This newly renovated 92 year old house echoes all the charm of a simpler time, but with all the creature comforts to make your family and friends feel right at home today. Respect for the period and integrity of the house is evident in the artful decor. Three bedrooms up stairs off the sunny sitting room have two double beds and one twin bunk bed. The second floor bath features the original claw foot tub next to a window to relax and enjoy the beauty of the season in the woods outside. A bathroom with a walk in shower and laundry area share the first floor with the kitchen and greater living/dining room. The tv and cd player/radio may add to visiting, reading, playing games or napping in the cozy greater room.
The kitchen is fully furnished with gas range, microwave, dishwasher and refrigerator along with everything needed to prepare meals. The deck off the kitchen, complete with grill and table and chairs, is perfect for any meal time. It is always comfortable with forced air heat, air conditioning and ceiling fans. All bath and bed linens are provided. A free standing gas fireplace will take the chill of anytime. A favorite is the front porch swing with a cup of tea, coffee or glass of wine, especially during a spring or summer shower.
Seventeen acres of virgin woods on hilly terrain just out the door make exploring on the cut trails an adventure whether with a walking stick in the spring, summer or fall or on cross country skies or snow shoes in the winter.
Nearby points of interest include the Ice Age hiking and biking trails (road traffic is very low), Sunset Lake County Park with a beautiful beach and picnic area. Flume Creek just down the road is a Class A Trout Stream. The Iola Winter Park features beautifully groomed and lighter cross country ski trails as well as ski jumping ramps. You may want to take in the Iola Winter Carnival in February, Iola Car Show (one of the largest in the US) in July, the MREA Energy Fair in June, the Rising Star Mill Art Show in May, the Hidden Studios Art Tour featuring 9 artist studios the first weekend in October when the fall color is spectacular. There is so much to do with Waupaca and Stevens Point 20ish miles away in either direction that you may need to stay an extra week just to relax and rejuvinate where the quiet is really quiet and the stars are really bright.
We were lucky enough to rent this beautiful house for thanksgiving. The owners Brenda and Ken were so thoughtful and made sure we had everything we needed. The house itself was laid out and supplied perfectly. Plenty of room for all. Loved the fireplace which you could see from all of the main living areas. The property itself is picturesque. There are walking trails all throughout. The surrounding towns had galleries and small business to visit as well as the local brewery Central Waters. Hope to make another visit back in the summer, the is canoeing and kayaking on the tomorrow river which looks like a lot of fun.
Thank you again!
The Livingston Family and Friends
My husband and I stayed here for a week with our 11 year old grandson and his parents. The house is awesome, and the owners Brenda and Ken are wonderful to work with. They welcomed us the first day, and checked with us periodically to make sure we had everything so, after staying here a week, they felt like friends. Others have mentioned the delicious brownies and lovely fresh flowers that we saw when we got there. It made us feel really welcome.
The house is beautifully decorated and wonderfully designed and updated, with everything you might want on a vacation stay. We loved the bedrooms, and the beds were super comfortable. It also has a neat kids' room with a separate attached play area. There is also a hidden area in one of the bedrooms where our grandson loved to sit with a book. It was like an “indoor private fort” for him.
There is a wonderful porch swing in front, as well as a back deck, which overlook the gorgeous flower gardens and woods nearby. There was an apple tree close to the house, and the owners provided an apple picker that could be used to get the apples.
Though the house is in a lovely wooded quiet area, it was easy to get to everything. Sunset Lake is nearby, with a nice sandy beach for swimming and areas that are great for fishing. There are also many picnic benches in the area, and woods all around.
We also went into Stevens Point and Wausau. We went to Menasha, which is near Appleton, to the Science Museum and Planetarium at the University of Wisconsin location there. Everywhere we went was a reasonable distance away, and driving in the beautiful area was an enjoyable part of our vacation.
The 5 of us definitely would like to return. My husband and I would also love to go again during another part of the year so we could enjoy the freestanding fireplace, as our time there was such a wonderful experience.
We pretty much pick our VRBO experiences by how amenable a property is to having a good experience with our dogs. This house totally met our expectations. It is beautiful inside and out. A gorgeous and meticulously-cared-for garden greets you as you come up the driveway. Wandering through the house is fun as there are little nooks and crannies and rooms throughout. It has a country feel that will appeal to your longing for the olden days yet has updated amenities-- central air, hardwood floors that are gentle on slipping dog paws, all the kitchen items you could need, a large dining table in the middle of it all, DVD selection, WIFI, games, books, magazines, washer/dryer. Behind the house there are woods, and trails have been cut through it. Deer shoot past the trees when you least expect it. Make sure you sit up on the second floor in the rocking chair at the window and watch the little wild life neighbors scurry about their day, or you can wax nostalgic with one of the olllllld magazines found throughout the house. The second floor "reception area" as we called it was a neat little centerpiece of the floor and was the perfect place to sit and make friends with the house. The owners have left little things for you to use that you might not have packed-- an umbrella, binoculars, walking sticks.
Home was clean and well-maintained, and owner was easy to communicate with and eager to meet whatever needs came up. Would totally recommend this home to my friends and family... especially those with dogs.
We went to Stevens Point for supplies everyday, and there is a dog/cat supply store there on Main ST in the downtown area where you can bring your dog. We also visited stores in the Plover area, including bringing our dogs inside Petco. Our goal for this trip was to unwind and read, and we accomplished that goal which means we didn't see much of the surrounding area. It sounds like there are lots of outdoor activities nearby.
The house was cool and clean. The yard is Gorgeous. We had a wonderful time!
This Florida grandmother loved staying here for a week this spring and was able to keep my young grandchildren entertained with the "secret" playroom and paths in the woods. It was also a lovely place for my dog Baloo to enjoy as well. The home had more amenities than expected for a place hidden in the middle of north-central Wisconsin. The hosts made sure all went well and were very flexible and accommodating. Highly recommend.
I stayed here with my wife and two children and we had a fantastic time exploring the woods and the kids loved all the nooks and crannies in the house. The house itself was spotless and very well maintained. It's in a great location for summertime activities like swimming and fishing. The owners were very helpful and responsive. If we're back in the area we would stay there again.
