About Peter Clairmont
Hello. We are a family of 4 with 2 kids (now 12 and 10 yrs old). We live in Dover, NH, about 1 hr from our camp.
Peter Clairmont purchased this Cottage in 2009
Why Peter Clairmont chose Acton
When our kids were born, we started renting camps for our summer vacations. We liked lakes that were very clean, such that they contain lake trout and land-locked salmon for fishing, and good clean water for swimming. We rented on the NH side of Great East Lake from an old family friend, and we fell in love with the lake and started thinking about acquiring a camp as a centerpiece of family fun and a way to stay connected as our kids grow older. We were lucky to meet a family who had just upgraded to a newer home on the NH side, and were selling this camp on the Maine side. As soon as we saw it, we knew it was exactly what we were looking for... A place that is rustic, yet has all the modern conveniences, with great views and waterfront. An extra bonus for us is the location on the largest cove off the main lake body, where it is a bit more private/quiet/calm/relaxing.
What makes this Cottage unique
Situated on the largest cove off the main body of the lake, it is an ideal spot for a more private and quiet lakefront experience. You will regularly hear and see the loons. You can kayak or canoe for hours, exploring the smaller coves and channels on this end of the lake. Yet the cove is just big enough for motor water sports, and a short boat ride will take you to the main lake body for full access to all higher-speed water sports.

Rustic, comfortable, and peaceful getaway
Had a wonderful time with our 4 teens. Fishing, boating, walking, and sitting by the lakeside fireplace. Lazy mornings with coffee and a good book on the screened porch facing the lake and late nights playing board games in the large family room.
Wonderful vacation home surrounded by beautiful scenery
I am not even sure where to start my review. We returned home from this rental just yesterday. I have stayed in many rental homes with my family and this was one of my favorites for sure. Peter and Kim made sure that everything was all set for us when we arrived, although they were unable to meet us there. Peter touched base on our first full day to make sure all was well. This home is simple and beautiful. We really enjoyed the setup of the living room and the screened porch, our 3 and 8 year old daughters spent hours on end playing here. There is a nice collection of games and we liked that they were different from ones we have at home. We ate most meals in to save some money and the kitchen had everything we needed. We ate down on the picnic table, and on the screened porch for the most part. We spent our days lounging down by the water. It was warm and very clean for a lake. The kids loved swimming out to the little island and walking around it. This lake is so calm and beautiful in this spot. My oldest daughter and I must have jumped off the end of the dock 100+ times, I felt like a kid again!! One night we were lucky enough to see an amazing heat lightning storm and another night we got to watch an amazing firework display over the lake. The kayaks are amazing. I was the first one to wake every morning and enjoyed my peaceful time in the kayak on the lake daily! We saw and heard loons, which our family goes crazy over. Most days we also drove to the ocean to explore. We visited Drakes Island Beach 3x (highly recommend!) and Long Sands Beach. We went to see the Bush Compound, Perkins Cove, and Nubble Lighthouse. We shopped in Portsmouth, Ogunquit, and Kennebunkport. But each day coming back to the peace of the cottage after the busy touristy areas was so nice. It was definitely a drive to go anywhere, but we were aware of this and prepared for it. Just plan ahead and get what you need while out, there is no real "running" to the store. Thank you Peter and Kim for a truly amazing and unforgettable vacation. We hope to be able to visit again!
If you want quiet, serene, rustic lake front this is the place. The views of the lake, especially first thing in the morning, are breathtaking. The lake house a little to rustic for me, but if you want seclusion definitely the place!
Can't wait to come back next year!
We had an awesome week on Great East Lake. The house was exactly what we needed; clean, well equipped and comfortable. The screened in porch was by far our favorite spot. The lake was beautiful, the water clean and refreshing. The access to kayaks was great, we spent hours exploring the nooks and crannies of the lake. Will be back for sure.
Great family vacation
We had the pleasure of spending two weeks at Great East Lake and we enjoyed the camp very much. The camp is very well equipped with everything needed and the view of the lake is beautiful. The multiple decks, docks, chairs and fire pit were all great. We spent many hours in the enclosed porch and it was fantastic the few times we had rain showers. All the furniture at the camp is comfortable. The lake is beautiful and we spent lots of hours on the lake fishing, swimming and exploring. We will definitely be back soon for another relaxing vacation!
