A beautiful setting and peaceful location, this charming house has history and personality. Every day there I wished the house were mine or that the owners would consider adopting me. It is a wonderful place to relax, hike, swim, boat, bike, cook, and paddle board. It might be best appreciated by vacationers for whom watching the sunset is a priority and a treat.
Wonderful Place To Stay
This home is a treasure; it is authentic, spacious, and the location is spectacular. The owners are extremely accommodating and easy to work with, providing all the amenities you could want, with plenty of dishes, cookware, and serve ware available in the old-fashioned butler's pantry, and bikes, towels, chairs, and outdoor dining available for all of your outdoor activities. Our only disappointment was that we can't afford a place like this of our own! The family who owns this property are lucky indeed, and we feel fortunate that we had the opportunity to stay here.
Big House VRBO Listing
Enjoy this classic waterfront home with a mooring for your boat (up to 22’)! Spend your days relaxing, or not, watching boats of every kind entering and leaving Sakonnet Harbor; collecting shells and “treasures” from the shore; kayaking, fishing and swimming off the rocks (has a rope to help in getting out); playing sports and games, visiting, reading and napping on the large front lawn; and at the end of the day, cooking out with spectacular sunsets.
The main house sleeps 7 comfortably in four bedrooms on the second floor: 1 queen with bath, 2 with twins and 1 with single. The latter three share a full bathroom. A few steps away is the Guest House with 1 king bedroom, 1 bedroom with 2 child sized bunk beds and a full bath.
The first floor of the main house includes a back hall/laundry area, lavatory, kitchen, pantry, sun porch, dining and living rooms. There is cable TV and Internet, dishwasher, disposal, convection microwave oven and charcoal grill.
Two beaches are located less than a mile walk, or bike ride, away and sailing lessons are available from the nearby Sakonnet Yacht Club.
Little Compton is a lovely rural town with every amenity; well provisioned general store (Wilbur’s), bank, post office, library, 3 churches, gas station, liquor store, community center that offers soccer & lacrosse, an Art Café that offers java, tea etc. and art classes, playground at the Wilbur McMahon School (very essential if you have small children), a CSA (Wishing Stone Farm) and 2 vegetable stands.
Newport’s historic “Summer Cottages,” such as the Vanderbilt’s “The Breakers,” shops and restaurants are less than an hour away and interesting to visit, even if you don’t have a rainy day. Another historic place to visit is New Bedford, an old whaling town with outstanding museums, which is located approximately 45 minutes east of Little Compton.
