Why Alexandre Maso chose Old Town
The property has historical value to the city. The property passed down through generations. The location is delightful and special.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Great for families.
Lovely, helpful host, great location!! Beautiful Girona!
Thank you. We hope to see you soon again!
Great location, beautiful fully equipped apartment and fabulous owners.
Alexandre and Nuria are the best! This apartment is located in a nice spot up on the hill so it catches the evening breeze. There is a great terrasse attached to the apartment and it also has great AC if the breezes are too warm. The apartment is well appointed with laundry, full modern kitchen and three nice bedrooms. It even has secured parking close by as well as a closed garage for bikes in the basement of the building (for their use only).
From this spot there is easy access to the old town of Girona. There are cafes close by and the owners' son has one of the best restaurants in town located just a short walk away in the old town. Their lobster paella and calamari are not to be missed. Alexandre and Nuria also offer local tours. They are very interesting and very reasonably priced.
Overall, we had a fantastic stay at this property. We would definitely return and we would highly recommend it.
Dan and Giselle.
Everything we expected
We stayed in the Athenou Apartments with my wife and two teenage sons in June 2016. The apartment is in a great location, overlooking the city and old town, with a balcony right up against the city walls! Everything about the apartment was great - Alexandre and Nuria were fantastic hosts and gave us great info about Girona, where to eat, how to get around, what to see, etc. The kitchen is stocked with the essentials like spices, oil, etc, and also has a Nespresso espresso machine, although I highly recommend walking 100m down the steps into town and getting coffee and breakfast at La Fabrica. The internet was super fast, which made our sons happy. Even the TV had high-quality HD channels and some English stations, which was also unexpected. The air conditioning in the main living room worked great as it was starting to get hot in Girona during our stay. Unfortunately we didn't discover the AC remote for the bedrooms until we were leaving, so make sure to ask for those when you check in. You do have to climb three or four flights of stairs to get to the unit, but that didn't bother us as it was good exercise and gave us an excuse to eat more gelato! Also, I wasn't brave enough to drive our rental car into the old town so we parked just outside the wall and carried (rolled) our luggage along the narrow streets to the apartment a couple of blocks away. It wasn't too much of an inconvenience (save for some whining from the kids), but if you are adventurous and have a small car you could probably drive your car close to the unit to drop off your luggage.
Overall, a really great apartment - we would definitely stay there again if (when) we come back to Girona.
Thank you Jeff, we hope to see you again.
Well appointed apartment
The apartment is lovely...we had problems finding it..the street does not show up on a GPS and it is very difficult to drive and find.
We stayed on the fifth floor...no elevator so the lovely host firstly had to come and find us in the downtown and help three women carry their luggage up to the room. Once there, it is lovely with a great little patio below the wall.
Be prepared to walk allot of stairs to get to the place, although their is a city lift that goes until 8 pm.
The owner does tours and also dropped us off at the train station (taking our luggage part way down).
Quaint, clean and comfortable.
Thank you, Jane. You're very nice.
Just a precision: it's a third floor.
Lovely apartment, lovely owner
I stayed at this apartment with my mother and sister on a family trip to Spain. I wish we had more time to spend there, but in the short time we had, it was a beautiful and comfortable as expected by viewing the listing. The outside patio is enclosed by the Roman wall that encloses part of the city. Alexandre was a great host and very proud of his city and gave great tips. He was also very gracious and generous. It was easy to walk everywhere we wanted to go. I would stay here again if I am ever in Girona.
Great apartment, friendly owner - make sure you understand the location!
Alexandre was extremely helpful and friendly. We got lost trying to navigate to the place with our rental car. He met us at a main square and guided us up. If you have a car, beware that the streets are VERY narrow and it is quite difficult to get to the apartment with a car (we had a SEAT LEON, anything bigger would not have made it). Also the private garage that Alexandre offers is a very tight squeeze, although it gets easier with some practice.
The apartment is high up on the hill in the historic district of Girona, adjacent to the ancient town wall. The view is good but it's a lot of stairs to climb, both in getting to the building from the main streets below, and getting up to the apartment from the ground floor. Their logo shows a stick figure huffing and puffing up the stairs - it's accurate!
Alexandre gave us many useful suggestions for restaurants, places to visit, and driving directions. We liked Girona itself and as a base for day trips to Figueres, Cadaques, and other scenic places. The apartment had good air conditioning in all the rooms, and that was necessary. We were glad to have the washing machine (drying is on a line outside, so leave enough time for that). It was very quiet and the beds were comfortable. It has a little patio outside that is nice for viewing the city below and enjoying a drink after a hot day of sightseeing.
I would recommend it and would stay there again but if I did I would probably park my car in a public parking lot rather than Alexandre's space. I think you do need a car in that area because you want to be able to do day trips and you probably want to have some other town besides Girona on your itinerary if your trip is longer than a few days.
Girona is an interesting city, with good cuisine, cultural events and unique architecture:
• old quarter and Jewish quarter.
• many museums and the cathedral
• live music, cinema, theater, film festivals
• beautiful shops
• olympic swimming pools
• segway tours
We highly recommend:
• “girona temps de flors”. This year will take place in may from 11th to 19th . It’s an exhibition of flowers that multiplies the beauty of the city. You have the opportunity to visit the private patios of the manor houses in the old town that are closed the rest of the year.
• casa museu masó (house museum masó). Rafel masó is the representative architect of the noucentisme (a catalan cultural movement of the early 20th century) in girona. You can visit his family house in the center of the old town. If you stay in athenou apartments for minimum one week, the owner will give you two tickets for visit this museum, because he's very proud of his grandfather,
Àrea, the province
The province has everything you could ask for. The area is a cycling mecca. Over 80 professional cyclists from around the world live and train in girona much of the year.
You can find:
• hiking & walking
• excellent michelin rated restaurants
• pga golf
• horseback riding
We highly recommend:
• dalí museum in figueres
• the village of the Mediterranean inspiration, cadaqués
