About the property

3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 6

This is a custom home situated on an acre of sunny, private land. The 180 degree views from the deck (and most rooms) are of mountains and the ocean. You can see the small town of Crofton and the Vesuvius-Crofton ferry. The house has three half levels and seems to cascade down the hillside. The master bedroom has a king-size bed and an en-suite with a shower. The second bedroom has a queen size bed and the third bedroom has a single bed with a sleeping loft and a double mattress.

Also on the upper level is the main bathroom that has a soaker tub under a skylight as the focal point. On the mid level there is a small side deck with a gas BBQ, the kitchen, dining room and separate laundry/utility room. There are two large skylights that provide ample light on this level. The living room has a full wall of windows and french doors onto the large scenic patio. There is a cozy fireplace, large screen TV and wifi.

A completely separate self-contained owner's suite on the first, lowest level of the house.

About Owner/Manager

I have been a Salt Springer for more than 25 years, and an electrician here for most of those. The wind calls me. Originally a windsurfer, I switched to kitesurfing quite a few years ago. Rhonda and I spend as much of our downtime as possible where there is sun, wind and water. We enjoy being able to share this house with others wanting to explore Salt Spring Island. It is rewarding to meet the guests from near and far, and to hear that the house enables them to relax and soak in the goodness of the sunny view on this unique southern gulf island.

Owner/Manager purchased this house in 2009

Why Owner/Manager chose Southern Gulf Islands

Over the years, I have lived a few different places on the island, including a neighboring house near this one. As an electrician I have had opportunity to see many beautiful homes and locations on the island. The view here, in particular, along with how much sun this location gets is what attracted me. So in 2009, when this house came available, I was excited to get it. The house has a unique style and a layout which maximizes exposure to the view and the sun. It also has a private lower suite which we reside in while the main portion of the house is occupied by guests.

What makes this house unique

This house was designed to maximize the view of the ocean along with being surrounded by quiet and nature in one of the few year-round sunny locations on Salt Spring Island.

I simply cannot say enough about this amazing house. Such a beautifully built home, exceptionally clean and well equipped with a gorgeous view from the deck. Rhonda was friendly and gracious. The beds were so comfy and the layout was perfect for our party of 5, including my 85 year old mother in law and 10 year old son. I can’t recommend this house more highly and we will definitely be back!!!

SSI Get Away

  • 4 of 5

A group of old friends converged on this lovely home for a week-end in early June (2018). With two bathrooms and three bedrooms, there was room for all. Of note: the two end bedrooms (one w/ensuite) are suitable for adults and the smaller middle room w/loft is well-suited for kids/youth. Essentially a three-level split (bedrooms & bathrooms on one level; dining, kitchen & laundry on one level; and the living room w/deck access on another), the home has a wonderful deck that offers great views and plenty of access to the sun. The home was very well equipped with a good supply of towels, kitchen implements, a number of condiments, a BBQ, Adirondack chairs and patio set on the deck, kindling & wood and even some laundry soap. Bright and airy, there were many access points to the lovely yard (we counted a total of five doors) where an array of perennial plants were in bloom. Hosts, Rhonda and Brad (who live in the lower level) were un-intrusive and left a card with wine, cheese, and crackers as a lovely and warm welcome. The home is nicely situated between Vesuvius and Ganges - arguably the best climate on SSI. Recommend? Most definitely.

Beautiful unique house, very clean, amazing view

  • 5 of 5

A group of 6 of us stayed in this house for a weekend in June. The house is very beautiful, with a unique design. Big spacious living room and kitchen, perfect for a small group of people to spend time together, but have their own space too. The area is incredibly quiet, and has an amazing ocean view! While staying in this house my friends and I were already talking about a future trip here!

Well worth it!

  • 5 of 5

The house was bigger than expected with new excellent beds, altogether very comfy for 4 adults. There's a nice view of the ocean, eagles overhead and deer that wander through. Brad and Rhonda made us very welcome. Luckily the weather was spectacular. It is very hilly, so biking was possible only for the very fittest. Salt Spring is one of the larger Gulf islands and has a lot to offer--so it was a wonderful week with lots to see and do. We'd happily return.

Clean. Well equipped. Beautiful view. Attentive hosts.

  • 5 of 5

We were a party of 4 adults sharing this home. The layout is terrific. Bedrooms and bathrooms on the uppermost level. Dining/kitchen/laundry on the next level down. Great room/fireplace on the lower deck level. We had lots of room and didn't feel like we were living on top of one another. There is ample parking. Brad and Rhonda left lots of wood for the fireplace and the kitchen/laundry was stocked with items to carry us through until a grocery shop could be done. The view is stunning - west over to Vancouver Island. The deck is large enough to enjoy dinner al fresco.

We had a small medical emergency during our stay and our hosts were very solicitous and helpful. They live in the basement level of the home so were close by if we needed anything.

I would definitely recommend a stay here and am looking forward to coming back soon.
