We have been in love with St John since our Honeymoon 28 years ago. Every year I would tell my husband, 'I do not want a Birthday Present, Valentines Hoopla or Christmas Gift, I just want a week alone with you on St John! And that is what we did, through the lean years and the flush years. We would come back to our favorite island, St John! Having traveled extensively around the World and the Caribbean for business, we would always say, 'it's nice but it is not St John.' When the St John Bug bites you, it becomes a passion!! I really can not pick one thing that makes St John so special for us. We love the National Park, its trails, beaches and fabulous snorkeling! Crystal clear warm water, sand like talcum powder, uncrowded beaches and new sea life to discover each day! We adore the local citizens of the island who have always welcomed us warmly and graciously! There are not many places left in the world where you are greeted everywhere you go with a 'Good Morning' 'Good Afternoon' Have A Wonderful Day'! And tourists are expected to return the greeting or start the greeting before doing business with a person. The slower pace of 'Island Time' is very easy to fall into. 'Limin' (hanging out, usually with a drink) is a way of life! The perfect year round weather, the temperature only fluctuates 8-10 degrees between Winter and Summer. Wearing Flip Flops year round is a definite added plus! Our fabulous restaurants, from gourmet 5 star restaurants, to our local Caribbean fare sometimes purchased from a truck. Either of these meals could easily be your favorite of the week. I think our favorite part of St John, Is now that we really live here! Every year when we got off the ferry it felt like we were coming home and now we really are :)
We looked at many homes for sale on St John, but I really wanted to build to get the house I really wanted. I wanted to be North Chocolate Hole, with a panoramic ocean view. I did not want to be in a new development which means you might have to put up with building noise for another 10-20 years. I wanted an established neighborhood, like Rock Ridge Road and I wanted to be at the top. And well we are :)
Loved this home! And really loved this suite. The view was spectacular! And the suite and the house itself were so were so lovely and comfortable. I would highly recommend this suite, or any suite in this home, to any couple looking for the perfect place to come home to and wake up to while on St. John! Beth has thought of everything and it definitely shows in how well the suites are appointed and the amenities are stocked and shared! The views from the whole house are wonderful, and the proximity to Cruz Bay and other conveniences are hard to beat! I researched ALOT prior to this trip and this place keep coming back to me each time I searched and I knew that it was the right choice. And my husband definitely agreed! Mike and Mark were fabulous hosts! Don't look any further than St. John Guest Suites for a place to stay. If you are with a larger group (girls, or family) consider renting this suite as well as any of the other three suites at the house. The house grounds are so private and beautifully landscaped! We will absolutely be back to stay at this lovely home again.
I was a solo traveler looking for the St John villa experience without having to pay the price for a large property where I would have a lot of unused space. I was debating booking one of the hotels on the island when I stumbled across the Sea View Guest Suite, and I'm so glad that I did. The property was wonderful and Mike and Mark were perfect hosts from start to finish (At one point I was having trouble with my jeep rental and when Mike found out he offered to, and did, drive me down to the rental company to have it switched out when I was feeling a little uneasy about driving it myself). When I arrived on St John, Mike met me at the jeep rental company (you definitely need to rent a car and I'd highly recommend a jeep to get up the driveway) and escorted me to the property which is just a short drive from Cruz Bay. As noted by other reviewers the owners provide a welcome basket with snacks, drinks, maps, and even a bottle of rum. The Sea View is perfect for a solo traveler or a couple with a single room and small kitchenette. The room was impeccably clean and the bed was so comfortable. The balcony views are breathtaking and the infinity pool is perfect for taking a dip to cool off from the hot Carribbean sun. The suites are a short drive to the famous North Shore Beaches. The room has several St John guide books which I used extensively to plan my days. Overall I had a wonderful vacation and would highly recommended any of the rooms at the St John Guest Suites. The property is beautiful and Mike and Mark are top notch when it comes to property managers and customer service. Thank you so much for helping make my vacation wonderful!
I can't imagine a better place to stay. St. John had seemed too good to be true in the months leading up to our trip, and after a rough day of travel that ran us ragged, my girlfriend and I were second guessing ourselves with every minute that passed during a layover at the San Juan airport.
When Beth picked us up from the ferry, though, all our worries faded pretty quickly. She took us to pick up our jeep (through Courtesy, which we recommend) and gave us a quick tour of the island before taking us back to the suites. She supplied us with maps, books, a basket of snacks and a bottle of rum, and her graciousness didn't slow a bit during our stay (she even offered to give me her own sunglasses when she found out I had forgotten a pair). I can't imagine a more accommodating host.
