About the property

3 bed, 3 bath, sleeps 7

Welcome to rustic elegance on pristine Lake Glenville! Dates now open for spring and early summer available. You will relax immediately! This Honka log package was custom designed by the owners, then the log package was shipped from Finland. The home is located in Tater Knob Estates in Glenville, NC overlooking pristine Lake Glenville. We are located on the east side of the lake allowing for fabulous sunsets and easy access into Cashiers and Highlands.

Enjoy evening cocktails overlooking the lake with a sunset to make you gasp. Then you will love preparing meals in the Thermadore appliance kitchen with gas cooktop, electric range and oversized refrigerator. The kitchen, dining room, living area and screen porch on the main floor all overlook the lake.

This cabin was completed in 2008 with 2014 our first season of vacation rentals. There are three floors allowing for privacy for everyone. The top floor contains the master suite with king bedroom featuring a gas fireplace, large luxurious custom bathroom with Jacuzzi tub and separate walk in shower, adjoining loft for reading, sitting or working if you must. There is an attached deck outside the bedroom which is the highest point in the house, allowing for a spectacular view of the lake.

The main floor as you enter the front or back door contains the living room with wood burning fireplace, dining room, guest bedroom with full bath, kitchen and laundry area. This floor allows guests who do not wish to use stairs to have access to everything they need on one floor. It is easily reached from the adjoining carport. Off the living room is the covered screen porch which features a wood burning fireplace. The view from this area is the same as the front deck. You will love sitting here in the evenings while making S'mores and listening to the sounds from outside as the sun goes down and the evening stars appear. Be sure to spend some time on the porch during the daytime curled up on the hammock reading.

One flight of stairs down is the lower level with a lobby leading to a double bedroom and full bathroom. This area has carpeted floors and is perfect for a couple, teenagers, or guests. The downstairs living area contains a ping pong table and has access to the lower deck and outside.

This log home has central heat and air for complete comfort regardless of the weather. It contains two gas fireplaces and two wood burning fireplaces with logs provided. The floors on the main and upper levels are antique heart pine. All windows and doors have double pane glass. There is a custom designed audio/visual system with three tvs, dvd and stereo system. There is also wireless internet. Enjoy luxurious linens and everything you need in the well equipped kitchen.

There are so many activities in the area for everyone. Lake Glenville has 26 miles of shoreline with deep water managed by Duke Energy for the cleanest highest lake levels. The Tater Knob Estates development has a beach area for swimming. Boats can be rented at two locations, including nearby Signal Ridge Marina. Hiking trails and water falls are in abundance in the Glenville/Cashiers/Highlands area. This cabin is located five miles from Cashiers which has charming restaurants, shopping, a major chain grocery store, churches, antiques shops, as well as historical points of interest. Don't miss touring the Taylor Grady House here. Highlands is a ten mile trip from here, and the shopping and dining are not to be missed. There is also a summer stock theatre and other tourist features.

Venturing on some further day trips could include Brevard or Asheville with the Biltmore House, more hiking, or the art scene.

At Mountain Charm you can plan to pack in activities every day or do nothing but watch the many birds and various forms of wildlife in the area! You will be relaxed and refreshed at the end of your stay wishing you could stay longer and looking forward to your next visit.

About Anne Cheney

The owners now live in Florida but have lived in Cullowhee, NC in the past and love to come to Mountain Charm when they have a chance. They are from Georgia originally, but one was a professor at Western Carolina while the other did grad work here. They made sure the children were introduced to the area at a young age through camp and school. The mountains are a part of all of them. They are looking forward sharing their home with you.

Anne Cheney purchased this house in 2008

Why Anne Cheney chose Glenville

We purchased this property in 1989 but did not begin construction on the log home until 2006. The first time we viewed the property we were breath taken by the view. We are still amazed at it every time we gaze off the front deck! We also love all of the people here. The locals are so friendly and helpful and other residents of Tater Knob all offer insights to us. We learn from someone every day.

What makes this house unique

While vacationing in nearby Maggie Valley in 2005 we happened to see a log home we admired. It happened to be the Honka Log Home show house. We stopped to inquire about building one ourselves. We learned that the log packages are created in Finland from arctic pine, custom designed and shipped to the US. We first drew our design on a napkin, then worked with the Honka designer in Denver to get things just perfect. It took almost two years, but we find we wouldn't change a thing! During the two years of building we were buying some custom cabinetry for the living area from Florida which is reclaimed wood from The Netherlands, as well as moving the family antiques up to Glenville. Everything, including the entire log package, was stored at the nearby Glenville storage facility for the two years it took to complete the building. Even the contractor came over from Wanyesville every day to supervise the work.

We spent Thanksgiving here, and it was perfect! The pictures do not do it justice. It was so cozy, yet large and upscale. Four fireplaces (we used three), and we had the main one going from morning till night when we were there. We played ping-pong and had so much fun. My husband and son-in-law even taught our four-year-old granddaughter how to play poker! Lovely decks, which we used a lot, sipping wine and loving the view. The view, by the way, was amazing — and changed constantly. Now I want to stay here in the spring to enjoy the lake more, and in the fall when the leaves are colorful — can only imagine how beautiful that would be. The owner was great, very helpful and hospitable. I would love to stay here again.

gorgeous views

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful property with stunning views of Lake Glenville. Plan to spend at least one day just reading on the screened porch or picnic on your open deck. You don't need to hike to see this view! We were a group of only 3 plus toy poodle and had lots of room for privacy. My mother stayed in the ground floor suite, great for anyone with mobility issues. The kitchen was fully equipped with high end appliances and large dining area overlooking the lake. Furnishings and decor throughout are beautiful and well maintained. You are staying in a luxury resort at a great value especially for a group. Many options for dining and shopping Cashiers and Highlands are easy drives. We had a problem with water pressure and the owner responded immediately and followed up promptly. The treat bag on arrival made us feel welcome! Thanks for a very special birthday fall getaway! Highly recommend for all ages.

We loved our stay at the Log House! The pictures online just gave a small hint to the charm and amenities that we enjoyed. Our hope is to return for a much longer stay next year. The owners were very gracious and made us feel like old friends.

Very charming, well equipped and centrally located with incredible views of Lake Glenville

This cabin is really outstanding. It is furnished in gorgeous antiques - everywhere you look you notice something unique. The kitchen is a chef's dream - I wanted to take that Thermidore cooktop home with me. The copper pans and a plate/dish/bowl in every size. The bathrooms are very high end with those body shower heads coming at you from multiple angles. It was too warm for us to use but a fireplace inside and out. I haven't even mentioned the screened in porch with a fireplace - furnished with matching antique wicker furniture and hammock The master bedroom suite in the loft is magnificent with a commanding view of the lake. This place has plenty of room for a large family to stay comfortably plus you are minutes from Cashiers and 30 minutes from Highlands. There is a gourmet Ingalls grocery store in Cashiers and plenty of excellent restaurants in Cashiers and Highlands. I hope you enjoy your stay at the Cheyney's home as much as we did. Don't be surprised if you see humming birds while you're there
