Things OK On Edge of Marais
Overall it was not on my top 5 (or 10) vacation properties
It does have a lot of other positive reviews although to me I found the apartment pretty small for two adults and a teenager. Basically once the pullout is out there is almost no space to walk and the kitchen is tiny and a closed space. Having the toilet separate from the shower and sink would not be my first choice. The bedroom is nice enough and has an old world charm although I found the bed on the hard side. Also the internet was not strong enough to work well from the bedroom so everyone was in the living room and night - where there was little space. I suppose you could fold up the couch each day.
The apartment was very clean and the woman that let us in was quite friendly and my daughter had a chance to use her French.
As far as location, yes it is very central although to me this is not the most vibrant part of the Marais. Mainly it is just chain boutique stores on the street but that may just be the way this area is changing. The cost was on the pricey side although it did include air conditioning. The owner was responsive when there was water dripping onto the stairs and fixed that quickly. Overall it was fine although we stayed in London and throughout Ireland and rated our other accommodations higher.
Great central apartment
We stayed 5 days. Blanca gave us a good orientation. There are many eating opportunites and grocery stores in this lively area, but at night it's all quiet. That's perfect!
Plenty of bathroom and bedroom storage, which is unusual in Paris. Also, there is a real bedroom, with a door that closes. Good shower. Air conditioning worked. My husband enjoyed the artwork, and I liked the wooden antiques throughout. Internet worked only in the main living area, and not at all in the bedroom. We were able to use the washer-dryer, although the instructions must have been for an older machine.
This is the smallest kitchen we ever had, but all basics are there, including coffee makers, microwave and stove. A suggestion: watch out when you open the fridge door, because until we got used to the tiny space, we kept whacking our feet and pinching our toes under the door.
My husband was extremely impressed with the apartment's organization, attention to detail, and the owner's book, which was extraordinarily helpful. Also, we did use the free phone to contact our airline, when flights were being cancelled.
Great location- property NOT for a family!
Pros: amazing location, responsive host, beautiful decoration, well-appointed kitchen. Serious cons: our 8 and 10 year old children fell down the steep, narrow, winding stairs several times. The check in cleaner only spoke Spanish so much information was missed, the bed in the master was hard as the floor and my husband likes firm beds but we slept terribly. No luggage rack or place to store cases. No instructions on washing machine which is so sensitive we kept turning it on every time we used the bathroom! It would be fine for a young couple with the caveats above. We were excited to try Home Away but will stick to hotels.
Thanks for the review, I'm sad to hear that you didn't fully enjoy my apartment.
When a guest requests, as you did, an early check-in I do my best to make it possible. On rare occasions I cannot be there myself for the early check-ins, so to fulfil the wish of the guest I ask the cleaning lady to let the guests in. Anyhow all instructions are provided in English in the FAQ manual I have prepared and for which I have been praised for. I don't understand how the washing machine could start and stop whenever you enter into the bathroom. There is an on/off button on the front display you need to touch to start and stop the washing machine and the door must be closed for the machine to start.
Concerning the stairs, I have never had anyone falling in the stairs before and I have a lot of guests between 50 and 70. I guess that your kids must have been playing unattended in the stairs when this happened and that is not under my control.
Concerning the beds, most guests give very good reviews of the bed. Unfortunately, no bed can fit all preferences. Some guests prefer firmer and some prefer softer.
Concerning the luggage rack, you have several drawers and wardrobes at your disposal. Please remember that this is my apartment and not a hotel and I don't want it (as most guests) to look like an hotel, I want it to feel like home. Judging your comments, I think you're really better off in an hotel.
I have an average of 4.9 out of 5 in our ratings so my guests are very satisfied.
We loved this apartment!
When we started looking for lodging for our week in Paris, we made a list of “must haves”—safe and interesting neighborhood, quiet at night, easy access to public transportation, kitchen, washer and dryer, great reviews, super host. This apartment appeared to have everything we were looking for. We were not disappointed! The neighborhood is charming—lots of stores and places to eat and close to la Place des Vosges. We never felt unsafe. Although the apartment is on a busy (one lane) street, the apartment is amazingly quiet. The bedroom is in the back of the apartment, away from the street. It was quieter than our bedroom at home. Two metro stops and several bus lines are within 5-10 minutes by walking. The kitchen (actually, the whole apartment) is very well equipped. We ate breakfast and dinner in the apartment every day and had everything we needed to prepare meals. We really appreciated the washer and dryer since we traveled to the south of France from Paris, and it was great to be able to do so with clean clothes. There is a reason this place is so highly rated and that Jonas (and his family) is a super host. Jonas responded quickly to my emails when I inquired about the apartment prior to booking it; he met us at the he apartment when we arrived in Paris and showed us how everything worked (FYI—there is a very helpful booklet on the table that explains everything, but I did not discover it until the night before we left); we only had one question once we got settled in. I texted Jonas and he responded immediately. We loved this place. It truly felt like home for the week that we were there. As some other reviewers have mentioned, the narrow spiral stairs could be a bit challenging, especially for anyone with mobility issues or a lot of luggage. However, these two seventy-year-olds managed, and we would definitely stay here again if we came to Paris in the future.
Fabulous flat fabulous location
Loved the charm and the convenience.
Every thing good only the problem the stairs
The apartment is located in the heart of the Marais district, just steps away from the Place des Vosges, one of the most famous streets in this historic district of Paris with its luxury boutiques, antique shops, art galleries and museums
The location is unique and wonderful, close to shops and cultural sites (Musee Carnavalet, Picasso Museum, Place des Vosges, Ile Saint Louis, Notre Dame, Centre Georges Pompidou, Hotel de ville, La Bastille, etc.).
Located in a romantic neighborhood with a multicultural atmosphere and a great selection of restaurants, bistros and cafes.
In the heart of the capital, it is an ideal spot for a Paris visit and to explore the city and its surroundings!