The property is just astounding. We stayed in the Sea View suite, a small(ish) room with a kitchenette. It was perfect for a couple's getaway. It boasts it's own patio with a breathtaking view. There was a grill on the patio and another near the gorgeous infinity pool, though we didn't end up doing much of our own cooking.
St. John is an utterly utopic island. No traffic lights, no sense of urgency. The best views and beaches in the world. Incredible snorkeling and great food. I can't wait tk go back, and will definitely be returning to the Guest Suites.
Maho had the best snorkeling. More turtles and rays than we could count, plus a nurse shark, squid, and a huge spotted eagle ray.
The Longboard was our favorite place to get drinks - the frozen painkillers are incredible.
Zozo's gave me the best meal I've ever had: grilled swordfish and clams casino.
Stayed here for a week in the Sea View room downstairs. Perfect for a couple (all the rooms are though). Beth had thought of everything in the room. Dishes, soap, condiments, paper towels/plates, coffee even a nice welcome basket with fruit, nuts and a bottle of rum with a couple beers/cokes in the fridge. Basically your place is stocked with all the stuff you'd buy at a villa and not use all of it. She even had a soft sided cooler and hard cooler for our use. I know I am missing a few things but having traveled with a suitcase full of stuff before this was a huge plus!
The room was extremely clean and well taken care of. Bed was comfy and linens/towels were great as well. We cooked breakfast in every morning and ate a couple lunches and a dinner in our room. Grill worked great as we cooked a few things on there. The view from this room is nice, but honestly it's second to upstairs on the pool deck and the other two units. The pool upstairs is amazing as well with a view for miles. The southern exposure is nice but can be a bit much with all day sun.
Sea view and Lily are the more private units since they're downstairs from the parking area, but honestly they're all private. Unless you run into someone you'd think you're the only ones there. Most days we had to pool to ourselves in the afternoon.
The location of Jim and Beth's place is perfect. Few minute drive to Cruz and access to north shore from either Cruz or Centerline. Couldn't ask for a better location honestly. Just up from the Westin if you are familiar.
Both Jim and Beth were extremely accommodating. We had a couple minor issues with the room but they were both solved the following day. Beth keeps you in the loop via email before arrival and then via text message if there is a problem while with them. Jim took us for a hike up to the reef bay trail and petroglyphs from trail not on the national park maps. Was a hike we may not have done but very happy we did. Even despite a tweaked ankle my wife was very happy we went and would do it again in a heartbeat. If Jim offers this hike take him up on it. Would recommend 3 bottles of water per person and a solid breakfast before.
Would we stay here again? You bet and would recommend to anyone wanting a villa-esque stay on St John but don't have the traveling companions to pay for a villa.
We stayed in the Sea View Villa and had an amazing stay. Jim and Beth have created a beautiful home with great villas. Each unit has privacy and everything you will need in the villa. It was nice to come back from a long day at the beach to a quiet and serene environment. The view is better than the pictures show from the infinity pool! We really enjoyed the close proximity to Cruz Bay and its restaurants, along with easy access to the North Shore Beaches. Our favorite beach was Maho and grabbing a quick sandwich and some drinks for our cooler (provided by Jim and Beth) made for a fantastic beach experience. Providing clean towels, beach chairs, water loungers, and coolers (ice machine at pool!) was a great added amenity. Jim and Beth are beyond accommodating before and during our trip. Beth is prompt and thorough with the booking process for the villa. They were able to provide great knowledge into the island, activities, restaurants and anything that might occur during your stay. They are truly "salt of the earth" individuals and made this vacation exceed our expectations. We will be back for sure!
The photos and descriptions of the property simply do not do it justice - Beth and Jim truly thought of everything to make a perfect and affordable place to stay on St. John. We stayed in the Lily suite. Everything was incredibly clean and well maintained, the bed/sheets/towels were all comfortable, and the welcome basket with crackers, cheese, nuts, coffee, sodas, and water were a welcome treat. They had beach towels, coolers, and chairs for our use, and they were available and helpful with any questions we had. And the pool with its view was dramatic and peaceful at the same time, providing a perfect place to cool down after a day at the beach. I'm pretty sure Beth and Jim even directed the stars where to go at night to provide for the best stargazing view, complete with a shooting star.
