Home with the spirit of NWALLINS.

  • 4 of 5

This home is a typical example of New Orleans shotgun style architecture with 4 rooms, front to back, parlor to kitchen. The neighborhood is near the boundary between the Lower Garden District and the Warehouse District, an area that is going through a renewal. The sidewalks are a bit rocky but the atmosphere is comfortable. It is a short walk to Magazine Street, a location with miles of characteristic shops. The street car line is a fair walk (1/2 mile or so) away, transportation into other districts such as the French Quarter. The house itself is a bit run down, but clean and we found it comfortable as a living space. The kitchen is well provisioned, linens plentiful, and bed comfortable. There is a little courtyard in back that we accessed for breakfast and grilling. The owner was easy to contact, full of useful information, and quickly responded to requests for items, including making an immediate repair of an issue when he was notified. The bedrooms are both upstairs and the bathroom is downstairs (as we were warned), making this problematic for some who would find this a challenge. I would recommend this place to most of my friends but not to those with bad knees.

Gorgeous home in a beautiful area of Nola - Perfect location for our family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

The photos of this home are beautiful and in person, the home is even more gorgeous, if that's possible. Staying at this home in the Garden District really became a special part of our New Orleans experience, just as much as all of the beautiful sites we visited and amazing meals we enjoyed. We had a car, but we never even used it. We enjoyed an easy 10-minute walk each morning to the "Hop On/Hop Off" bus stop or the Street Car stops, both nearby. We had incredible meals in the area too. The home owner, Sabin, really goes above and beyond to make sure you're comfortable and have everything you need. He wants you to enjoy this beautiful city and gives so many great suggestions and tips for your stay. This was the perfect home for our family vacation to New Orleans.

Experience New Orleans living at its finest!

  • 5 of 5

Staying at this house gives you the true feeling of New Orleans. Loved the warm NO colors of purple, yellow and orange. Went with my mother and two sisters and had a fabulous time. Backyard courtyard with fountain is adorable and enjoyed sitting on the front porch watching the people go by. Convenient to most everything we wanted to see. Our host could not have been more helpful, extremely responsive and full of information of things for us to see and places to go. Had a wonderful time at the French Quarter, the WWII museum, the Carousel bar and listening to all the street musicians. The food in NO is fabulous also! If you have a car, would definitely also recommend a drive out to see a few plantations, highly recommend the Laura plantation.

Everything you need for a great trip and more!

  • 5 of 5

Just stayed in this adorable house with two girlfriends of mine and it was totally perfect for our girls trip to NOLA. First off, the photos here don't do it justice (even though they are great). The charm and coziness of the place is extremely welcoming and a wonderful place to call "home" after going out and exploring the city. The decor and furniture are very thoughtful, artistic and comfortable. Amazing high ceilings and artwork throughout.

The location was awesome. Quiet street, felt very safe walking home at night. Close to all the fun stuff on Magazine street and easy enough to hop on a bus or street car to get over to the French Quarter. Great local coffee joint (HiVolt) is a few minutes away. The owner actually recommended that coffee place and a bunch of other really good suggestions. Super helpful and a great communicator the entire process. He sent us a huge pdf with info on everything nearby and stuff about the house, etc. Never had any unanswered questions or needed anything.

The bedrooms were comfortable. Very nice to have a bed for each of us (3 women) which is hard to find in an affordable rental house. Would also be a great fit for a family or two couples. LOVED the charming back patio area with fountain and table/chairs for drinking a glass of wine at the end of night or sipping your coffee in the morning. Would definitely stay here again in a heart beat!

Great House and Owner of a House That Captures The Charm And Color Of New Orleans

  • 5 of 5

Since we stayed at this house, we have been wanting to go back. The four of us, which included me, my wife, and another couple were here in the summer for a week. It has taken me forever to get around to this review, but, even though we have been very busy, I had to get back around to it, because, not only was the house wonderful, so was the owner. The house is in such a perfect location. It is a real neighborhood, not inundated with tourists, but it is still only a few blocks from many bustling areas. Consequently, you feel like you are a real native of New Orleans, but at the same time, can get out and have some touristy fun, shopping, eating, going to museums and music, and so forth. Easy to do all by foot, car, or whatever. The house itself is full of color and space, comfortable furniture, and some interesting antiques, but it is not overcrowded with stuff. Frankly, the pictures on the website tell the story, but the whole place is more spacious than the photos indicate. The porch is a great place to sit and watch the neighborhood come and go, and we even met a few people who were just walking by. We were very happy with the pricing as well. There would be no way to get room and space for 4 people like our group in a nice hotel without paying twice as much at least, plus, we like to cook. The kitchen here was well-equipped, so we were able to cook a couple of big meals, and eat in a proper dining room! Fantastic! By the same token, we also walked 6 blocks to one of the best restaurants in the city.

The information that we received about the house before our stay was more thorough than anything we have ever seen, and we have stayed in a lot of vacation houses. Also, the owner was very helpful when we had questions, as he was available at all times just by texting. We look forward to coming back, and are trying to do so this winter.

Pet friendly, but otherwise a little quirky. Needs help.

Overall, the property has been renovated to the level of rental standards. That is to say, not to the stand

Owner's Response: This Is A Good New Orleans Story... Well, I see that you did not finish your review, which is a little quirky, but the central part of this house is from 1820, the addition from 1889, it is full of Lane tables, my great-grandmother's Victorian desk, my mother's paintings from when she was a Beatnik in the French Quarter in the late 50's, paintings from my great uncle who was an art student at USC, a barrister bookcase full of wine books, a French Rigidex wine rack from the 1920's, a brand new Bosch dishwasher, a stainless steel french-door refrigerator, flat-screen TV, high-speed internet, brand new Sealy sleeper sofa in the second parlor and so on. Pretty good "rental standards", I should think! This is my family's second home, and it seems to be good enough for my wife, who has high standards (she is from Paris), and all the other guests who have loved it. At any rate, why did I not hear anything from you regarding a problem during your stay? You and I communicated via text to see that you got in alright on the day you arrived. YOU: "We are in and all is well." Later that evening, I sent some more information to you about the house, and you said your were taking a walk with your dog in the rain, that he was wearing his raincoat, and so on. Here is how that went. I sent you the info... YOU: "OK. Thanks. May have ?s tomorrow. Walking to Lily's for carryout. In the rain. Ollie brought his raincoat!!" ME: "I wish I could control the rain." YOU: "You're sweet. It wouldn't be NOLA without some rain." Still no mention of any problem with the house, that you were dissatisfied with anything, etc... The next evening, we were in touch again, when you sent me a text saying: YOU: "Did you forget to tell me that the house is haunted? Or am I receiving anonymous services? :)" Naturally, I was surprised and unsure of what you meant until you told me that the artificial candles had come on on their own. After a nice long exchange about the candles, and how I thought my cleaning woman might have gone in to turn them on, I remembered that the candles were on timers, and you were then disappointed when I told you that it was not ghosts, but that the candles are on timers. YOU: "The battery candles do have a timer feature. Darn." ME: "Bored and looking for ghosts! Only in New Orleans. I hope you are comfortable." YOU: "I am comfortable. Going out to dinner with son and his girlfriend." STILL no mention of any dissatisfaction. Quirky indeed!
