No power or wifi, but there are two flushing toilets up there and it's perfect for late night campfires!
Random discoveries from 1st time MI vacationers:
- Meyers has everything! A giant local store ~15 min away
- Not having AC in all units was completely fine
- Mosquitoes were minimal and didn't cause any issues
- The sun is up until after 9pm in the summer, so you have more time to play!
- Sleeping Bear Dunes wasn't ideal for small kids. We agreed Camp Tosebo and its beach was way more fun.
- Not having a washer and dryer was the only tricky part for us, but we did several trips to the laundromat.
Our family will deeply cherish the memories and we're so grateful to the owners of Camp Tosebo for sharing their incredible spot with us! They were easy to work with and super responsive.
Perfect Family Reunion Site
The lovingly restored historic Clubhouse easily accommodated our 5 families which included 3 generations and 5 kids 11-16. Each family cooked 3 meals in the well outfitted commercial kitchen. We used the large dining room for crafts, card and game playing, as well as family meals. The large living room was perfect for karaoke and conversation, the game room filled with puzzles, board games and toys, and the charming library was a restful spot for reading. Wonderful memorabilia showing the camp's colorful history graces the walls throughout this beautiful 100 year old Victorian. 9 comfortable bedrooms and 7-1/2 baths provide both privacy and elbow room. The 50 acre property allows room to roam as well as all kinds of sports activities and necessary equipment. The fire pit with log seating is perfect for making s'more and telling ghost stories. We appreciated the sandy beach, chaise lounges and swim platform in chest high water. On 2 separate nights we watched fireworks from the fairgrounds and shooting stars from the beach--a serendipity extra.
Our families also enjoyed dune climbing at Sleeping Bear Nat'l Seashore, tubing & kayaking the Manistee River, horseback riding, hiking the Audubon Nature Trail, and biking the Betsie Valley Trail. This was a wonderful experience for each of us and not one kid mentioned missing video games! camptosebo.com has more helpful information about this unique property and the owners will cheerfully answer your questions. You will love this place.

Great place for a family reunion or gathering of friends!
We've spent lots of time at this property. Camp Tosebo is a wonderful place with hiking trails, fire pit, tennis and basketball 'up the hill' and a wonderful private beach. The Clubhouse has a big, well appointed kitchen (and grills) and we've spent many wonderful hours gathered at the picnic tables outside or in the big dining area inside. It comes equipped with games and nice sitting areas in front of the fireplace or on the wicker furniture in the library. The bedrooms (many have ensuite bathrooms) are comfortable and cozy. The memories of time spent with friends at Camp Tosebo are some of our favorite parts of summer.
