Our condo is a three bedroom, three bathroom luxury penthouse in the prestigious Mountain Thunder Lodge retreat, situated in a beautiful wooded area in the heart of historic Breckenridge with the convenience of ski-in access from the Four O'Clock ski run and opposite the gondola. With only a two minute walk to all that Main Street has to offer, this property is in the perfect location.

A stylish stone and timber design, the condo is luxuriously appointed following a full remodel. The spacious family room sports views of Breckenridge ski area and the Ten Mile Range, a moss rock fireplace and leather furniture. The full gourmet kitchen boasts stainless steel appliances with granite countertops for the times you want to prepare a home-cooked meal, and the dining table seats six. In the summer months you can relax in comfortable lounge chairs looking out over the mountain view on the West-facing deck.

There are two large master bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms both with soaking tubs/showers, and a third bedroom with its own separate bathroom with walk-in shower. All rooms have large flat panel TVs for those nights in or lazy mornings, and the condo has high speed wireless internet. You will also have your own Private Ski Locker on the first floor of the building to dry out your skis, boards and boots before hitting the slopes again the next day. The condo has it's own washer/dryer and should you bring a car, it will be safely under cover in the complimentary heated parking garage. The parking garage also has a bicycle rack where you can lock-up your bikes. And for the little ones we have a Pack N' Play so you don't need to bring one.

As a guest at Mountain Thunder Lodge you can take the Complimentary Private Shuttle to and from anywhere on Main Street and the lifts – just call and pre-arrange pickup times with your driver. You also have the benefit of state of the art exercise facilities, a heated outdoor swimming pool and five outdoor hot tubs throughout the retreat; perfect for relaxing after a long day of fun activities. You also enjoy privileges at One Ski Hill place at the base of the Peak 8 ski area, including bowling, an indoor pool, billiard table and a private media room where you can book in advance to reserve your movie night or play video games (games console not provided).

Winter Season Activities

During the ski season you have the Breckenridge ski area on your doorstep, along with a host of cross-country and snowshoe trails. You can experience dog sledding rushing through snowy woods on a sled pulled by a team of huskies, or ice skating at the ice rink five minutes away. Then there is sledding at Carter Park or, if you want to step it up a notch, try tubing at the Frisco Adventure Park or snowmobiling in the back country.

Summer Activities

In the non-winter months, the Breckenridge area boasts a world-class trail system which will keep even the most avid mountain biker or hiker happy. For the more serious hikers, our own fourteener, Quandary Peak, is only a 20 minute drive to the trailhead. The 27-hole Jack Nicklaus-designed Breckenridge Golf Course is only a few minutes away and four additional courses are within 30 minutes, and if you like to fish Breckenridge is home to world-class fly fishing on the Blue River, a crystal clear mountain stream, or you can fish on nearby Lake Dillon. On Lake Dillon you can also sail, kayak, windsurf, paddleboard or even take your friends and family on a pontoon boat for a leisurely cruise around the lake.

Year-round Activities

At any time of year you can see a show at the award-winning Lake Dillon Theater, a professional SAG theater, or the Breckenridge community theater. In nearby Silverthorne you have a full multiplex cinema showing the latest movies and an outlet mall for the shoppers among you. For the culturally minded, you can visit the Barney Ford Museum or take an historic tour of the town which showcases its rich mining history. To unwind after a day of activity, or to just plain pamper yourself, Breckenridge offers a wide variety of spa services from the basic massage to stone therapy and aromatherapy.

We looked at many properties in Breckenridge and this one stood out by a mile in terms of its perfect location in town and being on the Four O'Clock ski run, exceptionally high level of interior finish and décor, the penthouse giving it the benefit of wonderfully high ceilings (which are hard to come by in a condo) and then all the amenities of the prestigious Mountain Thunder Lodge. The resort feels more like a luxury hotel than privately owned condos, with the heated pool, hot tubs, full fitness center and the convenience of the private shuttle service. Also, we (and you if you stay at our condo!) have the benefit of guest privileges at the luxurious One Ski Hill Place, which includes the use of their aquatic center, bowling alley and private screening room – a really nice extra.

