About Mary Kraft
Settlers Mountain was created to share the wonderful Great Smoky Mountains with friends and family. What started as a personal retreat turned into a family enterprise. Bert and Mildred Kraft loved the mountains and its local people so they settled in Bryson City and built Settlers Mountain (circa 1959). Bert, being a very industrious person with the love of architecture, built the homes on the mountain and refurbished a hand-hewn chestnut log cabin built in the 1840's, one of only five left in the area. Settlers Mountain is owned and operated by the Kraft Family and is enjoyed by five generations of Kraft’s. We welcome you to make Settlers Mountain your retreat and create a lifetime of memories.
Mary Kraft purchased this House in 1959
Why Mary Kraft chose Bryson City
This property has 200 acres and yet near to town on paved roads. Very well maintained grounds that is wooded and quiet, close to all the action the area has to offer or just sit back and relax.

perfect girl getaway
I really want to give 5 stars because everything was PERFECT except for the twin beds which have very thin mattresses. The place was extremely clean, had all the needed items in the kitchen - even a blender! The appliances worked without issues and it was a gorgeous setting!!! We truly enjoyed the porch and sat out there day and night laughing together!
I believe you are referring to the roll away twin bed you where using. I agree those are not the best. The pinery now has an additional sofa bed downstairs that would be much improved. Thanks for the information and the nice review.
Great Location and Staff was wonderful
We had the best welcome from the staff and our cabin was extremely clean. Everything worked well and there were materials for a fire. It was just cold enough to enjoy one every day we were there. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5, was the decor was a little dated. However, it was a beautiful location and a short drive to Cherokee and Bryson City.
Thanks for the review. We have updated the cabin with new bathroom downstairs, new furniture, with new appliances in kitchen. Check out the pictures on the site
Polar express trip and this was a perfect location. We went with our daughter and her husband and 3 children. The House was a perfect size and layout suited our needs. House was clean and well prepared-there was even wood stacked at the fireplace for a warm cozy fire. The only commment I have is that we could find no kitchen towels so if you are a kitchen towel person like me then I would advise bringing with you. Otherwise we ave everything we needed.
We provide kitchen towels for all our cabins. I am so sorry that you did not have any for your stay.
Great stay, met or exceeded expectations
Great cabin in the woods with fireplace for those cold nights. Had everything we needed and we enjoyed it. Coming back. Walt
We rented 4 houses on this property. It was a delightful weekend and we would love to return at a future date. Ms. Kraft was very accommodating and we could not have had a better weekend anywhere.
Thanks Virginia, you all were great to have on the mountain. So glad your stay was enjoyable. We would love to have you return. Our best to the newlyweds.
Guys rafting trip
Perfect Getaway. We had five big guys in town for a rafting trip and had plenty of room. We overpacked our kitchen supplies and ended up not using them as we found the kitchen well stocked. The entire property is very well maintained and the roads up to the cabin were a breeze. Karen and Rich are the nicest folks and will take the time to answer any of your questions. The location is a very short ride to NOC and 3.4 miles from town. Definitely going back to this location.
So glad to hear you had a awesome time and we were well stocked for you. Our location is well liked too with the easy access in and out. It will be a fine day when you return.
The Pinery is located approximately 25 minutes from the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountain Nat'l Park on the North Carolina side.
