About the property

Charming 92 Year Old House In The Woods With All The Creature Comforts.

This newly renovated 92 year old house echoes all the charm of a simpler time, but with all the creature comforts to make your family and friends feel right at home today. Respect for the period and integrity of the house is evident in the artful decor. Three bedrooms up stairs off the sunny sitting room have two double beds and one twin bunk bed. The second floor bath features the original claw foot tub next to a window to relax and enjoy the beauty of the season in the woods outside. A bathroom with a walk in shower and laundry area share the first floor with the kitchen and greater living/dining room. The tv and cd player/radio may add to visiting, reading, playing games or napping in the cozy greater room.

The kitchen is fully furnished with gas range, microwave, dishwasher and refrigerator along with everything needed to prepare meals. The deck off the kitchen, complete with grill and table and chairs, is perfect for any meal time. It is always comfortable with forced air heat, air conditioning and ceiling fans. All bath and bed linens are provided. A free standing gas fireplace will take the chill of anytime. A favorite is the front porch swing with a cup of tea, coffee or glass of wine, especially during a spring or summer shower.

Seventeen acres of virgin woods on hilly terrain just out the door make exploring on the cut trails an adventure whether with a walking stick in the spring, summer or fall or on cross country skies or snow shoes in the winter.

Nearby points of interest include the Ice Age hiking and biking trails (road traffic is very low), Sunset Lake County Park with a beautiful beach and picnic area. Flume Creek just down the road is a Class A Trout Stream. The Iola Winter Park features beautifully groomed and lighter cross country ski trails as well as ski jumping ramps. You may want to take in the Iola Winter Carnival in February, Iola Car Show (one of the largest in the US) in July, the MREA Energy Fair in June, the Rising Star Mill Art Show in May, the Hidden Studios Art Tour featuring 9 artist studios the first weekend in October when the fall color is spectacular. There is so much to do with Waupaca and Stevens Point 20ish miles away in either direction that you may need to stay an extra week just to relax and rejuvinate where the quiet is really quiet and the stars are really bright.

Perfect for a small family gathering

  • 5 of 5

We had a great winter weekend here, the six of us (my husband and I, our two adult daughters, one son-in-law and a 4-year-old grandson). The kitchen is well equipped to make great meals, the dining and living rooms are so comfortable to play games or to just chat. Our grandson loved the play room and the secret room and the toys and books in them.

The hosts provided just about anything you could want or need: comfortable beds, tons of towels, lots of dishes and utensils in the kitchen, all in a very pleasantly decorated setting. Clearly much thought went into making this lovely old house just right for guests.

Quality over flash cottage.

  • 5 of 5

The house isn't huge or flashy. But it is a wonderful place to relax. There wasn't anything we needed that wasn't there. The dining room table had plenty of room, the living room furniture was comfortable to sit in, the beds were comfortable and there were more than enough pillows and blankets. We had 5 (quick) showers in a row and everyone had hot water and plenty of towels. The weather was very cold while we were there but the house didn't have any drafts and was easy enough to keep warm. The house is clearly well taken care of and cared for, we were even greeted by Ken and Brenda upon our arrival. It was a great value and I would stay here again. Thanks!

Wonderful place to meet for Sisters Weekend!

  • 5 of 5

This charming home was exactly what we hoped for -- fully equipped kitchen, large dining table, comfortable living room, and plenty of bedroom space. The home is located close enough for shopping in Stevens Point, and plenty of room for brisk walks in the woods. We four sisters had a wonderful weekend!

Perfect Get-A-Way

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful space to get-a-way and relax. Quiet location with little-to-no traffic. We took long walks exploring the roads, as well as the back woods. The house is a step back in time - very comfortable and plenty of space. Very cozy home with everything we needed. Be forewarned, cell service will probably be limited; this was welcomed in my desire to disconnect. The house has very good WiFi to stay as connected as desired.

Absolutely wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived a bit earlier than the planned time, yet the owner was gracious and kind, giving us a tour of the house along with a bit of history. The outside was beautiful for a walk in the crisp autumn air and inside comfortable with old charm. A claw foot tub helped mom relax, while modern appliances helped with chores. All the little hideouts throughout the home were especially fun for the children! Even at ages 10 and 13, they were caught in an imagination land while hiding out in all the little nooks and corners made just for them. Definitely a family friendly home and highly recommended!

Perfect Quiet Getaway

  • 5 of 5

The care and attention to detail is obvious in the quaint cottage in the woods. The updates are well done, and the home as all the amenities you could think of needing. The owners are very accommodating and friendly. You can tell they enjoy having guests stay at their property. The paths they have created in the woods in the yard are perfect for a morning walk before heading off to the nearby beach for the day. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this property.