Our condo has some unique touches that we love and we're sure you will too. The decor in the condo is of the highest quality and finish: full gourmet kitchen, leather suite with recliner, authentic moss rock fireplace, extended height penthouse ceilings, a West-facing deck which catches the rays all afternoon. Great place, beautiful location!

We were fortunate to get to stay here after a mix up in our original plans. Simon was very gracious, the condo was in excellent condition, and the location was perfect. We're so thankful that it all worked out and would stay here again for sure!

family vacation

The condo was very spacious, very clean, had all the amenities you could ask for. Once we arrived, we rarely moved our car, we could easily walk to town in just about 5 minutes, that was extremely convenient for us. The pool, the grounds and all the surroundings were beautiful!! Very nice vacation!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind review. Many of our guests also say they barely used their car when staying at the condo, which is nice since parking in town can be a pain at times. The location of the condo helps this, as well as the private shuttle which picks you up and drops you off all over town and up to the mountain. I hope you get to stay again at the condo.

Best place to stay in Breckenridge

We just spent a week in this condo and loved every minute of it. The unit was clean and well kept and the location is amazing. You can either walk into town, get on the bike path to Frisco or head up the gondola. Once you park in teh garage you never need your car again. In addition to the location and the nice unit, the pool and hot tub were a huge hit with our 5year old son.

Not a Luxury Penthouse!

The trip began with assurances three key cards would be at the front desk, but when we arrived the attendant had no keys and no information on the unit -- other than to say they did not manage it. I called the property's contact, who after a while convinced the guy to make some keys for us -- after nearly 30 minutes. The property is advertised as a luxury penthouse, but it is a very basic, fairly small apartment with cheap furniture. Although the place was clean, the bed sheets and pillows were Econo Lodge quality, and everything Kirkland. It was not convenient to the gondola making getting out on the mountain more difficult, but it was an easy walk into town.

Owner's Response: I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy our condo. With respect to access to the property, you booked two days before your stay so I didn’t have time to mail you the access keycards, as I normally would, and I called the Mountain Thunder front desk and asked them to put three keycards aside for you. However, I also forewarned you in my e-mail that “they are not particularly efficient and it would not surprise me if someone else is working the desk when you arrive and they have no recollection of it. If that happens, please call me immediately on XXX-XXX-XXXX and I'll speak to the front desk and have them make the keycards for you right then and there.” As I feared, the front desk didn’t have your keycards but I had them make you some as soon as you called me. While the words “luxury” and “small” are rather subjective, I quote the floor space of the condo in my VRBO listing (being 1,438 sq. ft) and I think you will struggle to find a more luxurious, better kept condo in Breckenridge, certainly for the rates we charge. Our furniture is a mix of American Furniture Warehouse and professional rental-grade items, all of which is solid wood (with the exception of the dining table set for which we had limited choice because we needed it to fold up). I don’t know what the Econo Lodge uses for bed linens, but ours are all 400 count Egyptian cotton which, to date, our guests and family have been very happy with. We provide shampoo, conditioner and shower gel in all the bathrooms and have found that Kirkland offers the best quality in larger quantities – my wife has long hair so she’s somewhat of an expert in hair products and uses these at home. You’re right that the condo is very well situated for walking into town and I pinpoint the exact location of the property on the VRBO map on my listing which clearly shows the distance to the gondola – Mountain Thunder Lodge is actually the closest resort to the town gondola, but most of our guests choose to catch the complimentary private shuttle either over the road to the gondola or up to the ski slopes direct. I’m sorry that you felt compelled to leave a two-star review as that indicates you didn’t enjoy the condo as much as we do and as much as our previous guests have (a number of whom are repeat guests). Finally, I think you’ll have to agree that there must be a reason for our having over 50 five-star reviews!
