About David

We have been residents of Hawaii since before statehood. Or family of four grew up spending time in Malaekahana to escape the hustle and bustle of Honolulu and enjoy the beauty of Malaekahana bay and the activities on the North shore. We recently moved to the mainland to be closer to family.

Why David chose North Shore Oahu

Our comfortable home is located on a very quiet, sandy beach, with warm water, gentle currents and the tradewinds Hawaii is famous for. It is a perfect location for families, friends, couples, and anyone looking to kick back and enjoy time together.

What makes this house unique

Located on a white sandy beach, with warm water and gentle currents

Guestbook comments from the owner

David's house was perfect. The house is spacious, clean and had everything we needed on hand. We had prebooked for Kayaks, paddle boards, surf boards and snorkeling gear to be delivered right to our house. The sandy bottom beach in front was perfect to for swimming, kayaking and paddle boarding each day. There's a surf break to the left of the house that gives perfect waves all day. I recommend watching the sunrise each morning from any of the bedrooms. It is spectacular. We loved the location. Quiet yet close to hidden beaches, restaurants and groceries. We will return.

Incredible Beachfront Property- Pure Paradise on the North Shore!

  • 5 of 5

This house is a dream! Situated on the most beautiful beach on the North Shore, you can surf, paddleboard, boogie board and swim right in front of the house! We saw multiple turtles when paddleboarding which was fun. We stayed here on our honeymoon two and a half years ago, and just HAD to come back. The caretaker Ernie is so friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable of the area (he's lived on Oahu his whole life!) and we fell in love with his dogs, Kui & Kahu. We went for a run or walk on the beach each morning- it's a little over 2 mile stretch of beach, and the sand is so soft. We'd come back to the house for breakfast and make smoothies or pancakes every morning, the kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need. We grilled most nights too- the local food (even from the nearby grocer, Tamura's) is so fresh and delicious. The outdoor shower was awesome. We only used the master bedroom (bed is so comfortable and you hear the waves crashing all night, so relaxing) but you could sleep up to 8 people in the house. Having a washer/dryer made things easy. The house has beach chairs, towels, toys, boogie boards, snorkel gear, etc. all for you to use, which is awesome. A local surf company to delivers surf boards and paddle boards that you can rent for your time here. We hired a massage therapist to come bring a table and we had massages outside with an ocean view- highly recommended! The house is close to tons of great food options for eating out... yummy food trucks, fruit stands, turtle bay, Haleiwa, etc. Some of our Hawaii favorites are Fumi's shrimp farm, Bonzai Bowls (Acai Bowls), Shave Ice from Matsumoto's in Haleiwa, and Guadalajara Grill in Laie for the best Mexican we've ever had. Also Angel's ice cream shop is only 3 mins from the house next to Foodland- dangerous for a sweet tooth like me! We can't say enough good things about this house and this special place. It's magical.

The Malaekahana house was clean, comfortable, and freshly decorated with traditional Hawaiian décor. I found everything I needed whether in the kitchen, bathrooms or relaxing on the beach. The tranquil beach, was a perfect way to begin each day with a walk to the point while enjoying a cup of coffee or finding beach glass. It was also great for a short dip in the ocean. I would definitely return to Malaekahana as many times as time would allow. Thank you for a wonderful vacation.

Owner's Response: I am so glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you for your kind words. We just finished re-decorating the house, including new living room furniture and all new bedding and towels. Your timing was perfect! Glad you found it comfortable. I love that morning walk to the point, looking for beach glass, finding sea shells and on those very lucky days, finding glass balls that have broken free of Japanese fishin nets and floated across the Pacific.

We would have liked to have medium saucepan and griddle. We didn't find any wash rags.

We loved the location of the property. We have 3 grandchildren 6, 7,and 17 and loved getting in the water. It was awesome to have a sandy beach.

Owner's Response: I'm so glad you and your family enjoyed our beach house. It's unusual to find white, sandy beaches with no rocks or coral on a protected bat in Hawaii. We are so fortunate to have it right out our back door. There should be a set of small, medium, large and extra large sauce pans in the kitchen. I'll ask our property manager to check and replace if she can't find it. A griddle is a good idea. Thanks for the suggestion. Regarding wash rags, we replaced all of the linens, towels and beach towels in the house this week. Unfortunately it was the week after you left. Sorry about that! All the best, David

Fun in the sun

  • 5 of 5

Our family just returned from a magical week in Hawaii. Gentle trade winds whispering through the trees, waves rushing lazily up the shore, the warm, inviting ocean just steps from our back door, and miles of sandy white beach made this the vacation of a lifetime. The house is comfortably furnished in a simple, beachy style with plenty of room for everyone. We especially enjoyed hanging out on the lounges on the large, covered outdoor porch. An unexpected treat was the private, outdoor shower. Our kids enjoyed inventing their own rules playing bocce ball and croquet on the large lawn that slopes down to the beach. For me it was reading a book in the shade of the trees on the private beach. The owner was very helpful with suggestions of activities for our active family. We spent a morning deep sea fishing out of Haleiwa harbor and another afternoon hiking and zip lining in the mountains and forest behind the property. The house is very close to the BYU Hawaii campus and the Polynesian Cultural Center, both of which we visited and would highly recommend. The only thing I would change about this vacation us to stay two weeks instead of just one.

Like a second home!

  • 5 of 5

We staid at this beautiful property for one week end of April and beginning of May. We really enjoyed the stay and felt like at home. Espacially our Caretaker Ernie and his Dogs Kui and Kahu became real friends.

It is a place to relax and to come down after a stressfull time in Job or at home. After waking up a beautiful view out of the window, a walk down to the beach with the coffee and after workout in the garden a swim in the ocean and an extensive breakfast. Absolutely recommendable for holidays!!

We also would recommend a rent car. Without car it would be difficult to manage Shopping, trips, etc.

There are so many things to do:

At first just beach walks up and down the "house beach". Of Course Swimming and Surfing in the ocean. Each beach, beachpark or bay is different to the other one, so we just drove to other beaches and enjoyed the stay at a different place: Recommendable are Laniakea Beach u Turtle Beach, Kailua Bay u Lanikai Beach and of Course Waikiki Beach.

Always watch out for animals: We've seen turtles and seals just lay down the beach which have been sleeping there for hours :-)

If you are interested in history it is a must to visit Pearl Habour and the sites there.

We would also recommend to hike in the mountains. All the plants are so different to those in Europe and the landscape is amazing: For example Moanalua Valley or Nuuanu Pali Lookout down the old Pali road.

All in all a place to be!!

Excellent location in homely atmosphere

  • 4 of 5

Our party of eight thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location allows great walks on the beach, easy access to places of interest, food shopping which enabled us to eat at home more often, we used the bbq and were able to call Malaekahana home for the week.

Our GPS was accurate in getting us to the location along with instructions forwarded by owner. Pole 35 was an indicator but a little difficult to see at night so maybe could do with a new paint job!

Turtle Bay Resort had a public swimming bay and was ideal for snorkeling and no rough wave swimming for children and 'older' people and not far to drive to either. A day at Pearl Harbor was within the hour driving to and from; two afternoon / evenings at Polynesian Cultural Center were perfect; and Waimea Bay/Waterfall and gardens were also close by and well worth the visit. Another day driving down the east coast around to Diamond Head and back through the tunnels and mountains; and our last day up the west coast relaxing at the beaches.

What a holiday and how lovely to come home each night to Malaekahana!

Thank you from all of us.
